Slice Planner for Android
To resonate with the community, the aspect of this app (use of AR with the notebook) doesnt not work. To the point that its frustrating to even think about using this app. I sincerely hope that the developers will release an update to fix tge issues. You promised a product you should deliver. The notebook and app are promising, lets get it there. PS. I used the app on an iPhone and it recognizes some events (not all) and it doesnt detect titles.
Kickstarter backer here, I've read the manual, AR scanning not working; Kickstarter page full of comment from other backers that confirm AR scanning isn't working for them either. I regret backing this project! Edited 03/15/17: AR mode still won't add events to my calender, and cropping still broken
Next to useless in its current form. Getting it to recognise the page is an exercise in frustration, even in a well lit environment with a contrasting background. I am yet to have it recognise the date in the centre of the diagram, requiring manual entering of date. Even the recognition of text and events on the page is a hit and miss affair, and even then manual linking of event and description is required. With the time and effort required to get a simple event into your calendar, it's easier to just enter it directly in your calendar. Certainly not the seamless experience we were promised. And yes, I have read the manual, followed it to the letter, and tried other methods also, to no avail. On another matter though, the associated physical notebook is pretty good.
One of the worst apps I have ever used. I feel like I have paid for an overpriced book. The app was supposed to be the star and it had severely let me down. It is downright frustrating how bad the user interface is. Wish it worked, concept was good in theory
For a brand new program and product that isn't even truly out on the market yet, its good. It's useful and has beautiful design. Needs a widget and some work. My wishlist: a true 24 hour clock like in the military, customization features, integration with Evernote, easier scanning to Google cal...and a widget (LOVE widgets)
Scanning is too sensitive to phone movement. It should just auto snap a photo and have the user correct it with cropping as pushing the button often messes up alignment. The boxes for text are too high. They should be able to be scaled down to the distance between dots on the grid. The app OCR is awful. It literally does not pick up text that all other OCR apps pick up. I feel like the app should be able to detect a line from an event on the calendar and draw a text box around what is written on the line (user can correct with cropping). I think it has tremendous potential if these things are fixed. Keep the updates coming and I'll revise review as features are added or fixed. Edit: doesn't even work anymore; they do not seem to want to fix this app judging by the zero updates.
App doesn't work at all. I have read all manuals and tips and watched all videos. Installed and tried and uninstalled and reinstalled. Love the planner. So excited for this to work but can't rate it highly until it works.
As a fellow Android Developer, I am rather disappointed by the app. It seems like a lot of work went into the app and it is visually well made and the integrations with the Google calendar work great, but the most important features are very broken. No matter what I try, including the event layouts in the marketing materials, the Android version of the app refuses to parse the text because it can't seem to find the connection to the corresponding event. I tried dashed lines, solid lines, you name it. It detects the text and the event regions, but can't find the line connecting them (100% failure rate for me). So I am stuck having to add in the names of my events manually. It also fails to properly read the date in the middle. 04 20 became 04 11 when the OCR picked it up. Really disappointing since I had such high hopes for this. The physical planner I was shipped is perfect, but the app is sadly barely usable. It's one of those situations where you have gotten 97% of the way there, but that last 3% is what really matters. Getting OCR working is essential for your product to even make sense.
Kickstarter backer. App by itself is solid - except for the Slice Planner loading screen. App with example pdfs do not work. App with notebook itself is frustrating. (Going into detail about bugs below - please let me know, devs, if you want details about it.) Cropping does not actually crop the preview image, but a flipped version of it. When I finally got my scan to recognize the events, was a hassle to resize text and delete them. (Please improve the UX for this.) When I just had the events set up, I kept getting prompted to sign into google - though I hadn't signed in for awhile. Email field when Google sign in has changed is replaced with Calendar name and could not be edited. I could not make titles because of this. The prompt continued to appear for untitled events when attempting to edit them. I also released the app didn't properly put these untitled events in the right date. (Granted - I understand text recognition could not be used due to not connecting to Google - it should at least default to today's date.) I spent more than an hour trying to figure out how to set up my events in my app from scanning the notebook. That would have taken 10 minutes just with the app itself. Overall, poor experience. The book is nice. The app is nice. But the app is free, and the selling point was definitely the integration of it working well in sync. The book and app together make for a horrible experience. Please fix the UX overall. I really want this app to work out since I love the concept.
Warning!! Does not scan and update the calendar. Only takes a picture of the page but does not have option to recognize writing and put into calendar. Would have to put everything in manually like any other calendar. There is no help phone number or way to contact them.
Great app guys just, are you planning on making a widget for the app and also how do I buy the book im in South Africa
One star only untill the bugs are fixed. The scan of the page works well 1 times of 3 and it wont recognize the diagram at all nor highlight the titles. As a backer I'm disapointed but hope i can give it better ratings soon. Tip to the creators - dont patronise your backers... fix the bugs instead. Also - add a user manual on the sliceplanner site, it will make it easier for users to check while trying to use to use the app.
Buggy and getting worse with each update. Using it on a Samsung Note 4 and 5, personal & work. Works initially for manual input, but loses appointments, doesn't show tasks unless you click on the task time, and amended times don't save. Have yet to get a picture version to work other than showing conflicts because after you take the photo, regardless of orientation, it rotates it to +90' and crops it to the rh square of the rectangle, ie only half the diagram which it won't recognise because it's flipped!
So far, this app does not work with my Samsung S5. Please fix this. AR mode does not even let me scan. When I take a picture, the output somehow changes orientation, so I have to size it every time. Even then, after being processed, the final image is not in alignment with what I selected. Smart crop is too sensitive. It does not recognize the right box. In addition, the scanner does not recognize correct timing of events. It is very frustrating and time consuming to make the app recognize my day. Actually, it is impossible. This defeats the purpose of this planner. It's quicker to write things down manually. I love this concept. I hope these bugs will be corrected so that I can change the review. Also, it will be helpful to have a user manual and tips on the slice planner website. You sent us an email with quick tip, but I accidentally deleted it.
Concept is great but the app will not recognize the diagram. To much time spent trying. I'm not sure what the others with high stars are doing different but I haven't had any luck using it on my Samsung7.
Really happy that the app is out!! So far so good, the app is smooth and the UI is beautiful. I am still testing out some of the features with the notebook but I feel like the app itself works pretty well stand alone as well. The control is intuitive, very quick and easy for users to navigate and I love how it kept all my colour coding in my google calendar as well. Will test it out a bit more and share a more in depth review. Awesome work team!
Good app but needs improvement. It won't detect the planning diagram on my phone (galaxy s4 mini) and doesn't display appointments that go for longer than a day.
AR doesn't work correctly.
Loving the app already! Will play around with more of it's features for sure and utilize it to the fullest. ^_^
That's awesome!!!! This is one of my favourite apps now! It's really useful and easy to use. I love the idea!

Kickstarter backer here. App was supossed to integrate paper planning with on-line planning in google calendar. It shows the events in google calendar, you can add new events manually by typing them, but when it comes to synchronizing paper planer with online calendar, then it just doesn't work as it was supoosed to. It can scan a page, no problem here, then it takes forever to detect events, and then it gives an error that "it can add the events to he calendar but without the title". Idea was great, but the execution failed completely. And it doesn't seem to be that problematic to improve the app, does it?
