About Aspect Ratio Gallery
Aspect ratio is the term used to describe the dimensions of an image by comparing the width to the height and expressing it in ratio form. As these physical aspects are fixed, it is easy to take the aspect ratio of your images for granted, and to not consider the implications of the aspect ratio you are using in relation to composition. At Aspect ratio gallery we think every aspect of a photograph or video installation has meaning.
The gallery was inaugurated in the west loop of Chicago, September of 2012, with a solo show by Gilad Ratman.
The gallery artists have shown internationally at institutions such as MoMA, The Guggenheim, The Israel Museum, The Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago and many others.
The list of artists who exhibited here already include: Gilad Ratman,Nick Albertson, Xavier Cha, Einat Amir, Alejandro Figueredo Diaz-Perera and many others..
We are currently exhibiting: Uncommon Commonalities, a group exhibition co-curated by Sandy Guttman and Jeroen Nelemans, with work from Einat Amir, Guy Ben-Ner, Rashayla Marie Brown, Glen Fogel and Desirée Holman. Uncommon commonalities deals with the performance of identity. Masks and costuming in the artwork act as a form of layering that are in conversation with the complex nature of today’s society, highlighting a shift toward ambiguity within identity.
We will keep brining you exciting and revealing new art work.
We have a clear social agenda, of exposing human relations and structures in their raw form.
