Reading Practice Test Sections
The Academic Reading test is 60 minutes long.
There are 3 sections. The total text length is 2,150-2,750 words.
1] Each section contains one long text.
2] Texts are authentic and are taken from books, journals, magazines and newspapers. They have been written for a non-specialist audience and are on academic topics of general interest.
3] Texts are appropriate, and accessible, to test-takers entering undergraduate or postgraduate courses, or seeking professional registration.
4] Texts range from descriptive and factual to the discursive and analytical.
5] Texts may contain non-verbal materials, such as diagrams, graphs or illustrations.
6] If texts contain technical terms, a simple glossary is provided.
Question types
A variety of questions is used, chosen from the following types: multiple choice, identifying information, identifying writer’s views/claims, matching information, matching headings, matching features, matching sentence endings, sentence completion, summary completion, note completion, table completion, flow-chart completion, diagram label completion, short-answer questions.
Reading practice test - IELTS Academic
You will be allowed 1 hour to complete all 3 sections of the IELTS Academic Reading test.
The three parts of this practice Reading test are presented over three separate web pages. Make sure you move swiftly from one page to the next so that your practice is as realistic as possible.
Time yourself and allow just one hour to complete all three parts.
There are 40 questions in this practice paper. Each question carries one mark.

Instructions to candidates
In the actual test you will be given the following instructions:
1] do not open this question paper until you are told to do so
2] write your name and candidate number in the spaces at the top of the page
3] read the instructions for each part of the paper carefully
4] answer all the questions
5] write your answers on the answer sheet; use a pencil
6] you must complete the answer sheet within the time limit
7] At the end of the test you will be asked to hand in both the question paper and your answer sheet.
