The Bruce Trail - Official for Android
The best feature of this app is that you can highlight the latitude/longitude of a Bruce Trail parking lot in the app and it automatically copies the location data to clipboard. Then you can paste the location into Google maps and your phone GPS will take you right to the trail head. This feature alone is worth the 20$. It even tells you if the parking is free or paid.
I want to return this product and get my refund, but I cannot find the link to do this; I was wondering if you could help me to do this. Thank you.
Recording function does not work reliably when vegetation is heavy. Power consumption high to support GPS. Distance measuring function difficult to use on Samsung Galaxy 6S.
The colour of the side trails, now in blue, should be a different colour, say magenta, because it is confusing with the creeks which are also in blue. The font size for the side trail labels are too large.
What a fantastic resource! Thank you!!! The app is polished and well designed. I've noticed a few little irritants, but I'm sure they'll be ironed out over time. Highly recommended!! Suggestions: entering/exiting full screen mode could be more obvious, clicking the scale works though. Hide the side buttons (except location) in full screen mode. Remove "The" from the app's name so it's listed under "B" in the app menu rather than "T". Measuring distance between two points is awkward when there are multiple routes. Anything you can do to improve the speed of the app would go a long way.
Updated after 16 months of use. About location tracking - it works only if location service is set to "high accuracy" mode on your device. Mobile data can be turned off to prevent data usage. If you save a track, it is a kmz file, but the app does not help you view it later. Try Google Earth or another app to view these files for your hiking history. The app gives you an up-to-date map of the entire Bruce Trail system - with re-routes and new trails included. I use it to ensure that I am on the trail, and to help me get back on track when I deviate. The app has received absolutely zero enhancement since introduction, remaining primitive in hike planning and tracking functionality.
So often it stops recording , and then resumes much later in the hike .. my guess is that relies on cell availability which it should not for GPS recording. And most of the time the app seems to freeze when starting but it eventually comes back to life. Such a shame .. having current maps and being able to confirm you are in the right area would be so great.
Dropping pins to measure distance is an exercise in frustration. Seem to have to press 10 times to get pin placed and then it's not exactly where you wanted it. Measuring is a 4 step process which seems inefficient... Select ruler... Place pin 1... Place pin 2...click measure again.
Just loaded after today's hike, was super happy to see the reduction in price. I will raise my rating after I use it. I think I still want to load the paper maps to plan my hike. I don't like that the mile markers aren't on this!! If they were there I wouldn't have to pay for maps as well!
Horribly, horribly slow. I downloaded all the maps and it still is so painfully slow to pinch and zoom. What gives? $20 for something as painful as this to use? Update: July, 2016. It is much smoother now. I enjoy using it now and with the GPS tracking enabled, it really helps me to stay on the trail that I want to be on.
I used the APP every day over the course of my 39 day hike and it proved to be invaluable. There are flaws it is not perfect but for me it was a very useful tool. GPS locating worked 95 percent of the time all the way to Tobermory. Trail measuring proved to be bang on accurate. I would not attempt the End to End without this APP.
Very disappointed with an app charge more than $20. Such a slow app!!! It totally didn't do what it claimed to do. I want my money back!!! Does anyone know how to get refund back? Thanks.
I have no problem paying $20 for this app...if it worked as advertised. It's slow, it doesn't track while I'm on the trail and it doesn't even give me my location when I check the maps. How can you take someone's money for an app that doesn't function properly.
I set it up to track our hike. As one would expect we were on the trail but the tracking showed us everywhere except on the trail. For the money paid I was fairly disappointed. Coupled with the fact that I had to purchase the app twice, once for an Apple device and once for an Android device
It's cool that you can measure lengths of trail. That will be handy. And knowing where parking locations are is great too. But, the tracking feature didn't work for me either in my first trial of the software. It drew the black line all over the surrounding area, zig-zagging no where near the trail.
I was looking for a hassle free way to log my end to end walk of the Bruce Trail. I will probably use paper. It was not worth the money.
Disappointed the trails don't show up like they are supposed to. I had just bought the map book when this app came out. I expected for this much money to get at least what the book has. Looks like I'll be using the paper maps until this issue is resolved.

