ইসলাম ধর্মাবলম্বী অর্থাৎ মুসলমানদের জন্য একটি আবশ্যকীয় ইবাদত বা ধর্মীয় উপাসনা হচ্ছে হজ্জ । এটি ইসলাম ধর্মের চতুর্থ স্তম্ভ। শারীরিক ও আর্থিকভাবে সক্ষম প্রত্যেক মুসলমান নর-নারীর জন্য জীবনে একবার হজ্ব সম্পাদন করা ফরজ। আরবি জিলহজ মাসের ৮ থেকে ১২ তারিখ হজ্বের জন্য নির্ধরিত সময়। হজ্জ পালনের জন্য বর্তমান সৌদী আরবের মক্কা নগরী এবং সন্নিহিত মিনা, আরাফাত, মুযদালফা প্রভৃতি স্থানে গমন এবং অবস্থান আবশ্যক।
