About genpasswd

Just what I'm looking for except that the password disappears from the screen very quickly. Needs manual dismiss feature.

A very useful app. I was searching for a plain text-to-SHA1 app to generate unique passwords for every site myself, based on text strings like for example "user+website+password" and then use the first eight or so characters from the generated SHA1 hash. This is so much better and easier. Most password generators generate only random passwords which are impossible to remember, especially if you want to (and you should!) use different passwords everywhere. This app lets you generate unique passwords for every website, and there's no need to remember any of them. In addition to the password, you can specify a salt containing for example an increasing number for sites that insist on new passwords now and then. And this is important: It needs no permissions to run. If it wanted Internet access, I couldn't trust it. It could send the user credentials and every password to a server on the net, and I wouldn't know. But it's open source, everyone can inspect the source code (it's stored on GitHub), and the algorithm is simple, but effective. This is the correct way to deal with passwords.
