Enki: Learn better code, daily for Android
Not for beginners. The explanations are usually very obtuse and don't leave you with good grasp of the topic being covered. Might be good review for someone in the middle of a degree or beyond, but I felt totally lost.
It was a great app but then it stopped offering workouts all of a sudden. No response from the development team to fix the problem on my account after several attempts to contact them and after weeks going by. Still not fixed! Very poor indeed!!
I can't even access the app, and have emailed Stefan to no avail, I'm still waiting on a response. I would genuinely like to be able to try the app out and give an honest review but until then I've decided to try and get your attention with this rating. If anyone knows the solution to the problem of hanging on a grey screen after the splash screen then please let me know. Edit: it seems that the issue has been resolved, and the advice in the app is pretty sound! Still waiting on the promised free month of premium as compensation for the meltdown though
For an app about coding, it couldn't even load the sign up screen, keeps hitting an error. Trying to sign in via Google account throws up an error too. I guess their Exception errors are showing up correctly at least.
The app will not work. I have an lg G5 which is a fairly new phone but the app will only show grey. The first day it wouldnt show any workouts, so i waited a day. Today it wont work at all. I have also had to enter the subjects i want to learn about 10 times, and i have also unistalled the app about 5 times.
The app has suddenly decided to stop loading workouts altogether (multiple days in a row). Before that, some topics got stuck only showing review questions even though the curriculum overview indicated there were insights left to learn. If new workouts load again I will change back to 5 stars.
I love this app - almost flawless. my only gripe is that the app won't save your page when you navigate out of it. It really isn't a huge deal - you have to navigate one, maybe two pages. But it'd be just a tad more seamless with the removal of that imo.
Couldn't even get past "set a reminder" while signing up. Kept repeating "not found" as if I wasn't connected to the internet. Edit: I reinstalled the app and now it works. I will give another rating once I start using the app, so for now it's a 3 stars neutral. Thank you for your reply.
The premise is great and the lessons are good, but it only ever gives me the same lessons I did the first day I downloaded it. There doesn't seem to be any way to skip them and go to different workouts. I filled out a bug report though the app weeks ago but got no response and no fix. If they let me actually learn things, I'll be happy to update the rating.
Edit: it works now, cool app Old review: Can't get the app to work. I sign in, can't see any workouts and the app automatically signs me out again. When I want to log in again it says "not found" in a red banner at the top. I reinstalled 3 times, still the same.
Content-wise, it is very good. Unfortunately, the app is incredibly buggy. The back button brings you back through the registration process when it shouldn't and doesn't take you back to the home screen when it should. The Java lessons aren't working at all. Every day I log in and it says I have completed them. Very bizarre behavior.
I can not nor sign in via Google&Github neither create an account. Times exceeded 10000ms errors while sign-in and failed to load topics errors when trying to register. Edit: i reinstalled application and the problems are gone. Now i'm enjoying the learning in quality, thanks!
Like many others, I've found the registration and login process impossible. I registered with my Google account. I received the validation email. I tried to login with that account and it won't let me. What's the point in offering Google account integration if you can't get it to work properly? Very frustrating and a waste of time.
Was a grea wirest app for learning and reviewing coding and scripting concepts. However, one day it just stopped giving me any topics to go through and just sits on the "see you tomorrow" page. Tried to reach clear data, sign out and sign back in, and even tried to reach out to the developer. Haven't heard anything back in two weeks. App is unfortunately useless for me as it is now.
I'd say this is perhaps one of the best apps I've found to help me keep on learning. Normally I'll get a bit lazy, but because the lessons keep reminding you daily, it helps me to continue on even if it's just a little bit for the day. Maybe the only thing I could suggest is having the option to complete more questions after your workouts. Other than that, this is a wonderful app to use and I've found myself looking forward to competing my lessons each day.
UPDATE: The next day ,the workouts were available and I love the app. So if you get the issue I got below, wait until the next day and your workouts should be there. This app is great for learning new skills or staying informed on things you already learned. Good explanations and exercises. OLD REVIEW: No workouts available after signing up. Galaxy Note 8. Says I've achieved all my learning goals for the day even though I've done no workouts at all and has no option to select the work out because there aren't any listed.
Just downloaded Enki a few days ago and it's been great. Love the content, especially the option to study Computer Science concepts and the whole app design has been gorgeous. I don't write reviews often but definitely want to thank the Enki team and anyone else who contributed to this gem. Thanks!
The price for pro is absurd. I am a student that has little money. Most educational recourse have discounts for student. I feel like your business model targets companies that pay for this app for their employees. I wish it also understood the educational market so that I can benefit. I am willing to pay a one time buy for each course (example: the node would be a $5 purchase). Consider building an in app economy similar to a free to play game like Portal Quest. The app is great, but there is no way I am paying for the prices you are putting up.
Unlocked games that i cant really understand after my first begginer workout, also, the game repeated the same workout 3 days in a row. Is there an option to go to the next session? Also, even the begginer version has some terms that i had to google to understand, maybe add them as footnotes? (Real begginer here). Overall, great concept and content, even though it need some bugfixes, it still deserves 5 stars.
