About Ottawa Nav

Ottawa Nav is a first of its kind connected city platform allowing real time, zone based communication between the City of Ottawa and its citizens. This platform is managed using an administrative console controlled directly by City of Ottawa employees.

With a current emphasis on traffic, you get live camera, road and traffic information from a 2.5 or up to 100 kilometre radius, depending on your distance of travel. A unique zone centric navigation mode further helps in passing on information while on the go.

With zones, the City of Ottawa has turned every area to a smart space, catered to finding information easily, personally and instantly. For example:

At Parliament Hill? Check out their zone to see when they're open, history about our country, and exciting events going on.
Near one of our great museums? Check out their zone to access their apps, opening times, and interesting exhibits.
In a city zone? Check out traffic cameras and events, plus other services such as OC Transpo and Pay by cell relevant to the zone you’re in.

Look forward to more zones being created around the city.

Ottawa Nav is an all Canadian connected city partnership is made possible using the award winning Flybits technology in collaboration with the City of Ottawa and Ryerson University.

Thank you for choosing Ottawa Nav. It is a central information hub for everyone in our great city. For support and feedback, please contact us at ottawanav@flybits.com.

Stay tuned for new and exciting features in the future.

What are users saying about Ottawa Nav

Just like the others said, crashes each time you run a search. If you use the predefined categories (which don't help me) the app seems a bit more stable. Why is this advertised on the OttawaNav website?

C70%
by C####:

Whoever made this junk app should be fired. Provides no value added info, various crashes and made me mad. Just delete this, I'm better off listening to the radio than try using this!

Useless, works for one mth then stops working for weeks.... This is the third time this has happened in less than a year. Uninstall time, there are better apps for traffic.

R70%

I'm sure this app will get better with time. An idea would be crowd sourcing the traffic and construction locations.

Rather than try to figure out how to get it calm down, I've uninstalled it. Plus, the UI was incredibly sloppy and frustrating.

Great app

Not well laid out, very clumsy. I prefer some of the other apps for Ottawa traffic cameras. Hugely disappointed in this "thrown together" app. Every time the app starts, it tells me no GPS detected. If I wanted it enabled, it would be already, and I certainly don't need a reminder each and every time. I know this is v1.0, but honestly it could have been so much better. I prefer the Ottawa Traffic Cameras app. It's less clumsy, and actually does a better job for my needs. It is less polluted, while offering flexible settings.

This is a quality app from our city and probably the best out of any city in Canada, maybe even NA... The map has camera overlays, driver and passenger modes, notifications for delays, etc etc. I don't know how much better this app can get. Really well done.

its 8:50AM im looking at camera at riverside and its pitch black out - its a frame from last night...why? thought this was real time traffic feeds? completely useless if this is how it works

T70%
by T####:

No camera overlay setting on navigation map, zone map only displays selected camera, map freezes returning from menu, cameras should display compass direction. Route planning function...? Look elsewhere...Poor effort overall.

C70%
by C####:

Really has no value in its current state. The City wants motorists to stop using mobile apps when driving yet they release an app that encourages it.

Can not find away to exit! Keeps sending push notifications. Great app when needed.

Every tab says pull down to refresh but nothing will refresh just old alerts from days ago... When its working I like that it alerts you when incidents have cleared but after a week of use i still got caught in construction traffic that it didnt pick up on. Like most of Ottawas traffic and transit ideas, a nice idea but execution is lacking. Hopefully future updates will help. Until then ill likely rely on google maps.

Why do I need an account for a traffic app? Get back to me when you remove that requirement!

Enjoying the app. Just updating my review with feedback and questions after initial use. 1) On my Android Phone, the back button doesn't work as expected. Too often it exits me from the app when I just want to go back one screen 2) That long disclaimer that pops up and forces me to select Driver vs Passenger mode every time is annoying and makes it less safe to use in the car as I have to select Driver every single time. Better to have a check box to save my choice. 3) Sometimes while driving the map changes from a readable map, to a blurry map with wide yellow lines where the road usually is. Is this intentional? 4) I've used it twice Looking at my data usage, it showed 9mb. Is this typical? Or just initial usage because you have to load the maps to my phone. I won't be able to use this app regularly if it consumes this much daily. 5) How much warning does it give for an accident? Just 2km? Ideally I'd like as much warning as possible on my typical commute so I can re-route. Only 2km notice and it will be too late to adjust 6) How exactly do you determine real time road congestion? Are you pulling real-time data from users of this application?
