ROOT: ROOT Access

Keyboard: Google Keyboard recommended (free on Google Play), others might not adjust dynamically to changes in resolution

Samsung devices with multi window such as the new note 10.1 2014, and note 3: Samsung is using a custom made window manager that at the moment is not compatible with changes to the device resolution.

What does this app do?
It allows to change the resolution and the pixels density of your device

Why is this useful?
Watching Video using the hdmi output will usually mirror the screen content without correcting for aspect ratio, by setting the correct resolution and pixel density of the screen to match the tv allows to fill the entire external screen and avoid side black bars.

Playing games on an external tv: normally, the device will render the games to the full resolution available on the device's screen. On the case of the Nexus 10, games will be rendered to its huge resolution of 2560x1600 and then it will be scaled down to the tv screen resolution wasting GPU processing power and resulting on more heat and power consumption during gaming. By reducing the screen resolution to match the external monitor/tv less processing power is needed to render the game at the lower tv's resolution, many games will even use the extra processing power available for more effects or more frames per second.

For developers to simulate other screen resolutions and pixel density for android developers to test their applications on the physical device and observe how their application will look on other devices.

Available Options:
Manual Settings: Allows to manually select the desired resolution and pixel density according to pre-defined standard aspect ratios.

Auto Detection: Will run in the background and will detect HDMI connections and disconnections. On a HDMI connection detected, a notification will be presented to apply the detected screen resolution and pixel density appropriate for your screen. On a HDMI disconnection, the notification will allow to return to the device's default settings.

Reboot Mode: New Soft Reboot will only reboot the graphical interface not the entire system (Fast). Normal Full Reboot (safest, use if you find interface issues with the Soft Reboot).

Screen Size: Define your screen size (affects dpi calculation). This setting comes pre-defined for the nexus 10, but for other devices you should change it to match your screen size.

HDMI Resolution Preset: Define your preferred output resolution instead of using the Auto-Detection option.

Default Settings: reset to the factory configuration.

Auto DPI Selection it will select the appropriate dpi value for the selected resolution and the screen size defined on the settings.

Screen OFF feature: (experimental, tested to be working on nexus 10): allows you turn your device's screen off while keeping the output to the hdmi to reduce the power usage. To turn the screen back ON just press the power button twice or simply disconnect the hdmi.

New Recovery Feature: Recovers the default screen setting in case the device did not support the resolution applied. To trigger the recovery feature, plug and unplug the power/charger to the device allowing ~1s between plug/unplug as many times as defined on the settings menu, default is 3 times.

Why a reboot is needed to apply the new screen settings?
For now the safest way to restore the entire Interface with the new resolution and pixel density is to reboot the system. The new Soft Reboot should reduce considerably the time required to reset the interface.

I can now play movies or games on my tv without the black bars around the image. Also turning off my nexus 7's screen when outputting on a tv pretty much halves the tablet's battery usage. Would be nice if it didn't need to soft reboot every time i changed a setting, but it's pretty fast so that's just a minor inconvenient.

This kills SwiftKey. Luckily there's a "reset" button that works to fix it (simply setting the resolution to the default does not)

Same error as Dmitry. Great app, DOES NOT SUPPORT Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 yet ... Hi there Forbitel. I used the script on XDA to change my screen settings to 1920x1080. It ended up with the tablet boot looping the Samsung boot logo. So I had to restore by flashing the firmware and wiping my data. After I got back up and running, I read on XDA that you have an app on the Play Store that does it without a script. So I went ahead and bought your app to see if it would be different. The app looks great, but the same thing happened. Keeps on boot looping. So as of 10/26/2013, please announce to everyone that the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 is not yet supported. I froze all the Knox apps, I am rooted, and I used your app to try to change the display settings. I think you just have to get it to work for this tablet and you should be good. Also, the recovery method DOES NOT work. I kinda expected the app to crash the tablet, so I was glad that you introduced the recovery method. Tried it, but no, still did not restore default settings. If you need any assistance with trying to add this device to be compatible with the app, let me know. I can debug for you, help in anyway, etc. Thanks! Email me if you can. Great work.

I tried many many times to get this to work, it never changed the resolution on my phone screen and never changed it on my HDMI display, all it did was break the Samsung keyboard. I would very much like a refund.

Couldn't get a refund in 15 minutes after purcahse since had to root the device and lost time... My Samsung Note 10.1 2014 Edition wouldn't change the aspect rate to 16:9 (default 16:10). Instead, it bricks. Had to factory reset and re-install all apps from scratch. :(

This application causes a very serious bug with the above mentioned device in which inserting/removing the SD card or charger both instantly lock the device. Even factory resetting the device hasn't fixed this. HOWEVER, minus that bug the application works pretty well. I think it would be unjust of me to give a low score for a very device-specific bug.

I decided to use my nexus 10 to stream my pc screen and output it on my living room tv. I was shocked to see that output was laggy because the tablet had to output to the high res tablet screen and also hdmi out. This app has helped the tablet reduce processing power used by the tablet thus making the hdmi output really smooth !

It didn't work. I couldn't even get it to "apply and reboot".

The app does exactly what it says in the description. The interface is simple and easy to use.All in all it takes 20 sec to configure to your TV and then you can enjoy your media on big screen.I can easily recommend this app to all nexus 10 users.

M70%

Firstly, ensure KNOX is removed or uninstalled from your system; do make backups of it though, this can all be done using 'Titanium Backup'. Once youve done that, ensure TouchWiz is disabled/replaced by another launcher BEFORE implementing anything, i recommend 'GOLauncher'. You will then be able to change your resolution without any issues but dont play with the DPI settings as it leads to system crash. And finally if you want to go back to your default resolution, FIRST reset the res and only then change back to TouchWiz if you prefer that.

I have a Nexus 10, had horrible lag on Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition because of the 2560 x 1600 resolution. bought this, dropped to 1920 x 1200, no lag, still looks great. 10/10 Recommended.

Must have app for Nexus 10 and 16:9 tvs. Screen is now full and super crisp, before it was awful. Just select 16:9 in settings and reboot. Props to the devs

Great app, works perfect, missed HDMI settings on stock 4.2. This app is much better, very useful. Should be standard built in to omnirom. Great job dev, keep up the good work. Will tell all my friends brah.

First saw on xda and really wanted to try it out. A big negative is that there is no free/demo program. Need to address this before falling could of xda rules.

Hi, I'm struggling to get the HDMI resolution changed. When I plug in the Cable it reboots but hangs on the loading animation until I unplug the cable. I have the custom HDMI res' set to 720. I have joined the XDA thread so i hope i can help provide constructive feedback.

I have a couple of apps that display minute text as they don't take the screen resolution of the nexus 7 into account. Destination entry on copilot is an example. Changing the screen resolution has saved me from needing to replace copilot which would be expensive. Thank you.

I don't write many reviews but this one deserves one - it has officially made my NEXUS 10 a beast! I was hesitant to pay the cost but it's so worth it! it flawlessly detects my OUTPUT/TV ratio - I can now watch my videos on my TV using the WHOLE RATIO! highly recommended - don't hesitate do it!! would buy again.
