Luxi for Android
Useless toy no response and no documentation
It's not working at all
Like some of the others, zero instructions, zero help in the app, and $30 for a cheap plastic clamp and "dome" that clearly has light leaks between the clamp and the phone camera. In short, Worthless. The "hardware" is going back to Amazon and uninstalling this waste of time.
I bought a 'Luxi for all' today, and my mobile phone is sony Z5 premium. After download Luxi app from google play, I tried to match it with my sekonic exposure meter. However, it’s 3 to 4 stop under, and I tried to move the calibrate EV and LUX bar, but the readings at the bottom (stop, time, or iso) will never change / move. It’s like that even I reinstall the app few times. Then, I borrow a friend’s iPhone 4s, “no luxi” mode works exact as my sekonic meter readings, but with 'luxi for all' on the iPhone 4s, its 2 stops under expose. (which I can deal with by moving the calibrate EV bar, the problem solved). However, the most important part for me that I can not accept is, the time does not go slower than 32 seconds, as I am a pinhole photographer, so I use 60s - 5 min exposure very often. Can you help on that? When I was using iPhone 4, I used pocket light meter, and it gave me quite good reference for exposure (it’s not spot on and I do not mind at all, I use it as a guide) When I changed to android I was disappointed it has no good light meter, i was excited to get Luxi before, but now I feel like a fool. This can be a good product, so FIX IT PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the software doesn't work and it is ridiculous to pay so much for such a plastic not what it at all
Its rather finicky, tried it on a few phones. For a long time i wasnt sure on how to get it to work or calibrate it, which is a complaint ive heard alot. Its not intuitive and there has been no update since Dec 2014 for Android. I can't find a list of compatible android devices. It took me 2 days to find their guide on how to use it. Considering they don't seem to be a big company I would have thought they would be more customer focused. I eventually got it working but, it wasnt easy to figure out
I paid for a luxi for all and I can't access the settings function to calibrate it, tried it on a few phones. There has been no update since Dec 2014 for Android. I can't find a list of compatible android devices. It also took me 2 days to even find their guide on how to use it. Considering they don't seem to be a big company I would have thought they would be more customer focused. I'm more than willing to change my review if anything happens but, I'm starting to doubt it.
When I select ISO & Shutter speed values nothing changes to suggest my Aperture settings...there's no instructions I can find, there is no settings menu I can find- it keeps flipping back&forth using various measurement values, maybe I'm doing something to cause it, but who knows, cuz there's no manual to consult! Worthless, because it's not telling me what to put my camera settings on to achieve proper exposure, really? Not happy!
Promised updates and dev never delivered. Not working on my phone (due to ambient light sensor being on different side of front facing camera). Interface is highly unintuitive.
For a plastic clip-on ball... Some instructions with the app would be great too. Choosing an iso and aperture should yield a change in shutter speed or vise versa... Nothing happens! Waste of money.
The app doesn't work. I can't calibrate it nor get anything to get a reading. And there isn't settings access.
I actually thought this was a good idea...but boy i was wrong! This device and software do not work the f-stop timer and ISO are stuck...
Good meter but ruined by horrible app.
I could never get the app to work on my S4, this app needs a major overhaul
This version seems like a beta. It doesnt work well
I guess it does what it is supposed to but there are no directions and no way to customize it. It is clumsy and in the one shoot I used it with the Luxi for all, it did alright but not good enough to keep. Looking for a different app.
Need guide
The proximity sensor is on the left, the camera on the right. Please disable the detection function for such services, so I don't have to manually cover the sensor when using Luxi.
It seems that settings menu can't be opened on my phone. I have tried a lot of light meter apps and LxMeter is currently my favorite
So far this has been a complete waste of money. I will change my review if I get the darn thing to actually do something. Anything.
App is easy to use. I didn't need a guide. Loving the results. Keep up this awesome work!
If you can provide a short tutorial!!!
Very awkward user interface. The need to long-press to define your ISO and Aperture isn't immediately obvious, I had to read it in the reviews. It'd be nice to be able to define 1/3rd stop increments and set minimum/maximum values to align with your gear. As much as I'd like to shoot 1/16,000th at f/0.8, I don't have the gear to support that. Also, the proximity sensor on the Nexus 5 is on the other side of the phone so I'm prompted to purchase a Luxi when I have it placed over my front-facing camera. The only way to get rid of the prompt is to cover the proximity sensor with the Luxi, which leaves my camera exposed, defeating the purpose of the device.
On screen navigation buttons block the hold button on my Nexus 4
For those who wonder why the setting is stuck at weird values. Do press and hold the settings iso/f/shutter to go deeper into the settings. Need to know how to calibrate the lux/ev/ev100. One plus one also has issues with Luxi meter for all. See no change in value when placing the device over the light sensor
