About iFootpath - UK Walking Guides with GPS Map

Modern Walking Guides in the Palm of Your Hand

"Great app - been looking for a good walking route app for years."

"This app has totally changed my life, I absolutely love it."

"Great walk, instructions were very detailed, perfect!"

With more than 1,000 detailed and mapped UK digital walking guides (May 2017) the iFootpath App, along with its partner website iFootpath.com, has been created to inspire people to get out and enjoy beautiful walks across the UK.

You can check out the coverage of walks before you buy - visit iFootpath.com. New walks are added every week.

From town trails to riverside strolls and countryside rambles, we are building a library of walks for everyone to enjoy - be it alone, with your dog or with family and friends. There are pub walks, city walks, waterside walks, hill walks and coastal walks with something for all abilities, from 1 mile to 14 miles long. The counties with the most walking guides include Surrey, Yorkshire, Sussex, Berkshire, Derbyshire, Cheshire, Hampshire, Suffolk, West Midlands, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Dorset and Staffordshire but all counties in England have some walks to enjoy.

iFootpath is different. Of course it does provide the ability to collect and share GPS map data but that's only the start. The walking guides are beautifully presented and enhanced with richer information optimised for walkers & hikers - descriptions, turn by turn instructions, photos, access information (stiles, gates, terrain, livestock…) historical notes, audio snippets, maps showing the GPS trail, what to see along the way and the author’s insight into what makes each walk great.

Key features include:
EXPLORE (The walk library is still growing. UK walk availability varies regionally. Please check the website for coverage details)
- Download any of the digital walking guides from the store (all free) to take with you
- Find walks near your current location, by town/postcode, by county or by key word
- The walk introduction tells you everything you need to know before you set out (access information including stiles and other obstacles, livestock, climbs, terrain plus how to find the starting point)
- While following the walk, your experience is facilitated and enhanced with photographs, turn by turn instructions, descriptions of the area, audio snippets, historical notes and points of interest
- Avoid any wrong turns by following your real-time progress on the live map
- Works even without mobile signal coverage as walking guides are stored on your phone
- Add your own photos and comments about the walk, and read other people’s experience
- Tag walks as Completed and Favourite on the App and website, to keep track of the walks you have walked and the walks that you love

CREATE
- Track your own walking route and see your route drawn live on the map while you are on the move
- Keep tracking your route while using other apps or phone functions
- Upload your route to iFootpath.com where you can use the bespoke visual GPS editor to correct any errors, add additional waypoints, reorder waypoints or extend the track to perfect your route
- Add photos and full descriptions on the website and then share with the iFootpath community, family and friends

Notes:
Continued running of GPS in background can dramatically reduce battery life.
iFootpath is based in the UK and is currently UK only

Can't get the app to login and can't access the website directly either. App says there is a server error. Was looking forward to using it for the first time today to find a walk for my newly arrived dog. Please fix asap.

I especially like the map function that tells you where you are. More walks please!

V70%

Used the app for the first time yesterday when a group of us walked the ranmore circular route. The built-in map helped us to stay on the course for a few times. That was the main benefit to me and was what I have always wanted. The UI looks average though, hence not 5 star. Don't feel like an app. A bit like a web page. In particular, I would like to have the textual guidance in larger font, even if it means I have to scroll down. Overall a decent app and have been useful. Well worth the cost of £1.99.

I really like this app. Crisp clear directions and a map with your position, so you can check if you are going wrong. It's liker insider info from a local: delightful walks, well packaged. It has helped me have gorgeous walks in areas unknown to me, without needing to buy an OS map.

Love this App. Easy to use and has a huge library of walks. The interactive map is a real win. The search function could be a little more user friendly. Would definately recommend to both experienced walkers and those just starting out.

Great app, find lots of lovely walks or add your own

Fantastic app with great walks

Q70%

First walk was great but then couldn't find any more walks... Had to logout, login before new all walks showed up again, this was somewhat frustrating! Anyway once the walks had 'reappeared' was very pleased with it again..

R70%
by R####:

First attempt seemed promising, until I saved my first walk. I was asked after saving it did I want to save it again... I said no and lost it completely, this was when trying to exit the walk page... Very disappointed and dents my confidence in using it. Will give it another go hoping for better luck.

Brilliant dog walking app, great walks, easy to follow with pictures. Allows you to search avoiding livestock, roads etc. Great set out if features and you can track and add your walks for others. No. 1 walking app.

I love this app!. I use all the time to plan my walks, during my walk and even find new ones!. Its quite detailed in describing each walk and along with a map , means it perfect!. Id be lost without it!

E70%

Superb app. Discovered so many walks just a few miles from my house. Highly recommended to those who love the outdoors. A big thank you from me, and a huge "woof" from Crystal the happy Staffy!