I'm a card carrying member of the Bruce Trail Conservancy. I want to love this map. But it's just awful to use. It's too slow. There's huge amounts of lag scrolling or zooming, it frequently redraws, doesn't respond to touches and hangs. I think it's waiting for data and I'm on a slow connection, but here's the thing: I'M ON THE TRAIL. Drag your devs out to the trail and let them feel the pain. Until then, I'm still using my scans. (FYI running a OnePlus One so got enough CPU and ram)
Maybe it's my phone, Nexus 6. My Trail Guide and free GPS app give me more information. I can't get it to do what it claims to do such as plan and track. I tried to search for the Hermitage in Dundas Valley and it took me to New York. Very disappointing. For now I will stick with my hard copies.
I was very excited about this app, have never spent so much for one before but was a huge waste of money, I feel robbed. The tracking doesn't work, with or without data. Not showing all trails. Does show parking lots. I sent an email asking for help and received no reply.
Definitely worth using on a hike. Problem on my Moto G 2nd generation - the app won't accept GPS only mode, insists on data plan. I'm too cheap to have one so my work around is to start and run Canada Maps concurrently and then the Bruce trail App is happy to perform as a piggy-back, probably uses extra battery life that way but so far ok for about 8 hours at a time.
Would be nice if the parking locations opened in Google maps or other navigation app. As it stands you have to copy and paste the GPS coordinates to Google maps if you want to navigate.
Used this yesterday in Hamilton and my trail (black line) jumps all over the map so from a documentation standpoint it is a disappointment

Very handy to have the map in the palm of my hand and showing me where I am, and have parking information available. It was a little slow on my phone until I changed to street map only (as opposed to the topographic map). Like other users I would love if there were mile markers provided and more information provided in the hike tracker (distance, time) as I currently have to use a separate app for that.
Good start, some bugs to be worked out. Like the one where the app quits once one taps on parking info icons
Trails show up in red. It shows pics, parking spots and campsites, and real time update of location.
App works well for what its for - to show the Bruce trail maps. However, a big missing feature in my opinion is the lack of mile markers. Those can be invaluable for setting up hikes and meeting points, and for quickly estimating distances. Other than that, no complaints.
The app doesn't show the actual trail on my S4. The trail does show up on my Apple iOS.
Trails don't show on my Nexus 5 phone or Nexus 7 tablet. Darn. I was really looking forward to using this app. Reinstalling doesn't help. At least I know where the parking spots and campsites are.

No trails, please fix!
Finally got it working on my Blackberry Passport!!! Works quite well there albeit sluggish. I didn't find the app very useful. It is VERY sluggish. In comparison, to have the maps as pdf files is much more practical for me. There are so many well marked side trails that it would be hard to get lost just using the paper or pdf maps plus your built in GPS and Google Maps. Also, I can instantly see, at what mileage I am on regular maps. There are NO mileage points on this app which is a big drawback. It drained the battery of my Nexus tablet like crazy.
Love the Bruce trail, but not this app. Glitchy and slow on my HTC one m8, and the main menu in the top left doesn't always load and is therefore not reliable to use : (
It is nice to have a full up to date map of Bruce Trail and be able to see your progress on a hike. However, the app need a lot of development to provide basic information such as length and time of hike, elevation gain, etc. Also, the apps now clashes each time I tap on a P and then tap for info about the parking. I am sure that, over time, this will develop into a very useful app. Right now, I have another app that is much more functional for hiking, but it does not get timely update of trail changes.
The maps perform very sluggishly on my Galaxy S3. Also very confusing when the BTC Topo maps overlay (slowly) on top of the satellite maps. Haven't yet tried it in the field.
Well done! Worth the money. Think I am the first buyer...of going to be many. I have a Nexus 6, so my processor can handle it fine.

Walked gover 20 k pinning photoes and walk time. Opened the app the following day and all my hard work was gone. This is not acceptable for a very expensive App.
