About FoxFi (WiFi Tether w/o Root)

A new WiFi Direct solution (free update) is now added to PdaNet for connecting computers or tablets in addition to USB tether. The legacy WiFi Hotspot solution remains in FoxFi. If the legacy FoxFi feature still works for your phone, it is still the best solution for sharing phone Internet since there is no limit on what kind of devices you can connect.

======(New)WiFi Direct Hotspot=======
This new WiFi Direct feature in PdaNet 5 allows you to connect WiFi mode from computers or tablets. However unlike the old WiFi Hotspot, it will require you to either install PdaNet on the connecting computers/tablets or set up proxy settings. Use this feature if you are no longer able to turn on WiFi Hotspot, or if your WiFi Hotspot usage is being metered when you already have an unlimited data plan.

======(Legacy)WiFi Hotspot=====
Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later no longer allows the old WiFi Hotspot mode even for Verizon phones. Please refer to PdaNet instead for alternative solutions.

Due to lockdowns through each phone system update, the old WiFi mode will only be allowed on a short list of compatible devices. As of 11/2016, IN GENERAL:
---Android 7.0 (Nougat) or later no longer allows WiFi mode even for Verizon phones.
---Verizon Samsung phones (S3/4/5/6/7/Edge, Note 2/3/4/5 etc.) , Verizon LG phones (V10, G2/3/4/5 etc.) and Verizon Sony phones (Z2/Z3) are supported by Android versions up to Android 6.0/6.1.
---Verizon HTC phones (M7/8) will only work on Android 4.1 ~ 4.4.
---Verizon Motorola phones will only work on Android 4.3 or below.
---AT&T Samsung phones will only work on Android 4.2 or below.
---Other carriers/phones will only work if they still have Android 4.0 or below.
---Straight Talk phones will only work if it uses Verizon and are compatible with the above.
---For all other phones, use USB mode or Bluetooth mode instead.

*To get around lockdowns on WiFi mode FoxFi may prompt you to install a certificate on your phone, this will cause the Android system to enforce a screen lock and show a security message in notification. For more detail and steps to remove screen lock please visit http://pdanet.co/wifi.
*If you receive a message asking for a "password for credential strorage" this is due to a bug in the Android system. Please see steps to clear this message at http://pdanet.co/wifi

Free edition will turn off after timed usage limit but you can turned it back on, otherwise it is same as full version.

What are users saying about FoxFi (WiFi Tether w/o Root)

Worked fine until I bought the paid upgrade, then no connect. Took me awhile to figure changing DNS server would fix it. (It's easier than you might think to do!) Still haven't been able to make the PdaNet connect yet, but the Fox Fi is just screaming along... So far.. Stay tuned...

Loved this app for 5 or 6 years, until Verizon and Samsung updated and blocked it. After hitting "Install later" for a year I finally mistakenly hit "Install Now" picking my phone up. Now it will not work. When my contract is up I will move away, after years and years, from Verizon and Samsung. I do not like them forcing unwanted updats on my phone.

N70%
by N####:

I had this app and paid for the full version to use tether. After they take my money, they separate PDANet and now it tells me it does not work with my carrier. I would like a refund

A70%
by A####:

Great app but recently for some reason I keep getting the error 13 when I attempt to USB tether. Usually after a couple hours it goes away but it's been a week this time. If anyone knows anything I'm running 7.0 LG Stylo 3. Any help appreciated.

by Z####:

I owned a Galaxy S5 and just bought a S8+ and to my surprise, the hotspot is no longer supported. I'm very disappointed that I can no longer use this feature. Instead of selling out to Verizon, you could have made a lot more money by offering the same service for an additional fee. I would have gladly paid $100 to keep the hotspot working.

E70%
by E####:

It took atleast 10 downloads of other apps to finally find this one that actually worked. I just wanted to connect my tv to my phone since I don't have wifi right now. Worth paying the $8 rather than $40 to add more hotspot data to my phone. !

Anybody having issues with not being able to download the pdanet app just download the apk from their website. The foxfi key still unlocks everything. I know sprint blocks the app in the playstore, but downloading their apk is a perfect workaround.

B70%
by B####:

This app used to work great. Now with my note 8 it says "wifi mode no longer allowed with lastest system update without a mobile hotspot plan.". That pretty makes this app useless!

Y70%
by Y####:

This app is basically useless now for me, but luckily pdanet and FoxFi use the same key code, so I have the full version... Which is nice

Z70%
by Z####:

Paid for this years ago. Now that's it's separate form Pdanet it wants you to install the key for the app to work but the play store won't except any payment type I've tried. This is just broken and obviously never coming back. Verizon has obviously finally beat this app. The developer has not responded to any requests for info I've made.

