About Karate Katas - Form Routines
This is just one of several MMA apps - part of the MMA membership.
This app features three Karate Katas for beginners, intermediate, and advanced athletes.
Katas are used to evaluate one's form and technique. If one is able to master the routines then they are able to advance forward in the program to a more challenging Kata.
Each workout breaks up the Kata into multiple parts so you are able to understand the movements and then practice each.
Earn a white belt all the way up to a black belt by mastering some of these routines!
If you are learning Karate for exercise - this is the perfect method to lose weight, build muscle, and gain athleticism.
Focuses in App
Form - Form is something that you will be continually refining and perfecting. We recommend you practice each kata very slowly and concentrate on doing each technique with the proper checkpoints and correct application of principles. You can also use visualization techniques as well.
Power - Each movement of the legs, hips, shoulders, and arms (for punches) must work together to produce the maximum amount of force. The optimal timing and sequence of the motions comprising the techniques are critical. The program will help you concentrate on doing each move as forcefully as you can with the correct sequence of body parts.
Velocity & Speed - The program will require you to concentrate on staying “loose” -- with the goal of staying light and quick when practicing routines.
Eye Contact & Head Position - You will notice each workout will put an emphasis on practicing eye contact -- looking sharply on each turn and actually visualizing an opponent. Try to feel each block deflecting an attack and each strike making contact with an opponent you visualize in front of you.
Breathing - In the app, you will notice the demonstrator inhaling on the blocking techniques and exhaling on the striking techniques.
Rhythms - You will notice in the app that the full routine is broken down into series that seem logically connected. You will simulate the rhythm of an actual fight by varying the speed and pausing between each series.