R70%
by R####:

I wrongly assumed this app would show me local rights of way, I wanted to go places I hadn't been before, unfortunately it only shows set walks that people have uploaded. This wasn't clear before purchasing. Ok for what it is, but no use to me.

Used once, will be using again, directions spot on, fab app.

Great app, lots of walks up here in Yorkshire. Plenty suitable for boys 5-9.

I have used this App since April 2016 and have managed to walk more miles than you can imagine, because of this App. I download and print off the walk I fancy doing and away I go. It has given me the confidence to venture out on my own and at no point have I got lost, as this fantastic App shows you where you are and where you have been and if you are on track. I have now started to take my friends out, with the confidence that I only need to glance at the map, second time around. I plan to venture further afield in the Spring and take a break away in a different County.

Q70%
by Q####:

The walks on here are great but the app is poor. The current version forces you to constantly log back in again after tapping out. The main use for this app is using it to navigate the walk and this has always been a bit frustrating to do. The interface could be a lot more intuitive. Also currently all the walks have disappeared.

Q70%
by Q####:

This App is brilliant! I can now go wandering around the countryside without the fear of getting lost or turning up in a field of cattle. There are no unpleasant surprises here, just miles & miles of excellently explained walks. Love it!

Q70%
by Q####:

The idea is great and much appreciated. The implementation is quite lacking though: - ratings untrustworthy if the number of raters isn't mentioned. 1 low rater is meaningless; 10 low rates is a truth. Also impossible to see why the raters chose their rating - couldn't find a way to view comments or photos of a route before downloading it. Makes finding a path to walk out of several choices tedious - couldn't find a quick way to get driving distance to a path without manually switching to a navigation app - couldn't find a way to filter search results by difficulty, distance, length, season, children friendliness - would be great to see more photos of a path when previewing it (allow users to add their own)

A great app. Love the pics at junctions. Loads of walks all over so usually one nearby. Brill. Addition: Also remarkably quick & helpful response to an emailed query.

A brilliant app. It continues to be updated and more walks added the description are accurate, so easy to use.

A great idea, unfortunately poorly implemented.

I went on my first walk on ifootpath the directions were spot on great app

Q70%
by Q####:

Excellent clear and accurate directions. Having the map makes this foolproof.

B70%
by B####:

I downloaded this hoping it would give my footpaths locally and it only has main paths which are well signposted and maintained I needed the other so well documented ones and this just doesn't do the job so no good at all. You think with a name like footpath it would cover all of them not just the big ones which are well covered and travelled.

Q70%
by Q####:

This is a terrific app for all who enjoy walking. The walks are fully described with text and photos and the live map shows your real time progress - a great aid to not getting lost! The available walks cover most of Britain and more are added regularly. This is an indispensable app for all who enjoy rambling. And the development team are the most responsive and helpful that I have ever encountered.

K70%
by K####:

A good application that could be improved by having a navigation aids/link to find the walks

O70%
by O####:

It should only request GPS lock when using things like be map section, otherwise it is a heavy drain on battery, even when the app is in he background.

U70%
by U####:

A fantastic app that I've used several times to plan and navigate walks both in areas I'm familiar with and places I've never been. It's very stable and easy to use.

X70%
by X####:

Only got the app today and tried it out on a walk. It all seems very good

U70%
by U####:

Seems good enough app tho there doesn't appear to be many walks in Scotland ?

U70%
by U####:

Would give it 5 stars however it has stopped allowing me to download walks

U70%
by U####:

Really easy to find nearby walks and the descriptions make sure they are suitable for you (or push chair/wheelchair friendly). Also good support from the developers via the Facebook group.

U70%
by U####:

Having downloaded and browsed the app but not been on a walk yet, I like the look and feel, and the basic functions you'd expect appear to be present. Would be nice to be able to cross-reference map features like pubs and stations in the search, but that can come later. Just one irritation is the way the map is set to min zoom each time you open it- surely it should default to a (say) 10 mile radius and then remember your last view? I look forward to seeing things improve with time...

Lots of useful stuff here for the walking community. A good range from a half hour wander to a whole day out!

Great little app, very user friendly. Backed up by a good website, and support. Good facebook group too. Walking brought into the modern era! The info about places on the walks so far, have been interesting and up to date. Well done.

Just down loaded this app, Wifi on, gps on, it can find my location and i know it lists walks nearby because i've seen them on the web site, but not a single map to be found when on the app??? Any clues as to how I can find them ?? Everything finally loaded after earlier glitch so uprated my review to 4 stars, some great little (this is why only 4 not 5) walks and very easy to use, the route follower is a great bonus feature

Connected to Internet. Location turned on. Nothing will load. No maps. No nearby locations.
