Efficient Frontier Portfolios for Android
Efficient Frontier gives you a tool for analyzing your investment portfolio to best match your tradeoff between higher return and lower risk. For both large and small portfolios of stocks and other securities, this app will guide you to the portfolio that suits you.
The app displays portfolios on the Markowitz efficient frontier in the risk-return space. You enter tickers for ETFs, stocks, bonds or futures or select stocks from the S&P500 index by industry and name. The app tells you the portfolios that offer you the minimum variance and the maximum risk-adjusted return along with 48 other intermediate portfolios.
Unlike other apps, Efficient Frontier has no restrictions on the number of positions to be analyzed. You can also control the portfolio makeup by limiting the allocations to be long-only or long-short or capped at a maximum or minimum allocation for each position.
To run successfully, this app needs files created by the Ticker Histories app. Once installed, you can run the Ticker Histories app from within the Efficient Frontier app.
I think that the efficient frontier graph may have some teething problems as most of the graph is in negative territory for the return and I know the instruments I entered were going to give a strong result. I expect that the minimum risk portfolio is the global minimum variance portfolio but I can't be sure. Given that we can input the risk free rate, can you draw the Capital Market Line to the optimal risky portfolio. Also will shorting be allowed? I do think that there are some bugs but there is good potential in the app so hopefully, it will get better over time.
Great app
