Samba Filesharing for Android for Android
It works well, but I used it on my android TV box, which is connected to the network with a LAN cable. So these wifi settings make me confused. I would like an option that it autostarts with system boot regardless of the connection type. Now i sometimes have to start the service manually.
Must have app for every rooted phone. I love this app. Infact i was searching for this app madly.. thankgod .. atlast u made it again to playstore..but one request.. most of the phones doesn't have menu key.. they might find it difficult.. pls check that
Very outdated. I had to download a menu button emulating app just to be able to open the menu which could easily fit on my screen all the time. Also, it does not support external SD cards unless they are formatted as FAT, meaning no files larger than 4GB.
Apparently media scan is not working on kitkat. And when I did some large transfer file, i got random reboot. Work flawlessly on jb though.
Can't display anything on menu.. Just shows blank no shared path ip address nothing just blank screen appears after installation.. My phone is rooted and installed custom ROM
It only writes "Enabled - Not Running", and there's no way how to make it run. WiFi is on, so what else it needs for work? I use Menu -> Enable, and still getting just some dialog that doesn't make sense, and it's still not running.
On first opening the app there is a popup advising you to set a password in the settings, trouble is there is no menu anywhere! Pointless!
Client sees empty folder.
Connected fine, but Windows can't access the 'sdcard' folder on my phone which has only internal storage named as 'internal storage', while on my tablet 'sdcard' actually points to the internal storage rather than the sdcard (extsdcard) :/ In addition, it couldn't create a support logfile, and the internal uninstall crashes the app :(
Requires a menu key, which newer devices don't have anymore. The speeds are also very low, my local speeds are benchmarked at 400mbit, but this app is only using 16mbit.. Neither my storage or Wi-Fi connection is the bottleneck, client is using gigabit Ethernet.
Works well for internal storage on my Galaxy S5, but doesn't share my external SD card (at least not those with exFAT file systems). If it did, I'd give it 5 stars. It doesn't, so it's worthless to me. Uninstalling.
One request...can you please add a feature that automatically starts the app and enables sharing on boot? Create a "pay" version and I'll buy it. --//-- I have this installed on my rooted Amazon Fire TV and transfer speeds are blazing fast! Up to 72MBytes/s on a USB 2.0 connection, that is insane! It also still works when my device is in SLEEP MODE and no drop in speed.
When I need to access my tablet's SD card storage remotely through any of the computers on my home network, it's just there on the network ready to go! I don't have to go find the tablet which may be somewhere else in the house. I've even printed PDF files directly into my "Documents" folder on the tablet and downloaded e-books right into my e-book app's "Downloads" folder. None of the other Android SMB servers properly support Windows network access (huh)? This one does and it does so well. If it wasn't free, I'd pay for it!
I personally like this option better than FTP server as you can read the complete file information. However I have not been able to get my external card projected to my PC...please help !
At first I thought this was useless application since S5 doesn't have a menu button or not at least until I found it on Google. For people having the same problems just hold down your multi-task button for few seconds (the button at bottom left) and it should work a treat. Now I don't have to bother with USB. Woohoo. :)
I originally tried to use another software, which I wasn't able to get to work with Windows, even after digging for information. So I installed this app, and after a quick setup that took about a minute, I was immediately able to access the (rooted) phone's so-called "internal SD" memory from another Windows PC. Throughput performance wasn't good, but it worked without any noticeable problems.
One of my favourite applocation. Can't live without installing it. Makes u free from hassle of connecting to usb everytime. Will rate 5 stars when bug resolves with KitKat
Works for external SD but not for internal storage. Galaxy S4, accessing from Mac, tethering mode. It shows shares and is able to access external sd (share2) but says "share does not exist on the server" for internal memory. Root access is granted.
I'd used this app for a long time and I'm very happy to use it but recently I have changed my phone and it doesn't have external SD card option. Now when I'm connecting to sharing its doesn't recognize the internal storage..plz add internal storage option too for sharing !!!