Much better now that it's functional. However there are a few things. The UI is beautiful and functional, and almost intuitive. Work could be done answering the question "what do I do now". Can I only do one workout a day? I finished my first Linux workout and it had me play a game (that was way more advanced than the first beginner workout and didn't help at all due to the unknown information being presented) and now all I can do on the workout page is play this game that currently doesn't help me learn
Explanations were good, but I can only access the day's worth of theory per day. What if I wanted to continue learning? It only lets you see a smidgeon every 24 hours. If you're wanting to learn a language, this isn't the app for you. At least, it didn't fit my learning style.
Beautiful design, but wouldn't even let me sign up. Said username was already taken when I tried to sign up with Google account, but then when I tried to sign in, account didn't exist. Hate to leave a one star rating on what looks like an awesome app, ill be updating when this bug is fixed.
I just made an account and the game tells me i already did my workout for the day? Are you serious?! I just wasted 15 minutes of my life. Thanks a lot developer
The app doesn't work. It didn't have any lessons or the ability to do anything but donate money to them for the first 2 days. Then is stopped working all together, and now just gives me a grey screen. I'm on a brand new phone. It should work fine.
Beautiful app with great content. Nothing short of what I am looking for at the moment; having enjoyed programming in several languages and being stuck looking for ways to practice, this app allows me to advance my hobby without a project approach.
It's a good learning app when it works. I keep having issues with workouts failing to load, trouble logging in, etc. I imagine these will be fixed at some point.
I have a problem. Every time I open the app, it asks me to sign up/create account even though I already connected my google account. Also, workouts aren't appearing at all.
The app is a definitely a must for any developer that want to be outstanding. But my problem is the "web" workout content does not reflect on my daily workout for a month now, and I have been sending several complaints no response. I think the enki team needs to fix that asap.
This works great on my phone, but could you guys add a landscape mode for tablets? Update: Okay, I'm starting to see a few issues with Workouts, and games seem to unlock at inappropriate times. In the JavaScript section, unless I somehow missed it, I reached a "Try it" exercise in one of the insights that dealt with hash keys without explaining what a hash key was, or even what JavaScript objects were. Then a quick-fire game was "unlocked" that asked questions about topics that weren't yet covered in my curriculum. I understand what the devs are trying to do, but I think people are a lot better off just reading online documentation and books.
Based on the photos it looks like an amazing app, for me would've helped tremendously yet didn't live up to the potential. Only because I couldn't get out of the signup screen, after signing up and choosing topics to learn, it gives me an error and freezes. Would like to see this fixed so I can actually try it out.
Nice to be prompted daily to refresh existing knowledge and learn a few new things at the same time. Great format and an easy to use interface. Looking forward to additional languages, especially golang if out we ever to come out.
Great app! Although i found a bit, when you sign up and it's loading you in, if you switch to another app then back, it goes back to sign up process, and you can go back to a page. The back arrow or sign up buttons do not work. So I have to force close app to then log in. Please fix for 5 ✡ Galaxy Note 8 OS 7.1.1
Every time I want to log in or sign up it just says network error. And it also says request denied for security. I would really like to try the app
I'm updating my review after using the app for a while. My old review was low due to a frustrating experience trying to get the app started and connected to my Google account, but the people running the app responded to my review in a timely, friendly manner and I decided to try it out. So far the app is very good, I enjoy the daily reminders that help make it a habit to learn coding and I also enjoy the short daily lessons that often teach me something new or remind me of something that I forgot. The games help with making memorization enjoyable and I like the fact that you can change your level from beginner on up if you feel like the lessons are too easy or too hard. I'm going to keep working with the app because I really enjoy it!
Consider giving new learners some photos with examples, visual aids, using the new concept being taught. I got lost many times already because there's no way to know how the result will look like.
The app let's me make an account, select what I want to learn, set up reminders. When I got to the "You're all set!" screen, it hung there and flashed a "failed to embed" message really fast. Upon closing and reopening it would only show a blank grey screen, and clearing cache and data and trying again produced the same result. App is literally unusable, which I find really ironic for this kind of app.
I'm a beginner for JavaScript. I took the first workout in JavaScript for core values, got to 5/64 and it threw me into my first "game" which none of the information was taught yet. I can't progress with more of my workout for some reason. I bet this could be amazing, but seems to not work on my account for now.
Quick and informative mini-lessons for anyone wanting to learn something new about development. Love it. Grammar and spelling could use some work on some lessons, however... Admittedly it does bother me more than most to see such mistakes.
I don't know why, but i just signed up and it didn't let me try the courses or the games. It says i reached today's learning goal although i have not done anything. What could i do?

The content is great and is presented in a very useful way, however, it has consistent grammatical errors which do not seem to be corrected (even when users point them out). I also have issues of daily workouts not always being updated (being updated every second or third day instead).
