FreedomPop Messaging Phone/SIM for Android
Not to bad so far. But I just joined FP. One thing I do know is messaging app needs a dark theme this light theme is eating up my battery..
It worked for about 30 minutes, then it said my account was suspended. After it became unsuspended, it went from 4g to 2g in a week. It offers the option to refill, but in order to take the "option" off you need to pay $5.... Seems to me a bunch of con-artist decided to make a cell company
App seems to start more than once. Also fed up with seeing the multiple "app is not default" dialogues. I use dual sim, and don't want it as default.
FreedomPop has a long way to go before it's ready for primetime.
It wont let me send pictures arw videos
Often uses more battery than Screen, or Android OS. This never happens with other apps. What's going on?
Working again after server outage
I think you should add a feature that allows you to reply to messages without leaving the app you're currently on.
dropped calls and texting
I love this app
Needs work but it's great for a beta app
Awesome service!
Very good service.... Worldwide GSM works excellent at good prices
So far so good
One of a kind !!!
Good application
Perfect
Everything is fine except for MMS. I have an LG G2 sprint phone. I bought the MMS service. I can receive group texts. But when I send group texts, although my app shows sent,my recipients do not receive it at all. My text usage was deducted by 2 texts if I send to 2 people, even though they are also freedompop users. And the phone number column in my text history is blank. By the way, if I send a picture to one person, that person can receive it. Please fix this MMS issue.
The idea is that this app replaces your normal cellular voice service. Sadly that idea is not a reality...This app is nowhere near a replacement for your normal cellular service. I have tried both the CDMA and LTE GSM version. The cellular carriers (Sprint or AT&T) provide a highly reliable data connection but the app will strand you without service. I have been using the LTE GSM service as my daily driver for a week now and yikes...I've been stranded twice without service (and I'm a light user). I want to love FreedomPop, but the degree to which the app has failed to do its job disqualifies it as a real cellular replacement.
Joined FPop 1.5 years ago. Works good on every phone I own. Whether via Wi-Fi or cell tower antenna connection. Occasional issue of reinstalling app for making calls. Better call clarity than Hangouts dialer. Latest update looks fantastic!
I got this service because I need something basic to make calls and texts... what a joke. After using the service for over a month, I'm finding out that I've been missing a LOT of calls and texts, in fact, nearly all of them. It is unacceptable to offer a call/text service that won't ensure that you even receive your calls/texts. Customer service is non-existent. To add insult to injury, this app is terrible, and every time you update it you lose your settings.
Can't receive or dial calls using 4G LTE. Data network is fine though. Call seems okay with WIFI. Didn't work before. Looks like you need to press SYNC ACCOUNT DATA each time you switch between Network, ie WiFi, Data. Keep losing App Shortcut. Lost it entirely from App Drawer. Very Strange.
Sound quality is low and calls goes in and out.. not good. It is not stable nor reliable. So many drop calls. It's useless. And my number still has not been ported and no response from customer care. Not satisfied. I will definitely cancel this before my trial is up.
With the latest update I can not call out on cell or wifi. I receive maybe a 1/3 of phone calls. It gets 2 stars because text messaging and apps like gmaps still function.
Have had a few issues but was working relatively ok until yesterday, now I can't make/ receive calls or send/ receive texts. I have updated to the latest version and synced account data but still just shows calling and then a pop up appears saying please check the number you entered is correct. I have tried with numerous phone numbers both land line and mobile which I know to be correct and still nothing. I think it's time for me to give up on cheap calling!
Slow to load each time. Still can't receive texts and has trouble connecting many calls first time. They only connect after a number of attempts. I will be leaving.
Not happy with the voice service. Very unreliable and poor call quality. The texting part is good and seems reliable. Does have some bugs t work out still, but seems to be getting better as time goes by.
Only been using Freedompop for a short time, but apart from the odd dropped call (which can happen with any cellphone), it seems to work well. Hopefully this will last a long time. I did experience problems with making outgoing calls (but not texts). The latest update, as promised, seems to resolve that.