This is mostly a well built application that works pretty well. Remember your server password is stored in plain text so don't go putting anything secret in there. Just two snags I've come across that let it down: Unable to remotely access the external SD card (/storage/extSdCard), and that it makes no announcement to a LAN master browser.
Needs root. But worth the risk. After my kitkat update. It works after i rooted my device but the files do not show when exploring on client.
Unfortunately,I don't want it to. In short, this program is a nightmare, from a security point of view. Under certain circumstances, even with white lists enabled and manual start disabled, it still self activates and makes all my files potentially available on an unsecured network. Uninstalling! Update 23/08/14. Try Server Ultimate from Ice Cold Apps. Has facility to switch off automatically when logged off from usual network. Oh and the tech support you get is brilliant!
Apparently media scan is not working on kitkat. And when I did some large transfer file, i got random reboot. Work flawlessly on jb though.
No menu button on the G3 Samba app, so I can't do anything with it. I'll update my review if I figure out what the problem is, or it gets fixed.
Works as advertised. It's the only free SMB server that actually works. However I am experiencing really slow transfer rates (around 400 kb/s) on my Milestone. Tried with Froyo and Gingerbread so its not the software. Also tried on couple of different routers and networks. I am getting around 2 mb/s of transfer rate when using FTP server (SwiFTP) so I know its not the phone itself. It would be nice to see this fixed, even if that means seeing ads in the top or the bottom.
Hi, Good Program that let you see the sd card. the only problem is that it wont support external USB othe than FAT file system.
I will allow transfer however. It does not refresh the media store under kitkat. Since the media does not refresh any mp3 that I transfer to my phone will never bee seen until a device reboot.
All other app allow transfer of files if you are connected to a wifi. This is only app that allows you to transfer files to PC by creating wifi Hotspot and and pc is connected to this wifi. Just type back slash back slash ANDROID in your windows file Explorer and your mmr card will be opened like it is a drive of your Windows. But all of this will work if you have rooted Android.
Thats drain my memory ram, and my battery, and my android become slow. But i still need this app
This updated version now works quite well with my Galaxy S4 running Kitkat (which it didn't before) although I suspect it doesn't support exFAT formatted SD Cards as my 64GB card isn't shared (Additional Shared Folder says "No other read+write FAT based filesystems were detected). Despite this, it's a very simple way of getting files onto the phone.
It does what we need from it. It's small enough to be converted into system app. I'd love for it to support longer passwords, custom names for the shares, more shares and more users (for multiple permissions). But as it is, is a must have, it should come preinstalled by default in every android device.
Goood: was able to share files Bad: max speed 600kB/s, crashes after couple minutes while transferring video. Tried it on TV box with quad core CPU in 2GB of ram. Very slow on other devices as well.
I can't do a thing because the app menu that's mentioned on the pop up window at startup never materializes. Feex it please!
A workaround for those that are having the issue 'no menu' issue and a long press on the app switcher button doesn't work, get the 'Button Savior' app in the Store. Apart from that major issue, app does as advertised.
Great app, but will be better when I can use my external exFAT formatted SD Cards as this is the primary location I store my videos on, which is really the only files I transfer from PC to tablet.
Client sees empty folder.
This is a fine app that works well on my Nexus 7, but becomes pretty pointless on my Sprint LG G3 if I can't access the settings menu. Giving it one star for this HUGE miss on the G3. Will change when I read about it being fixed.
Still not working the best on jelly bean. Takes forever to enable/disable, but still i prefer this app over any other.
Good program: Two suggestions would make it indispensable: 1. Ability to share usb drives (NTFS) 2. Add a shortcut key or on-screen clickable point for menu as menu doesnt show on my mk808 stick using a wifi mouse.

Thanks so much. This app is a life saver. Ever since I flashed LineageOS 14.1 ROM, I couldn't get External SD Card to appear as a drive letter on Windows 10. I would give 5 stars but the main screen GUI is buggy since it shows incorrect status. If I enable it, it says it not running. I could even access both Internal and External SD Card while disabled and not running. Be great if this could be fixed. I'm using LineageOS flashed su plugin if that effects it.
