Microphones in most android devices are aligned to human voice. The maximum values are limited by the device. Very loud sounds(over ~90 dB) may not be recognized in most device. What are users saying about Sound Meter

Solid app, no iffy permissions, works out of the box and doesn't represent cellphones as being a reliable tool. It would be nice to have an alternate set of descriptive levels that reflect OSHA and other worker safety guidelines, which are reducing exposure times at increasing noise levels, described in OSHA 1910.95(b)(2)

N70%
by N####:

Very straightforward and quite accurate. Good enough for my industrial noise level evaluations and mitigation projects. At the end of the job we just verify the sound regime with an Industrial Hygienist. So far, no issues of note.

I was expecting ads with a free app, and while they're only slightly obtrusive, I found myself wanting for an ad-free paid version. The app itself works fine--I like the ability to switch between light and dark themes--although without a proper sound level reference, I'm not sure how accurate the results are. At the very least it's a good objective measure of relative sound levels. Any movement right near the microphone, or touching the phone itself, will throw off the results a bit.

It's brilliant. Helps on getting some close guidance of noise level but most important I do show it to my wife how much she shouts (Does work). Love it (I mean the app)

Ain't technology great (sometimes)? I do like this app. It helps me measure sound levels with some sort repeatability. Nutters in the flat under ours keep complaining about my bedside radio! So I have some sort independent verification. THANKS.

M70%
by M####:

Tried other free apps like this and they where pretty much a waste of time. Been trying to sound proof a room and showed a drop in levels. And helped to show where to place sound deading materials. So i would recommend this app. Its free and works. Ads are ads but not in the way and not a pain.

by K####:

Don't know how to calibrate or how it works, but is awesome anyway. But I'd like to see a setting time-lapse still going, even after screen lock. Barely 5 star.

This is really a useful app, and is designed to do what it's meant to do for a novice user. I truly wish that there had been smartphones with these apps back in the 1960's and 1970's, because I'll be 60 years old soon, & can't hear very well due to the times of that era, and would have loved to be able to see how bad I was damaging my hearing. Please read this young people, and believe what I'm trying to explain to you!!!

by N####:

Please put this on notification panel so I can know that someone is calling me from next room when I've headphones on or noise reduction earphones, it will be great if you guys can put it on the notification light, like if someone shouts the notification light turns red and I'll be alert. The would be really a great application of this app. This is why I gave it just 1 star so the developer reads it.

Tried to use it to keep track of my noisy neighbours. It thought them using a drill was quieter than my voice. Inaccurate through and through and a waste.

L70%
by L####:

I think the chop saw at work is quieter than the local 4th of July concert, and they need to wear earplugs. And yet this app only shows ~80dB at this concert.

N70%
by N####:

For a freebie, this is excellent, appears to perform consistently well. No ads to continually bug you and makes the point that cellphones are not the perfect machine for operating. Good, honest app!

N70%
by N####:

This is so far out it's ridiculous!! I just mixed a live band full noise and it said that it was around 82db???? My 'real' db meter read 107.... Rubbish.

N70%
by N####:

Works well, no messing around. Straightforward display, easy to use and feels like a good quality meter. Had no issues if it failing or sticking, no bugs as far as I could tell.

K70%
by K####:

I would like an extra option Blinking or sound alarm or vibration, when sound exceed the certain level, which is possible to set. That could be useful when we have discussion. It could alert when discussion exceed the certain level of sound and calm down a bit people.

N70%
by N####:

4-star because too much advertising within the app. You could either reduce the ad frequency, or remove them completely, if a user downloads your (the developer's) flashlight app; just an idea. I love the dark theme - thank you, making the elapsed time toggleable was a great idea, and the sound-level-comparisons are accurate and helpful. As long as there's an ad on the main app screen I will keep my one star.

N70%
by N####:

I use this excellent app to limit the volume of my TV etc; as my hearing is not what it used to be. Saves me from annoying the neighbours.

Z70%
by Z####:

Work at an airport, fun to see how loud the checkpoint gets with passengers and jets in combo. Why does the "never show me again" box pop up everytime I start the app?

D70%
by D####:

Excellent tool that can be cross- calibrated to laboratory instruments for accurate site tests. Weakness is data cannot be captured for export and evidence. Otherwise deserves 5 stars.

V70%
by V####:

I think this is a very useful app. But history must have so that we compare the pollution of two different times. Hopefully history feature come soon

N70%
by N####:

Seems to work rather well. They tell you right off the bat that phone microphones aren't good above 90db. Very honest of the developers and refreshing

N70%
by N####:

I think my neighbors may like it more than I do, ha ... who thought I would be able to foster better relationships with a dB Meter. Love it ... many thanks to the developer(s)... Cheers!

Q70%
by Q####:

Brilliant I can keep ma music LOUD but below the legal requirement of 90Db. Sweet no more complaints of my neighbours aha ☺️

U70%
by U####:

I have tinnitus. This app has been a godsend in letting me ascertain the decibel level of any environment and, hence, put in my earplugs and mitigate further hearing damage.

N70%
by N####:

As someone with a hearing impairment I find it quite useful and reassuring! I lack the equipment to test how accurate the app's readings are, but they seem good enough for my purposes.

R70%
by R####:

Seems to work well for competitive testing but as for accuracy it is supposed to be plus or minus 10%. For the price it is worth 5 stars but I took off 1 Star for accuracy.

N70%
by N####:

We just got a new washer and wanted to see how quiet it was compared to the old dinosaur.... now I'm checking how loud the kids are

N70%
by N####:

Works GREAT, just Calibrate it to Your Device (my S6 read high; soft breathing at 22+Db, so I adjusted it to -10 Db when I calibrated it).

M70%
by M####:

I'm not sure how accurate it is, but I use it to ensure a moderate and consistent monitoring level in the studio - somewhere around 60db.

N70%
by N####:

Does what it says it will do . Simple to use . On Droid Turbo ,it appears to be consistent on repeated readings . Could a 12 or 24 hour record feature be added ? Thanks I am adding a note I am tired of all these apps like yours that I've already given a 5-star rating to that keep asking me to rate them I can't remember all the different apps I use and what ratings I give them so I kindly go ahead to do it again to find out I've already done this very redundant please stop asking for Ratings from people that have already given you ratings thank you

N70%
by N####:

App doesn't remember user settings or calibration, resets each time app is closed. Otherwise, nice idea, good interface, just needs bugs fixed.

X70%
by X####:

Good app; within 1dB of calibrated sound meter. Would like to see it save calibration offset. I checked against calibrated sound meter and made adjustment but app is not remembering my value after closing.

N70%
by N####:

I was always curious whether I was being a fool with my car stereo. Tested it, and I feel better! Within range acceptable for human ears.

N70%
by N####:

Very good, with a few things needed. A reference for calibration and determining accuracy would make this more accurare, then save calibrations. It is great for what it is.

N70%
by N####:

Proved how loud some annoying people can be. Great app

N70%
by N####:

It has a very cool black/white background option which saves the eyes. Love the compact all in one design plus extra features.. you'll see once you download it.

N70%
by N####:

Noise measurement doesn't work like this. Actual noise measurement works in sound pressure (dB) which is relative to local environment and can't be measured anywhere near accurately with a phone microphone. What twaddle.

N70%
by N####:

I don't like writing reviews after using an app for 2 minutes. If barely know how to use it, what I'm supposed to say. My review is neutral, neither bad not good.

R70%
by R####:

I had a professional sound meter a while ago to do my stereo it got stolen and I installed this and it works well

You would think that when i click "never show again" that it wouldnt show the message. But it comes up every single time i open this gimmicky app.
