Financial Times for Android
I criticized the hell out of this app for constant crashing a little over 2 years ago. I was ready to cancel my subscription: As a road warrior mobile was my connection to the world was 90% mobile. It functions perfectly now. I appreciate the attention to detail.
Two areas where the FT could make the app work better. The excellent Portfolio feature on the web-based service is only available as a two line summary. Also I'd like to see the newspaper format replicated so I can see what is on today's edition. Otherwise good
I'm not interested in your videos and dont like your pushing them at me. I have read the FT since 1980 and find it has deteriorated since your change of ownership - the quality of your journalism and use of English have both slipped - it seems more American than it was.
It loads every time. Takes ages to store stuff on your ohone if you go with no reception. Cant cut and paste. Too many photos of the editor all over the sign up process. 2 levels of subcription are annoying.
Pros: i) Overall good app for news reports. Cons: i) Search function for past news reports/articles isn't great - incomplete results. ii) Layout of app could be improved: let users customize by topic or region (e.g. is the BBC news app). For e.g. I am interested in "World politics" and "Asia business", so would like to put these topics in the left panel, but not "UK" or "Brexit" or "FT Weekend", and would lile to remove them from the left panel.
App is easy to navigate, great looking interface and quite a variety of features. I just dislike the whole sections for UK and Brexit, seriously who cares!
Edit: Scrolling now FAST again since Jan 2017: this was slow when "flicking" up/down an article, for the previous couple of months. Would also like it to preload/refresh existing article comments - I use it offline quite a lot. As noted by others, could we also have the gift function? Thanks.
In general a crisp and conventionally designed app... Not sure why you've overridden the gesture detection on the main screen scroll it makes it feel laggy and sluggish (and different to the other screens). There are out of the box open source libraries that can deal with infinite scroll/lazy loading vs onFling() if that's the main problem. Samsung galaxy note 4
The app provides quick access to FT content through the day. The content is brilliant and it is available offline, very convenient when you commute. The clipboard integration is not well done - cannot copy even the single word from the article. Otherwise, nice app.
The new BP advert that automatically comes up is excruciatingly annoying. We already pay a subscription to use this app. Don't force us to watch rubbish
App itself is okay. However, international content has a strong pro-China bias. Many articles spread misinformation directly copied from Chinese state media. Disappointed. I thought FT can offer quality journalism.
The simple act of scrolling through an article drains one's battery at an alarming rate. Furthermore, it is far too easy to accidentally swipe to the previous or next article, losing one's place in whatever article is being read at the time. These two problems alone render the app frustrating in the extreme. If you are a weekend subscriber, bookmarking an article to read later will often result in it being unavailable when eventually trying to read it. There are no date/timestamps on articles either.
Up from 1 star to 3 stars, crashes are far less frequent, I have had issues posting comments from mobile, but the app seems faster than previously. Does tend to provide irrelevant notifications a couple of times daily though, which I could do without.
Once again ad overload is making my FT reading experience very slow & sticky. This is *not* what I'm paying a $400/year subscription for :-(
Navigation can be clumsy but the stories are indeed all there.
Some features unavailable on app such as myft which is just annoying. Otherwise it's pretty smooth.
What a piece of crap. Won't open link from NBC Breaking News.
The FT sustains differentiated and insightful coverage of a broad range of key topics, and hosts an indispensable reader comments section. More powerful sharing and other reader and community tools would improve the experience, as would obviating the need to open a link to access certain FT content outside of the app.
For a premium subscription, could've maybe made the app a bit more modern, like Bloomberg for example. Nevertheless, it functions correctly, giving a great insight on the news, without glitches or other undesirable outcomes.
Not having a any issues on Android 7.0...smooth sailing and good content. Want alert from app for breaking news, please add.
Generally good but gets stuck quite often. Share price graphs: you can't adjust time period (e.g. 5 day, 5 year) of graph. But on web FT, you can. Also at bottom of an article it would be good to have more navigation options, not just 'go to top of article'.
This is a great app. From the first download it has always worked seamlessly. The developer(s) have really considered the user experience and built an app accordingly. I'm a very happy FT reader and I regularly recommend this app to others.
App keeps trying to load updated edition even when there is no Internet connection... and so I can't read any articles when offline. Defeats the purpose of downloading the articles in the first place!
The font is toooo small even when I choose the largest available font from setting. Not optimized for medium size tablets
Haven't had any problems. But not as robust nor easy to use as iOS version.
Maybe just needs a bit of tuning and Christmas isn't the best time to test a news app. Generally great and easy to use.
The number and quality of news on the front page limited. Also, scroll is broken on galaxy s5, it takes forever to scroll down or up on a long page.
Content is undoubtedly outstanding. The app relays it seamlessly. The last version of the app used to need a refresh to update the news, which has been taken care of in this new version, which is very helpful.
Very easy to use app-user friendly! Doesn't dissapoint! Love the Android widget but I would like to see a change towards video content also i.e. videos, interviews or expert analysis etc.
Would have preferred the hard copy, but this is unavailable in my country. So, the app is the best alternative. Works well and easily navigable.
Should show My Portfolio broken down not just the total.
A great alternative to my habit of buying the weekend printed edition. As a, now, weekend digital edition subscriber I can read it or catch up anytime.
When I turn my device from portrait to landscape mode and back it goes back to the article I first opened. Please fix
Smooth response, reliable, easy to navigate. I wish the links in email briefings could open in the app offline but this is currently not the case.
The only app I've felt compelled to rate; the simple layout that contains everything you're looking for is what makes this such great news app compared to others.
I've always admired the FT app as being quick and simple. I know they have not gone down the usual route with the tech behind their app and it works!
The best fluid experience in navigation and high standards of journalism in the articles. One stop shop for financial information!!!
Nice material design and fast almost across the board with the exception of the initial start screen which takes a while even if the app was previously running on the background to download the latest stories.
The new BP app is extremely irritating! It seems almost impossible to use now! FT, please fix this!

Really good app, no performance issues and does the job. The only issue is that there is no button for gifting articles from the app, rather than the web page. This is irritating when I wish to send articles that are particularly interesting to a friend or colleague. Seems an easy thing to fix so I hope it's done soon - would be 5 stars otherwise!
