About Hear ringtones via bluetooth
This app is intended to address the problem of ringtones not being audible through some bluetooth headsets (specifically those that do not support A2DP). It has been developed and tested on Android™ version 2.3.3 and does not work on Android 4 or later.
Usage is simple: Just start bluetooth and connect to your headset in the usual way. Then start BlueRing. When the phone rings, the ringtone should now play through the headset. Stop BlueRing before disconnecting your bluetooth headset.
Notes.
1. According to the Android developer documentation, the audio format must be mono and the sample rate between 8 and 16kHz.
2. The bluetooth connection uses Synchronous connection-oriented (SCO) link for audio, which may take a few seconds to establish, causing the beginning of the ringtone to be lost.
3. Phone headsets and phones that support A2DP should not require this app.
4. The way to test it is to install it and get a friend to phone you and see what happens. The app responds to incoming phone calls so will not play ringtones via bluetooth if you just go to the ringtone chooser.
5. Since this app is a hack to work around a deficiency in Android itself, it may not work on some hardware/firmware combinations, so please make sure you're ready to test it as soon as you download it.
The app is now free as a result in changes to VAT laws.
