Messenger Lite: Free Calls & Messages

It's definitely better than the bloated version. The one HUGE thing I miss though, is that it doesn't show if the person you're talking to is typing or not, like the other one does. I talk to my mom a lot via FB and she's a ridiculously slow typer. But sometimes she simply doesn't even reply. So I end up sitting there staring at the conversation, expecting a reply (eventually) and it never comes! Lol. Please at least implement that into this and it'll be almost perfect! :)

Does not drain battery as the much as the full version. But it is just a slimed app that always ask for you to install the full version. I just use this because I don't want the full version! Stop asking that stupid question.

So glad I can do away with all the useless junk from the main Messenger app. Some features missing I'd like added is custom notification sound, showing that the other person in the conversation is typing, and the coloured ticks instead of the words sent/delivered/seen. Inserting emoji through Gboard results in a box on the receivers end. Sadly there's no "what's new" when there's an update.

This is how the regular messenger should be, and everyone should switch over immediately. That said, this app doesn't use runtime permissions, which is not acceptable practices. It requests all the permissions, and requires none of them to function. Absolutely preposterous. Only saving grace is the permissions can be disabled manually.

It's not even listing in app list of my OnePlus 5. You have to goto play store, search for the app to open it. Absolutely rubbish testing team. And software design also foolish.

Better than the full version. Still no way to prevent showing as available/online to others when the app is open, so I avoid using it. I only installed it to stop Facebook from nagging me, and because a few friends only use Messenger.

since two updates previous, this app has completely stopped functioning at ALL. It just says "Loading Messages", which it never succeeds in loading. The best part is that I contacted the developers about the problem before the last update (and well over a week ago), and they STILL haven't fixed it!

I like the idea of it being narrowed down to less than 20 MBs while still being able to send your basic messages and call other people. One problem, doesn't work in Maximum Battery Saving Mode, despite it taking up less than 10% if being used for 1 hour.

Decided to give this version of Messenger a try because regular Messenger tends to eat up a lot of data and has so many features that I don't use or will never use. Plus I love how fast it is. Thinking of downloading the Facebook Lite app next.

I love this app a lot. It takes up less space in the phone than the regular messenger. I was wondering if you guys could add a video call feature to the messenger Lite. That would be nice. Please and thank you.

Why no SMS? What's the point of uninstalling the full Messenger, only to find I must use two apps instead of one (Lite and Messaging)? Seems senseless and it is VERY inconvenient, I have conversations that hop between the two as my son and I move in and out of mobile/wifi signal.

Obviously much better than the full app that is that bloated it kills ur phone...BUT...and it's a BIG BUT, why is it not compatible with older devices...you know, the ones that could really benefit from the slimmed down app. No, the brains at FB make the full blown version compatible while the lite only works on the majority of devices that don't need it! Do they have common sense in California?

I've never seen a more pointless app. Oh hey. Instead of making it possible to message using your browser we're going to attempt to shove a downgraded, useless new messaging app down your users throats. You almost had the perfect messenger with this. But noooo, let's not include SMS or MMS. Back to basic messenger.

Best chat app ever! Blazing fast, features rich, calling! Only one thing missing! Gif support.... I mean it's just one (big) step away from being perfect!

Should have the option to use messenger without having facebook just like the original messenger app has. Was a little upset I downloaded for nothing. I hate facebook but love messenger. Please fix.

Missed the old messenger, glad they brought it back. Would be 5 stars but the notification always says I have a new message, when I don't.

Trash at pushing notifications. Does not update with latest messages when I see them in FB messenger. A bit quicker and more minimal to the full messenger. But what is the point if I can't receive my messages.

Absolutely brilliant. Just like messenger but with ought all the unnecessary stuff that gets annoying. The only thing I miss is having the bubble thing on screen to click on. But it doesn't take away from the app. It's brilliant.

Stopped working entirely 9 days ago. No messages sent or received. Updated today, the new version gets stuck at "Loading messages". Edit: fixed it by deleting all app data and relogin. Now all my contacts are spammed with "just joined Messenger" messages.

This has gotten a 1 star, for one, I installed this app to try it out, I attempted to login with my credentials and now it's has locked me out of my account and now once again due to unusual activity, I have to upload a photo once again to prove myself and have to wait till who knows when it will get unlocked. The your gonna want my photo ID and such. I've sent you my photo, I will change my review if my account can be unlocked less than 8 hours.

I can't believe how much faster it is than regular messenger. Battery life and phone performance has noticeably improved too. Had no idea the original was so bloated.