It was all working fine, until it's telling me my device needs to be activated, even though it already is.. whenever I enter in my phone is number, and my email, it says my phone is already activated, but here, it's telling me I need to activate my phone?? Flawed app. Can't make phone calls or text.
SIM card is working but the network is rejecting it. Service was registered without issue and All I can do with this app is use it over wi-fi which is useless. Tried to contact support and got shoved to a forum where I've been ignored. Mobile operator is clearly a scam.
SCAM. free month? When you lower your plan down to the free plan, they automatically charge you $15. SCAM SCAM SCAM DO NOT BUY SCAM SCAM
Unfortunately stops immediately on Asus fonetab. I look forward to the next upgrade. Update: I installed an older version and all was well. Later updated Android to 5.0 and again all was well. Finally updated FreedomPop and still all is well. Upgrade to 4 stars. 1 March 2017 Changed phone and upgraded the app BUT...I cannot make outgoing calls. I can receive calls. I can send and receive text messages. Calls to O2 EITHER display "calling" but nothing happens OR "Call error There was an error placing the call to +4477xxxxxxxx..........." (That is MY O2 number). I see that the "Call error" problem has recently been reported. Furthermore I cannot call my landline in Harrogate either. I get the "calling" display but nothing happens. I have not tried any other numbers yet. 2nd March - all is working. It's a miracle.
Issues below have been fixed but only through patience and work on my side to try to fix the problem. The below previous bit is still possibly relevant to some so its staying there for now. ------------------------- It had been working fine had everything set up properly, now for no good reason even when its connected to the cell network and acts like it has connection it doesn't. ive tried all sorts of things to fix the issue but so far no solution it seems, can only seem to use my phone on wifi networks now.... Not helpful in the least.
My phone is a dual-SIM phone. This app blocks placing all outgoing calls through the second (T-Mobile) SIM. Can't place a call without uninstalling the app first. The app doesn't properly save outgoing calls in my phone book: either numbers or time stamps are displayed empty. Outgoing calls through FreedomPop SIM usually fail or stream silence, in spite of strong AT&T reception. Internet seems to work, but is slow.
Can get incoming calls. People trying to get hold of me tell me it rings but I'm not getting the notification. Each update is making my service worse
It just barely works half the time. I couldn't get the service to work at all, and sometimes it freezes up my phone I think. Really disappointing.
This app was great to start with until we realised we can only text or call using mobile data when out. It states we have unlimited texts and minutes but in order to use the minutes and texts I have to use my data so therefore the texts and minutes are not unlimited because they are limited by the amount of data you have and there is not an option for unlimited data in any plan. My wife also has freedom pop but because she has run out of mobile data her account has been deactivated therefore I cannot get in touch with her at all as my calls or texts won't go through to her also she can no longer use her remaining minutes or texts even though she has 22 days left on her plan but will be expected to pay for it at the end of the month. I'm going back to my previous network provider. Wouldn't recommend freedom pop to anyone. Not a reliable enough service.
FreedomPop saves me so much cash every single month. We have four phones using the free service and I recommend it if you are technically inclined. There is a delay in the Voip calling feature, and you have to learn to sync your account if texts don't go through immediately, then resend. We have had a few hiccups in getting started with the cell data service, and customer service is hard to reach. The app itself gets 5 stars. FreedomPop itself only gets 3. Try the app first to make sure you can live with their Voip quality, and use a disposable email if you think you might sign up for the free cell service later. Trust me, it will save you from missing out on free data later.
AMAZING price but extremely inconvenient to have to download 5 more apps, of which only 1 can be moved to my sd card. Also you really have no options in messaging like you do even on "dumb" phones. Otherwise extremely grateful!!

App is needed to make & receive calls but regularly I cannot do either until I close the app and clear the data. The only way to ensure use during the day is to make an early call. I am now closing my FP Acct and going elsewhere after only a month.