Currently: 1/9/2018 - Foxfi Key version 1.03 along with Foxfi version 2.20 works perfectly on my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 running Marshmallow 6.0.1 connecting to Roku, laptop, tablet, and game console without having a hotspot through Verizon. Previously: 5/15/2017 - Foxfi Key version 1.03 along Foxfi version 2.19 works perfectly on my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S4 running lollipop 5.0.1 connecting to Roku, laptop, and game console without having a hotspot through Verizon.

Z70%
by Z####:

Worked perfect for a long time. Please fix after up date.. best app out there. Would gladly pay yearly. . Like some apps.. PLEASE FIX.. I don't even use it that much only for emergencies.

S70%
by S####:

Key version (paid version) Worked great for years with galaxy s3 and s4. In12/17 major problems w/s4. Will not work with verizon s7.

Z70%
by Z####:

App used to work great. Now after update nothing seems to work. It says I'm connected but I can't get internet. Very sad. Previous version worked great.

Z70%
by Z####:

I read the reviews but used this back in the day and decided to use it again and just the free version. It worked really great, I was able to update my Nintendo switch using this, sure I had to restart the WiFi for it but it still worked great!

Z70%
by Z####:

New update removes all functionality of tethering with USB or Bluetooth. So it's completely useless.

Z70%
by Z####:

Purchased this, then they updated the app and reset my license so it is invalid. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS, THEY RIPPED ME OFF.

M70%
by M####:

This is supposed to be the old version of their other app. Don't pay for either. They broke the one and the other doesn't work.

Z70%
by Z####:

Was using bluetooth to tether but that option appears to have been removed. Now the app does not work.

Z70%
by Z####:

The app used to be very useful, for years, but not anymore! They removed BT tethering for some unknown reason. Add BT Tether for my 5star rating.

Z70%
by Z####:

Great for certain phone models. Don't recommend for an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4 Active though. Worked great on my old S4 though

R70%
by R####:

Foxfi wireless hotspot is better on my verizon S3. Pdanet+ has an older version of Foxfi and data seems slower. Yup pdanet bought foxfi, noted already.

Z70%
by Z####:

The latest update to version 2.20.4 eliminated my ability to usb tether my Sprint phone to my laptops. Is there anyway I can go back to the version that worked?

Z70%
by Z####:

New phone carrier now, this app has been upgraded to the point it won't connect to all devices without dropping the connection. Is there anyway to fix this? This used to be such a great app.

Z70%
by Z####:

Been using this for years. Worked with all three major carriers. Of course I'd never buy a phone from a phone company since they can not have unlocked bootloader or root and who knows what software they bundle in to prevent utilities like this from working.

R70%
by R####:

It was perfect. Normally I can't use the internet to play any games because my mom is too busy hogging all the wifi doing her job, but this really helps me get a better signal.

Z70%
by Z####:

Does not provide you with free wifi. Takes you to the settings of the wifi already installed on your phone by default. Must pay service provider to actually have WiFi through this app.

Z70%
by Z####:

Can no longer use usb tether on my network. The while reason I got it due to almost no internet available in my area.

Z70%
by Z####:

I've been using PdaNet + FoxFi for over 4 years I've save probably $1,000 by using this and I recommend anybody and everybody to use this format

S70%
by S####:

First app I've ever spent money on and never will again! I finally got the free version to work on my ZTE, bought the Unlocked version and it never works! I Want A Refund!!!

G70%
by G####:

Don't work on my galaxy j7 sky pro. It came with pdanet will connect but no internet access

B70%
by B####:

If they can make it so you can set the network and password again it will go back to 5 stars

G70%
by G####:

I couldn't get it to work properly. I would get a connection then it would say it couldn't be connected to within the time limit

C70%
by C####:

Still wants me to purchase a tethering plan. Why bother downloading then?

Z70%
by Z####:

You got rid of the only reason people download this app, to bypass the no hotspot for prepaid service.

Z70%
by Z####:

No longer works. Dev is not interested in improvements.

M70%
by M####:

I have this app and have had it for a long time and it works

F70%
by F####:

My phone already has limited tethering, i bought this app to use tethering without defaulting to my phones tethering plan. The app automatically uses my tethering plan

Z70%
by Z####:

New update kicked me off Sprint....

Z70%
by Z####:

I want a refund. I paid $10.00 for this app and now it does not support tethering. Constantly dropped when it did.
