Exposure Calculator Free App

Rated 3.65/5 (92) —  Free Android application by Evan Shortiss

About Exposure Calculator

An application to calculate exposures by modifying shutter speed, aperture and ISO inputs based on an initial test exposure. This is not a light meter.

Given test exposure settings this application will calculate the final required shutter/aperture/ISO if you plan to deviate from any of the test settings.

This application is particularly useful for calculating those long star trail exposures or to calculate the required settings when using ND filters! Simply enter the number of stops the ND filter accounts for using the expoure compensation slider.

It can calculate aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Which ever you want. Others only calculate speed. So simple yet so powerful.

Very good

...And simple to use - Look no more! Can it be improved? Yes, as almost everything in life, but quite frankly, besides some missing graphical design (and colour) impact and a smoother (longer) 'Exposure/Stop Compensation Slider', there isn't much to change or do... Either way, not enough reason to give it less than 5 Stars! ;-) Congratulations to the developer and thank you so much for sharing it with us for free.

The math in this app is sound, and the calculations are correct. It does exactly as it should: it calculates the shutter speed when using a neutral density filter based on the math itself and not using preset shutter speeds. Unlike some other apps it doesn't rely on the preset camera shutter speeds. This app calculates the true shutter speed based on the math. Competitor apps are off by 6.25% on anything past an 8 second shutter speed. Suggestion: more short base shutter speed choices!

Too cumbersome to use, the are better options out there.

X70%

When calculating at exposure increment of 1/1 there are two 1/30 readings in the shutter which causes fault when calculating. This needs to be corrected for the app to be rated at 5.

Simple and Very Powerfull for Long Exposure App.

Could be better. For example, I had to manually set my output aperture and ISO, even though I hit "calculate shutter". Also only goes to 10 stops and doesn't have a fine enough resolution. Filter stacking can lead to some pretty gnarly mathematics, so the best use for an app like this isn't just for quickly calculating the exposure triangle adjustments. Many photographers shoot Av. The best functionality I can think of would be to enter your iso, shutter speed and aperture without a filter, and then enter the designation of your filter or the amount of stops of light you're removing (including its decimal equivalent...how can I calculate 12.8 stops?) and then it calculates a new shutter speed. Two stars: one for being a simple, intuitive layout and another for doing basic camera math correctly.
