Flint - Accept Credit Cards for Android
Even the EMV chip won't prevent a transaction from being charged successfully so I don't have to buy, carry, charge or lose an expensive reader to make a sale! I love that Flint takes care of invoicing, too and even reminds the customers who have forgotten to pay! I've deleted all other payment apps because I have found the superior one! The ONLY problem I am running into on my Android device is that Flint stops unexpectedly when edting the custom invoice appearance.
It was great for awhile. I used it for my business. But now they're going through some changes and now it doesn't work. It keeps dating that my account had been suspended. Doesn't even give me a reason. Until they get things up and running I'm just going to rate them a 1 star.
Still waiting on them to deposit over $500 in payments to my account. Some orders are 3 weeks old. They emailed me and said it would be two days. Its been two weeks. Now they aren't responding at all. I still have to give my clients their merchandise because they were charged. I'm losing money. I feel scammed...I'm so upset!!
When Flint first came out it was quick, easy, reliable and cheap. Since partnering with Stripe it periodically doesn't work and customer service for each company just continually refers to the other. I now pay higher fees yet have an issue with it at least once a week.
I tried to use this app in a number of different settings and there was always some new glitch. Payment issues make customers uncomfortable. I need an app that works the same every time. They also need to prominently display their transaction fee.
I am in the same boat as another review. I am a hairstylist and I have an android phone. I have contacted customer service twice about not being able to enable the tip option. Nothing has been done yet so I have been using square. I would prefer flints lower % but tips are a huge part of my income I do not want to lose!
I was shocked in February like most of you, to find out Flint was disappearing into the sunset. But Flint found a way to keep their app accessible to us by partnering with Stripe for payment processing. Yes, the fees are higher than before, but the per transaction fees are still better (for me) than the additional "standard" monthly or annual fee charged by some other companies. I love the invoicing feature, but currently seem to be having trouble with the card scanning feature. Hope to get it working again
Transactions completed in seconds. Clients love the simplicity on their end if invoice was emailed to them. Win Win! Only concern is NOT able to talk to someone and TWICE emailed for answers, got no response back. Sometimes need answers quick!
Flint used to work well most of the time. Customer service is responsive. Even after doing everything customer service tells me to do, days later all my attempted transactions are declined. One actually went through but showed declined on my phone. Bad for business. I feel totally frustrated and ready to ditch Flint for another service.
Only thing that I don't like is that you can't call them directly. If there is an issue you need to deal with it via email or online chat. Other than that it is a great app!
Wasn't able to link my bank account. Now it doesn't even give me the option to link a different account, all while my payments received are sitting in my Flint account and I can't touch any of it. Really upset.
Cannot reach anyone ever on the customer service phone line, it's always busy. When I need a situation resolved I can't wait days until they are ready to finally address my issue.
Does not save items for sale (details typed in) and had a sale in-process for an hour and was unable to interrupt it with the crappy app. Never had any problems with square so will go back to using that. Square also notifies the business owner via email when a deposit is being made...it's a mystery with flint.
I Google "how to take credit card payments with a smart phone" and this app comes up with good reviews and a nice looking website. I download this app only to see I can even use it. What is the point? put this on your website that you are "working on something new" I'm not keeping an unworkable app on my phone. very disappointing. bait and switch.
Needs to have phone contact, log and keyboard memory predictive text or writting. So you don't have to stop copy and paste when doing receipts or invoices. Please modify. Then I will give the app a five.
It doesn't always do what you tell it to do! I can't make a customer wait 15 minutes or ask them to check their email to confirm receipt... Also you have buttons for cash and check. How do those work? I should be able to scan a check and have the funds deposited to my account!
I have used Flint for my business all of 2015 with not many complaints. I just found out there are no available reports to see what my gross sales, net sales and fees were. I still have yet to receive a 1099 and after many attempts to contact customer service I still can't get through. Apparently you need go online to schedule a callback from customer service. I scheduled twice, both times no one called which was so frustrating.
This app meets all my business needs. Only thing I would change is the tipping option. I think it needs some tweaking I can't get mine to stay on $ instead of percentage.
This app was great until today. . .I was checking out a customer out and the app stopped working mid-transaction. I had to use a coworkers app to check out I updated earlier today and now not working . . .really thinking about switching over to the square
No services for a whole week now and can't talk to a human.
They have increased their rates dramatically without letting you know. There is now a usage fee of .30 plus an almost 3% fee. Square is now far less expensive. Flint went from being a great and convenient way to accept credit cards to being the most expensive. Plus no more phone support. Do not use.
I am so so so sad that Flint has tanked. So highly reviewed and novel in its approach of using the camera on the phone and no external equipment. Loved this app, the rates and ease of use, but can no longer justify using it since they gave no warning to suspending card transactions with no indication of when (or if?) they would be up and running again. Ugh. I am now Square.
