Mvelopes Budget App for Android
Kindly provide offline functionality. I am not able to use it as I am in located in very rural area where Internet connectivity is not available
Forces you to be disciplined with your spending. I didn't realize that you could go to the desktop version to change the names of folders. Not explained clearly on mobile version. I love the detailed pages showing money movement & you can quickly see when you need to put the brakes on spending, as long as you consult it before you pull out your debit card! Have not had the free consultation yet; I'm sure some of my questions could be answered then.
This is a simplified version of the web app - but is great for tracking and budgeting on the fly. After four years of experience with a paper budget, this is a real time saver. What used to take 2 solid hours at the end of each month now takes 2-3 stress free minutes a day. One minor limitation - it doesn't look like you can split transactions between envelopes on the mobile app. You would have to do that through the web version.
I really think this helped me budget. It took me a while to get use to the app but it was worth it. Now I'm more conscious of where my money is going. I like that i can choose which accounts to keep track of. Other apps i tried wouldn't allow me to select only certain accounts because they were at the same bank. I also really like the website. Makes it easy to access anywhere.
I've been using for 4 months. Been in communication with support. None of the bugs have been resolved. Just needs refinement. Works OK. UPdate: I just cancelled and received poor customer service. App simply doesn't work. Transactions disappear randomly while assigning an envelope. Try every dollar ...Better technology same price
It was fun at first until it asked for my bank account info and they started calling me. I personally don't trust apps with my bank info in case of a hack. As far as the calling, I'd like the option to opt out. I'm shy and don't enjoy people calling my number without my permission. Wish they would have warned me before I signed up. I can follow cues and already know how to budget on my own. I just wanted to try it while on my phone instead of a pen and paper. Finding another app and cancelling my account with Mvelopes.
Takes a little to figure it out but I like the envelope setup. Plus I can totally customize categories AND split transactions, something that is hard to find. On the down side, There aren't any reports or account overview or anything. And bank connect isn't as smooth as the Mint app...
Signup process is suspect. They have a preselected opt-in check box *below* the confirm button of the signup form. Hard to notice on a small screen. 5 mins after signup you get a phone call that among other things asks about your debt. Privacy fail. Opt-ins to discuss finances need to be true opt-ins, not obscured preselected check boxes. Uninstalling.
This has been so helpful in getting ahead with my finances! I have so much more peace of mind feeling in control of my money and knowing EXACTLY where it is. The app is easy to use on the fly! Only downfall is that not all accounts can be easily synced. However, I found customer service to be diligent in making things sync when there was a problem.
All is pretty great, however the app is better than the web based version. The web version works pretty great, but just looks a little old & in need of a fresh user interface. The only thing sort of missing to me is a bill scheduling function. If it had that, I'd definitely give it 5 stars
It is very helpful application. Great to manage personal budget. Key points. 1. We can view multiple bank accounts in single place. ( Do not need to login all institution to view transaction, balance). 2. Create your own budget. Follow your budget plan. 3. Create Mvelopes for all types of expenses. 4. Debt center. And many more......
The second I set it up I got a call from a telemarketer acting like the knew me saying I could still get a debt analysis from Mvelopes. Scandalous! So they really just want my financial information.
New features are being added regularly, not quite a desktop browser replacement, but getting very close. I have a few problems here and there, such as transactions not being removed from the inbox after assigning an envelope. But generally, as a long time user of mvelopes, the Android app has come a very long way.
This has been such a blessing to our family and finances for the past 8 or so years. Any issues we've had (which have been very few) have been solved by their great tech support. It's completely worth it!
This is the only budgeting app that works for me. I use it diligently to make sure I only spend what I have in the envelopes. The app has its quirks and sometimes syncing isn't reliable. When that happens I go online and do an account reconcile and I'm back on track.
Started by not letting me in to my new account and asking a lot of personal questions about passwords and other emails and account. Then I had the guy delete my account and I started over again. Now it says it cannot connect with my bank and again is asking a lot of information. This begins to sound like a scam, and I would caution people to look at your bank accounts very carefully after signing up for this app
The service is great but this app has some annoying bugs in it. It will lock up every time as you move from screen to screen....Sometimes for over 30 seconds. And you can never see historical transactions outside of the current month. It would be nice if these got fixed.
