About Columbus

The City of Columbus has released a free Mobile Application for iPhones allowing area residents enhanced access to city and community resources. The App puts City Services at the fingertips of residents and visitors, bringing to life many of Andrew J. Ginther mayoral initiatives to improve the quality of life of the Columbus residents.

The App uses many integrated technologies, such as GPS for location services, RSS for City News Feeds, and has an entire Social Media Center providing access to Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube information. The App encompasses four mayoral initiatives to help city residents: My Neighborhood, Get Active, Get Green, and 311. The My Neighborhood campaign allows residents to easily select and map government buildings, local entertainment and retail venues, as well as other useful Columbus sites. Users can access COTA bus schedules, view Capital Project information, learn about Neighborhood Pride areas and events, view Health Inspections of area restaurants, markets, pools, spas, and tattoo parlors as well as other various information. The Get Active initiative enables residents to access information about parks, community centers, golf courses, pools, sports facilities, schedules and standings, learn if your game is rained out, view an events calendar, park and trail guides, and read tips from prominent community members on healthy eating and exercise. The Get Green initiative encourages sustainable behavior with environmental facts and pointers in addition to information on what restaurants, business and non-profit organizations are GreenSpot members. The app also includes a 311 service center submission section where residents can submit and check on the status of service requests from their mobile devices. In addition, residents can enter their address in the settings to customize the app to send push notification about trash, recycling, and yard waste days. Additional push notifications are available for those who wish to receive News and Alert information.

This iPhone App is one piece of the foundation of a strategic mobile program for the City of Columbus. With smart phone use already at 50% for much of the US, the Columbus App was the obvious next-step in improving city-to-resident communication. The City of Columbus hopes to capitalize on this phenomenon and make public services more accessible and engaging to residents. Since its launch in 2011, the City of Columbus, Department of Technology has been received a CITE (Consumerization of IT in the Enterprise) Award for ‘Best Customer App’ for its accomplishments with the MyColumbus app.

ACCOLADES:
2014 CITE Award for Best Customer App “The MyColumbus app and their innovation in getting a design school involved is genius. I like that the hometown ecosystem was heavily leveraged. The app layout is intuitive and well thought out.”
2013 Computerworld Honors Laureate
2011 Finalist for the TechColumbus Innovation Award

Upgraded yesterday, and now I keep getting an Error 1015. Can't set up alerts now. This app used to work well on my old iphone. Please Fix this!!! I have elderly neighbors that want to use this app to remind them to take out their trash and recyclables but it's became very unreliable.

U70%
by U####:

Can't load address anymore but even when you could, it would not show the correct trash/recycling days after a holiday. The alerts also have never worked for those days either. Garbage

U70%
by U####:

After the latest update, the app no longer allows you to set your address (required for looking up your refuse collection day) or submit a 311 request. The only thing this version is good for is taking up 20mb of space.

F70%
by F####:

The update broke what used to be a usable app. The previous version worked great! Doesn't anyone follow up on all the complaints. Oh yeah... the previous version worked great on tablets.

Q70%
by Q####:

Whatever you did to this app screwed it up. Does not let you find your street name so you cannot update your info

U70%
by U####:

Now it tells me I live outside the Columbus area nothing works on it use to get alerts for pick up and such that has not worked for months!!!

U70%
by U####:

The one useful feature (collection schedule notifications) doesn't work. App won't locate my address, and I can't even manually set up notifications. Totally useless.

U70%
by U####:

This app stopped working now. I'm unable to get the date for collection Please fix soon!

U70%
by U####:

How the hell do you do an update to fix something and then break everything else and not revert back to the previous working version?

S70%
by S####:

Recommendation - Outsource the CBUS IT staff like the Franklin County Auditor’s (Clarence Mingo) IT department is going to be outsourced.

U70%
by U####:

Developers really need to fix this!

P70%
by P####:

Alerts dont work and schedule seems to be out of date. Today is 4/18 and it states next pick up is 3/22

Z70%
by Z####:

The upgrade can't find my address. Useless at this point.

U70%
by U####:

I am happy to have this app and use it often. A few tweeks and it would be Really Great.

D70%
by D####:

I've never had any notifications work before.

O70%
by O####:

Now that the reminder functionality is working, let's think about making it consistent.... Or accurate. This way, I don't miss stuff.

U70%
by U####:

Keep the updates coming. Could be more responsive.

C70%
by C####:

Doesn't work on Android 5.0 and up. Hasn't been updated since March 2014.

B70%
by B####:

Just crashes. Worthless.

W70%
by W####:

Needs updating 2013? Trying to find the Snow Warriors has this has me going in circles.

X70%
by X####:

Not able to use app. It keeps crashing

X70%
by X####:

Constant java errors force closes this app.

X70%
by X####:

Crashes on startup. After the latest update it does not work. Not really much good if it won't work.

X70%
by X####:

The only feature that I find to be useful is the trash collection notification. Which is a service that would be better left to the private sector. If I need to find my way around then I would use Google maps. I Don't understand why our money was wasted in this way.

X70%
by X####:

The app was slow to respond. The "my neighborhood" features didn't seem to work at all despite my address being set.

K70%
by K####:

Pins impossible to place by phone, it thinks I.m halfway across town, and touching the screen zooms you way out. it should let you type in an address so you don't have to stand in front of the location your reporting about. it also don't we all the way out when I tried to take it's a picture so I had to start over.

R70%
by R####:

Lot of interesting & valuable content w/more to come.

X70%
by X####:

The app is bulky, then when I used it I couldn't get past the pin locator step. It just kept telling me to zoom, I did and still submit did not work. Needs Work.

N70%
by N####:

I want a full refund for my tax dollars. I think a preschool kids could do better.

Z70%
by Z####:

iOS tabs suck but the app works mostly well otherwise.

M70%
by M####:

The add photo to 311 report feature crashes most of the time. The GPS locator feature is only helpful if you are standing right in front of the property you need the request for. Otherwise, there is no way to manually enter an address.

X70%
by X####:

The 2/22 update makes it much faster. Good Job

X70%
by X####:

Please update festivals and events
