作者：李宗洲博士
幼年時是一個熱愛棒球的孩子，1970 年曾擔任國家少棒隊「七虎隊」游擊手，代表遠東區參加威廉波特世界少棒錦標賽，因棒球成績優異，初中進入華興中學就讀。
高中進入高雄中學就讀後，暫時離開棒球生涯，專心向學；1976 年考上東海大學生物系後，開始投入生技相關領域。
大學畢業後赴美深造， 取得德州大學博士學位，先後任職於美國國家衛生研究院（NIH）、美國喬治城大學醫學院等機構，在美期間近20 年。