I've used flint for over two years now and they used to be great! Worked consistently and the customer service would answer the phone and solve problems in real time. Lately, the app is garbage, the backend management is buggy and the costumer service is horrible! I'm taking my business elsewhere and I highly suggest you avoid this app!
Loved it at first.. Worked a week or two...Then the declines started, and now it won't take anything.. customer services says they are looking into it, but two days and no change. This app is costing me money now since it wont process a card. Forced to use square... At least its reliable.
Flint stopped card processing, no longer in business, don't sign up... clients got a message from Flint this week informing us that they were halting CC processing at this time... can not be contacted for questions, has no date to be up and running again, guess we all go back to Square... worst customer service ever, don't be fooled!
Used to be great. Had multiple declines this week. Looked the fool in front of a client. No response from email support. Can no longer call. Ridiculous that they made changes in app and fees and didn't tell their users.
Was a great app, not now. Services halted and no true update. I waited to see what changes they were making and if known I would've went elsewhere asap. Signing up somewhere else, I recommend you also
It worked for a year + then stopped. As a hairstylist it's unprofessional and embarrassing to have to make clients run to the ATM to get cash to pay because a credit card app just stopped. No customer service or anything. Then an email comes saying they are combining with another company-Stripe-and charging even MORE money than Square is. Of course I've already switched by then because I run a business and deserve to get paid for it. Unlike these people.
I had the unfortunate event of experiencing a Charge back on my account. Customer Purchase Oct 29th 2015 which I did a carbon copy of credit card receipt showing card number and customer signature. The customer disputed the charge Dec 7th 2015 at which time Flint withdrew funds from my account +$10 fee without even investigating first. I faxed my proof of purchase 3 times because they could not find it in their system. Upon calling to check on status in one phone call I was told that The Charge back was being reversed and after 2 weeks I called back because the funds were not deposited and then I was told that the customers bank refused the transaction and flint could not do anything about it. Even after providing proof of purchase flint refused to reimburse my account. Absolutely Ridiculous
Flint has mostly been excellent. I wish the app would update automatically, It's annoying to be processing a transaction and have it not work. Customer service has been helpful and prompt.
I've used Square, I've used PayPal, but Flint trumps them both. Easy to use, quick deposit, customizable receipts, invoicing, etc, etc. If they added EFT (electronic funds transfer) from checking accounts then it would be over the top, and in the 6 Star territory.
I have been in business for over 35 years and used many merchant processing companies. All of them had a multitude of discount fees and monthly statement fees. Flint is a simple, straight forward flat rate. The entire Flint experience has been a fast, easy to use system. One feature I wanted with any company I do business with is to be able to talk to an actual person if a problem needed to be resolved. I've had very few reasons to contact support.
I'm a hair stylist, and tips are a big part of my business. No matter how many times I enable tips, it will not save that setting. ios doesn't have this problem. Customer service recognizes that this is a known issue, but it's not a big enough one to warrant having a timeline when this vital feature is to be fixed. Waited 2 months, no fix. Bye Flint!
It says, something went wrong, try again. I have tried on the app multiple times, I have tried the website, still the same thing. I guess Flint doesn't want my business.
Opened an account over a week ago and has never worked. Customer service phone number connects you to a robot that tells you to go to website and then hangs up on you. Website sends you in circles. No response from customer service emails for days. No clear way of cancelling account. I can't believe how much time this has wasted for me and my business and now having to contact clients to try and get checks from them instead.
No phone customer support. Time consuming emails back and forth to figure out issues. No card swipe and the photo capture feature rarely works forcing one to manually input card info. Transactions have long processing times. Transactions come back unauthorized forcing client to figure out another form of payment. Then later to find out transaction did go through and customer was double charged. Large amounts of money failed to be deposited due to failure of communication that another company needs tax
Flint is awful. I'll just put that out there first. If you're debating between this and Square, you should probably try thr other one first. I haven't used Square, but I can't imagine it can be any worse. I run a PC repair service through Thumbtack, and every transaction I make through Flint triggers a "chargeback," or, in other words, your hard earned money is stolen back. It seems that credit card companies do not think Flint is a legitimate service, and I place that blame squarely on their shoulders
Worst app. Poor customer service. Enter all my personal information. Go to charge a client and I'm told she cannot make payment. Ask customer service and they say I CAN'T use the service for my business. I'm a caterer. Now they have all my info, I cant use the service, and they wont tell me why. DON'T USE! SAFETY HAZARD!
I can accept payments from anywhere and at anytime, then email receipts to clients at the end of the transaction. I love that this app helps avoid late payments, penalties and policy cancellations for customers, regardless of where either of us is when the payment comes due. Funding is overnight, so I have peace of mind knowing that I can advance payment to the insurance companies immediately.

Old version-was very easy to use, however sometimes it may take what seems a minute to process, but really it's not. Customer is sometimes a little apprehensive about the scan but will do it because of your business reputation. I have not had any payment problems from Flint as of the date of this review. User since May 2015. Another review pending upgrade....