I love this so much. I left a review on the original messenger a while ago after the updates adding unnecessary games and "my day" snapchat ripoff stuff saying that if Messenger was turning into a space hogging snapchat gaming app, I wanted a lite version, and I have it now and love it. I am missing the chat head that can open over other apps, and I wouldn't mind being able to set nicknames and chat colors, but being free of all the unnecessary buttons is much more pleasant than I even imagined...and I imagined it a lot. Thank you for making this app!

Stars for the slimmed down app. Reduction of stars for lack of a dark theme. For a company which seems to know everything there is about everyone in the FB ecosystem, you seem clueless to understand how many of us want a darker theme so we don't burn out our retinas if we need to send a message at zero-dark-30. Get a clue! I think I'll Uninstaller and wait for an available dark theme.

Uninstalled full Messenger because I have no use whatsoever for all those games, stickers, groups or videos or whatever, I just wanted chat heads without bloating up my storage, why do you have to release such a useless "lite" app? You have two complete extremes when it comes to messenger, either you get all of the features, even the ones that you never use, or you get zero features whatsoever in an app coded for phones running Froyo (2.3)

+ Faster than bloat version - @name doesn't work - Not possible to edit typos - No likes on specific messages - Horrible image compression I only use Messenger for intern coms at work, it's a real pain to use. I would recommend Telegram instead, way more user friendly and faster.

I don't know when this became a thing, but I should've found it sooner. It literally fixes every problem I had with the original messenger app, which was mainly just being too slow. This one's definitely not as featured of course, but runs WAY better. I like it better than the original to be honest. Mostly the same functions except less than 1/10 the size and RAM it takes up. 5 stars all the way

It would've been 5 stars if you fixed this bug. It keeps showing me that I have a message when I actually dont. After clicking it, it shows no new message. Not even in filtered message or message request. After few seconds or minutes, it will notify me again showing nothing

I've purposely used an outdated version of Facebook and Messenger for about a year now because both apps have just gotten bloatier and cluttered with features I have no use for, like Marketplace, a live video feed, and Stories. This is a brilliant idea, a step in a wonderful direction. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make a Facebook Lite if there isn't already one. I'm BEGGING you.

The only Facebook app I will rate. Just because it doesn't have all the bullsh*t features. I just want an app that does messaging and no stickers, games, etc. At least Facebook got something kinda right here! Now just make the Facebook app no battery hog :)

I like it... Really don't like all the bloated features that were added to Facebook over the years. I miss the days when messenger was packaged in with the Facebook app. Can we also get a slimmer version of the Facebook app? Wow, I just uninstalled the main version of Facebook messenger... Aannd all of the sudden my phone is running much faster....

Excellent idea and sorely needed; normal Messenger was always big, bloated with features and constantly slowing down my phone (I have a Pixel and even that was slowed down). It's a little ugly compared to some other messaging apps but if you don't use Messenger a lot it's fine.

i have long resisted from installing facebook app and messenger because of privacy concerns. i do not even have chat turned on. i downloaded messenger lite, denied it all permissions, then signed in. and what did facebook do? sent message to everyone that i downloaded messenger.

Craps all over regular messenger. Stripped back to the only thing I actually use messenger for - sending messages. Thanks for doing this for those of us who don't want all the other stuff!

Close, but no donut! It's good to see a non-bloated version of this app, but the cutting back of the features goes too far. I can live without the ability to sent GIFs, but when you receive a URL you can't click on it to open the link. Which is the dumbest thing ever. If you want a good secure messaging platform, then I recommend Signal. It integrates with your contacts and you can use it as the replacement for the default Messaging app in Android, because it also does regular SMS.

It's great how much smaller it is and with all the ram it saves but it's really bare bones. Lacking features. No gif support, no customization options, Seriously I think everyone in the world is sick of that shade of blue.

I use this app only because it doesn't have all the annoying features that the main messenger app has. I don't like stories and all the other bad features that got added.

Ever since the update my messages have been delayed or not received. I get them on the fb lite app but not on the mmsgr lite app. I have to keep clearing my apps to reset it to get it to work again.

It just work great , i loved its user interface. Its a lot simple and easy to use. Users with mobile of low memory and less ram i suggest you to use this app as it work just great. One thing i hope to get in the next update is the video call function.

Great straight up messenger app. I hate the standard messenger app with a passion, it's sooooo bad. But this one strips all the dumb stuff nobody uses anyway and just makes it a great simple messenger. Really good!

App is very light and too much fast but there is one problem. in messenger there is my 25 friends online it's Actual in new messenger lite there is on 9 friends are online... so here is not showing actual how many persons are active. showing very less
