Libro de los Salmos

La palabra “Salmo” proviene de un verbo griego que significa “tocar un instrumento de cuerdas”, y se utilizó originariamente para designar los cantos acompañados por ese instrumento. Este último se llamaba “Salterio”, pero más tarde el nombre perdió su significación original y comenzó a ser empleado como sinónimo de LIBRO DE LOS SALMOS.

El Antiguo Testamento contiene numerosos textos poéticos con características similares a las de los Salmos. Pero el tesoro de la lírica cultual y religiosa de Israel se encuentra fundamentalmente en el Salterio.
