About ModSynth Modular Synthesizer

ModSynth is a powerful modular synthesizer allowing construction of complex polyphonic instruments. Connect any number of oscillators, filters, delays and other synthesizer modules in a graphical editor. Adjust the settings of each module while playing the instrument to get a desired sound. Save as many instruments or variants of an instrument as you'd like. Ten built-in instruments are provided to help you get started.

The free version contains the following modules:
- Keyboard
- Pad (for theremin and "scratching" effects)
- Oscillator
- Filter
- Envelope
- Mixer
- Amp
- LFO
- Sequencer
- Delay (echo)
- Output (with scope to see the sound)

In-app purchase the full version ($5 US) to expand polyphony (from 3 voices to 10), unlock advanced capabilities, and access these additional modules:
- Arpeggiator for sequential playing of the notes in a chord
- Melody for more complex sequences of notes
- MultiOsc for strings and other chorus sounds,
- Unison for more complex chorusing,
- Operator for building FM synthesis,
- PCM for sampled sounds (WAV and SF2 SoundFont files),
- Reverb for simulating room acoustics.
- Crusher for adding digital distortion.
- Compressor to combine all voices and even the sound levels
- Pan to direct sound to either left or right stereo channels.
- SpectralFilter to control the spectrum of a sound with a bank of 25 bandpass filters
- Function module allowing entry of an arithmetic expression for the module's function
The full version also provides the ability to record sounds to a WAV file.

ModSynth has USB MIDI support for external MIDI keyboards, including mapping of controls to CCs.
It has low latency on devices supporting Android low latency (such as Nexus). All oscillators are anti-aliased, providing low distortion at higher frequencies.

A guide to using ModSynth can be found at http://bjowings.weebly.com/modsynth.html .

A VST plugin is available to run ModSynth created instruments on VST hosts on Windows.
See http://bjowings.weebly.com/modsynthvst.html for the free download and instructions.

Your learn a lot using this app worth your time

D70%
by D####:

Extremely choppy output at all sample rates, performance should not be so poor for such a basic sound generator. There are plenty of other usable software synths out there. This one is unusable.

T70%
by T####:

Very impressed, works very well. Needs a reasonably high end tablet/phone for best results, not cheap Chinese knock offs

J70%
by J####:

Had the free version, was great so bought it. The sound is now crackly and distorted. Can't use it.

T70%
by T####:

Best app so far I was looking for. Synthesis with a visual modeller is amazing design and give me more controlled and flexibility.

U70%
by U####:

It's a nice companion to my Microbrute and Lexicon MX300 for creating great atmospheres, if only there was a way to disable the 'MIDI controller' pop up that appears after a second on press of certain parameters - Damn it's annoying. Can this be disabled in the full version? Thanks devs

A great app for some quick and dirty synthesising. The bare-bones interface makes it very playable.

Low latency, works with usb midi, it's a modular synth, and sounds good!

T70%

Love it. Good controls. Have yet to try usb

Good stuff here.

I love this synth, great clean sound and easy to work with. Works well on my Kindle Fires and very low latency with a Miditech keyboard. The latest update seems to have broken it though - a number of the built in instruments now just create a crackling sound. Hope there's a fix soon. EDIT: all OK now after 3.6 - quick work, it's appreciated.

Very intuitive I would totally recommend this to anyone that wants experiment with creating music using oscillator and filters etc. Connection between modules works really well and the controls of the selected module change the timbre in real time. Brilliant!

P70%
by P####:

Exceptionally well integrated. Great sounds and an ideal learning tool. Also, excellent customer service and prompt response by developper to queries. Paying version well worth the price.

I installed this app and played around with it for a few minutes. It's really quite impressive as a synth. However, when I looked at my phone a few hours later it had switched off due to empty battery. According to settings-> battery this app completely drained my battery, even though I just used it for a few minutes. Maybe this would not have happened if I had the killed the app when I was done playing with it. Nevertheless, I can not live with an app that drains my battery this way. Deleted!

Really great synth, lots of possibilities

T70%

I can really use this for creating new music.

T70%

As above. Too many glitches to be any use to anyone.

T70%

Most excellent & bad ass packet of a 1 to 3 vox synth! I dig the module edits & waveform scope! & the $4.99 full version is 10 vox polyphonic? If I wasn't too paranoid sending money thru the web, I would definently buy it with the sampling modes that come with it! Real clear voices remind one of Roland synths! My 1st synth app ever after reading many reviews on this 1 & others-blastedly stoked on this app!

R70%
by R####:

The new update resolved some minor glitches and now it functions as great as it sounds. Best Android synth hands down.

B70%
by B####:

But there is still minor bugs in full version on S7e. Maybe developer could solve those

I70%
by I####:

...was the main problem I had. Also, I had trouble with the layout. Some of the controls were right to the edge of the screen, even with the available scrolling, while some labels were obscured by their associated controls. I liked the modules, for the most part. I think this would be a lot better on a PC or laptop.

the pad is very fun and useful for making cool sounds. i love how u can edit the modules. the new record function is just what i needed. thanks a bunch! this was definitely the best 5 bucks i ever spent

Truly offers a kazillion ways to see and hear the sound files that you create and control. Perfect for any hobbiest interested in synth & creation. ∆ Bomb-Girrl

Can't exit settings window on small screen.

One of the best apps I've seen. The sound is warm and analog enough to make of this a great softsynth. The modules are simple, yet powerful. It can serve as a sketchpad for ideas that can be later implemented in bigger modular synths like the Nord Modular or Reaktor. It works great with a MIDI keyboard. The only thing I'm missing is the possibility to make certain controls respond to MIDI CCs. With that, this softsynth with a keyboard and some MIDI knobs would be a weapon of choice.

This app is a remarkable achievement. It has great sound, and also serves as a learning tool (which I need). The graphic area where the connections are made stands out as an example of how a user interface should be done. On my screen size (Galaxy S4), the area is a bit smallish to support quick edits. A nice feature would be to temporarily enable a full screen of that interface.

Really liking this app. Being an old Moog modular guy, I find this very easy to use and relate to. Hope to hook it up to a keyboard and use it like a real instrument.

P70%

But I have one request... Could you possibly add a feature that allows you to record sounds and save them as wave files?

L70%
by L####:

Can you record in app on full?

T70%

I wonder how long the free version will last, because it's already more than I expected

After watching that doc about modular synths I was glad to find this app. I hope it continues to expand.

Synthy!

T70%

As a tool to visual explain the various types of synths to high school students this is cool. Wish o-scope stayed on with pad synth but I haven't hooked up my Akai mini keyboard yet.

...then had to (unrelatedly) reset my phone a week later. When the app reinstalled it reinstalled as the basic instead of full. No option to get the full version without a new purchase. Wassup BJ?

R70%
by R####:

Connecting the components together with little lines in the editor was a bit tedious and frustrating enough to convince me to shelf this app until I have a device with a bigger screen and better sensitivity.

i cant download ..what will i do ? ..i like this app so that ir can help me using some gx on kboard .
