About Skiing Strength & Conditioning

Skiing events are very physically demanding and focus on very distinct muscle groups. This program works on getting your body in top shape so that you are able to maximize your performance. This program focuses on the following:
The body formations that provide the best combination of balance, stability, control, and speed are ones that require high levels of power. Enhanced performance also requires a strong musculoskeletal system as a way to protect against acute and overuse injuries that seem all too common in this skiing.
Focuses on the Following Training Methods
- Complete lower body development focuses on muscles used when skiing
- Forceful contractions of the quadriceps and hamstrings muscles
- Upper body development (for pole plants)
- Mobility and flexibility training
- Ankle, tibial muscles of the shin
Alpine skiers show tremendous strength when performing isometric and slow muscle concentric contractions. Muscle-activity patterns in the slalom and giant slalom events have been found to contract at the same time, a condition known as the "quasistatic" component of skiing. For speed events where there are fewer turns over a longer period of time, the quasistatic component will be even greater. This app highlights both.
