I'll have to use the app during the ride to see if it is truly worthwhile. At the moment (two weeks before RAGBRAI) it appears to have some value, but I can already see some potential drawbacks. One is that it requires data access for much of the content and many of the features. Anyone who has been on the ride knows that the bandwidth and capacity intended to support the normal activities of rural and small-town Iowa are just not up to the loads experienced during RAGBRAI. Data is always the first thing to be throttled back (or even temporarily suspended); sometimes voice service is affected, and I've even seen occasions when texts took as long as 20 minutes to go through. As a result, I've also downloaded full PDF versions of the route maps that are complete unto themselves and don't require data access. I rode 26 RAGBRAIs without any kind of phone, smart or otherwise. Sometimes I long for those simpler days.

Generally seems like a good app. However, I was not able to access ANY information when I didn't have a data signal. Not only is that highly impractical for RAGBRAI, it's contrary to how the app is advertised to work.