I love the push notifications. I don't have to remember to log in and categorize my expenses. Take the time to figure out the right budget categories and amounts for you and it will change your life!
Great tool for getting your budget working. Focuses more on day-to-day realities rather than complicated plans you can never stick to. Rated 3 stars because of several persistent UI issues that haven't been addressed, especially the extremely laggy experience when assigning items in the inbox (makes assigning a lot of charges very tedious)
Still needs work but much better than before. Tablet version need a lot of work in design layout and use of screen space. Needs to support automated transactions so that you never need to use the web interface
Great budgeting app. Based on envelope systems. Would be nice if you could setup biweekly budgets to align with pay periods though. The website isn't very good, but the app is quite well done. I also wish there was better reporting. All in all, great functionality to connect bank accounts, take pictures of receipts, and enter transactions that align with the envelope budget system. I would have paid for premium service to support them, but the price is too steep for a budgeting app. Should be between $40-$60 annually, but is $90.
The app worked well except the most important part of saving the budget. I constantly received a message saying it couldn't be saved at this time and try again. Which requires me to re-enter the budget only for it to continue to give me the error message.
I've tried nYNAB, Everydollar and Mvelopes. As much as I wanted nYNAB to work for me the anti-forecasting philosophy just doesn't make sense to me and is a deal killer. I found Mvelopes to be the most useful but the outdated UI and the use of flash as a platform makes the web app clunky and slow, it really needs a major update. The Mvelopes android app however is very well done.
I have been using this app for over a year and it has worked wonderfully until recently. It is now taking over a minute to assign one transaction. Really hope this issue is resolved as the app has been very helpful til now.
Would love to try the app, but it won't even add my Chase account. I'll try again to set it up, but so far I'm not having fun.
I love that my financial institution is linked and both my husband and I can keep track of our spending on the go. Customer support was great when I had a problem. Great app!
I am still trying to figure out this app. I think the concept is great and if there was more explanation tutorials it would be great. I am having trouble figuring out how to do things in the app.
This app isn't flexible enough. My income varies from month to month, and I pay rent once every three months, and this app doesn't seem to be able to deal with either of these situations. Account linking was a chore, but the most annoying thing is the forced landscape orientation.
I've used this daily for 5 years. Lately, it takes over a minute to assign one transaction to its envelope because each screen freezes. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and all the same problem. Please fix, this is very inconvenient.
Love this app as we've always struggled with cash envelopes system because of getting better deals online. Love the modern take with electronic envelopes! It's fairly easy to get started and very easy to use daily.
It's working okay so far. I wish I could see pending transactions to assign. I'm also not sure how to split up one transaction between envelopes. I'm hoping I can find a tutorial video to be more clear on how to do things within the app.
Promising. But glitchy. Love the concept & vision, but I would like to see them invest more into designers & developers of the app.
This app has made a lot of progress recently. Earlier versions were frustrating to use, but it's great now.
YET ANOTHER that wants money from you every month. No wonder these hopeless budgetters love this app - they don't know when they're being ripped off ! I will NEVER, EVER pay a subscription to anything except a traditionally-subscription service like a TV streaming service. NEVER, EVER EVER EVER !
Great except for those who are self employed and have income that varies greatly from month to month. Would love to have a weekly or better yet daily income option. Uninstalling to find something that works better for my circumstances.
I do envelope based budgeting and this is perfect for it. I did have to combine some of my envelopes bc there is a limited number in the free app but it is pretty great and I think paying monthly for a budgeting app defeats the purpose of budgeting.
This app does what I want: simply keep track of my spending based on criteria I assign to various categories. It links to my bank account so I don't have to manually enter info, but I stay involved by seeing and moving my spending numbers into virtual envelopes. Also it is said to roll unspent money into the next month, though I haven't experienced that yet. So far, so good-one week in.
Good mobile app, web client is clunky and less reliable. Easy to leverage power of envelopes concept
Once i made the effort to learn how to use this app it became indispensible to my financial life. Really helps keeps you in line if you commit. I don't like "budgeting" but this app is more of a conscious spending plan that accounts for every dollar that comes in and goes out using real-time online bank account info. Tons of support resources also.
