Sunset - Screen Filter for Android
It would be nice if there were "recommended" settings for opacity. Also, scheduled on and off times automatically turning the app on and off.
I bought this so I could read in the middle of the night with minimal effect on my sleep/wake cycle. Contrary to what's claimed, this app does not filter colors. Instead, it mixes a solid color of your choice with the entire screen. So rather than, say, black and white turning to black and red, as it would with a true red filter, instead you get a low contrast scheme: red and slightly darker red. The author's own screenshot (second one) shows what I mean.
I tried the Twilight free app and came back to Sunset. I don't care for ads and if I'm going to spend the money, I'd rather it go to true enthusiasts. Sunset works great for night sky watching. For those less knowledgeable about constellations may want to fire up your star map app to find out what you're looking at. Of course you don't want the bright screen to ruin your "already adjusted to the dark" eyesight. However any menu buttons located at the top of screen are partial blocked by a dark bar.
It is simple and just works better than any other blue light app.
This app is very good, but for me it's missing one key element and that is a widget control. It's easy enough to create a shortcut but that's roughly three clicks versus one. In an age of efficiency and haste, this to me is crucial.
The whole navbar at the bottom of every screen is not filtered. Painful. Further, you can't combine the darkness filter (dimming) with the color filters. Both of these are solved by an app called Twilight.
This app does everything I want it do and quite well at that. Only thing that bugs me is that the app doesn't have an icon. When I install it the app icon is the Android bug with the development box. Edit: fixed, awesome!
This does exactly what I needed. I wanted to use my phone during sky observing sessions and while my astronomy app does have a night mode I needed my lock screen and other apps to be dim as well. I still use another app to turn off my soft touch keys but that Samsung's problem I think (setting removed on note 5...).

Great
It could have some other convenient/automatic features like other comments have suggested.

Perhaps it's some limitation of Lollipop, but I really wish the navbar at the bottom of every screen was also affected by the filter. Further, I wish you could combine the darkness filter with the color filters. Still, I appreciate this.

I'm a backyard astronomer with my dad and this app is perfect for me to use while stargazing! The red filter is great and I love the other filters for lessening the amount of blue light and dimming the screen past the limit of the OS. I could never have access to an app like this on iPhone. The filter works in all your apps and on all your screens! Even the lock screen! Thanks again! !
Developers fixed problems speedily. Now that I've got a stable version, my eyes thank you. Could it be positive to get the app running in one button press?
Both Dark and Red are cool on their own, but would really like a filter that combines them for astronomy
Absolutely awesome for preserving night vision while sitting at the EP when the phone rings or a text comes in. So much better than a bunch of others that I have used. h/t to Universe Today for the referral!
The are few modes. The most useful in my opinion are red - supposed to preserve night vision and orange - supposed to make it easier to fall asleep after using device in the evening.
Trying to use star app and stopwatch function to time photos was killing my night vision. Thought there might be an app...sure enough this was exactly what I wanted.
Great

Would be so much better if you could combine the dark filter with the colors.
This is a must for anyone that uses their device at night. The only thing that would improve it is if you could use the brightness setting with the color settings together, rather than only one at a time
The app works well. But it would be nice to have a brightness control facility in the app itself. Another option would be to mix the Dark filter along with the hue filters (Emerald, Sunset, Red). Update 1: I found another app called Twilight which is free and does a better job. Reducing to Sunset's rating to 3 stars.
This app works just as it says. I can actually use my tablet at night without being blinded. I would love some scheduling as some other reviews have suggested.

I used to have a ROM that had a red filter stock similar to this red one. Ever since I changed ROMs about a year ago I have been on a search for a solid app for android that did this. Today I found it. Thank you. Makes the screen very easy on the eyes at night. Welllll worth the buck!
I love this app, its extremely useful, but it constantly crashes a few minutes after being activated.
Now my phone doesn't blind me at night
Exactly what I was looking for. Reduces the blues for late night browsing.

But seems to be an excellent app.

The icon doesnt show up in my launcher. It shows as the stock andy default emblem in launcher, not the pretty one displayed on Play. :/
Works as advertised. Was crashing every 30 minutes, but dev answered my email and fixed within 24 hours. Worth the .99

Great app, clean interface and works well. If it had a homescreen widget to enable your favourite setting, would be perfect!!
Comes in pretty handy when you know you're going to need to check your phone in a movie theater. Nobody wants to be THAT guy...
