The World in 2017

Its "audio" works just fine, but pushing the start button of the video (alternative version of current "Year Calendar Events" with illustration, was replaced from this year?), would not appear anything at all. Meanwhile, "World in videos" on the next, are perfectly viewable. For advertisement pages, they forcefully turn into a bit of "blur" occurs 0.50 seconds after swiping to the ads - this small glitch is very disappointing. Overall, with its audio and search functions, I appreciate this app tremendously!

To fully use app one must buy the issue via the app. Existing print+digital no longer receive access to full app without paying again. A step backwards surely from previous full access.

You download it for free and then it asks you to pay for the full version of the artical! If i were you, i woudnt download this!

I had no problem down loading the app , mabey it's your phone , I have the real Galaxy 6.

I have tried literally dozens of times to download this, to no avail. The transfer always fails with a "Sorry, something's gone wrong" error message. My WiFi is working perfectly; these guys must have the flakiest servers in the internet. Most unprofessional, The Economist. One star, because I can't give you zero.

Sort this out "The Economist" how can you have a view on the future of world events of you cant handle your own Apps. Dismal.

Selecting the middle-sized font makes it freeze. The Economist apps are poor, especially Espresso.

I have a unique access code but nowhere to enter it and I must have paid the $8.99. To add insult, the download malfunctioned. REFUND?

Terrible... I have a voucher with a unique access number, but find nowhere to download the material to get it. Only a few sample pages. Can you tell me how to progress?

The app installs OK, but when I try to download the preview (so I can use my "free access" with the print edition), the download fails. I have been trying it for the last two weeks. I'm very angry that I can't get what I have paid for. I love reading The Economist, but this app stinks.

Simply won't download with voucher.

They lie and promise a free app but actually there is a charge. Shame on you.

The thing about the voucher, explained in other comments, is too unclear. I cannot place text highlights or bookmarks, I cannot set 'night mode', ie white text on black background. Selling a simple ebook/PDF would be easier and better.

The code that came with the print subscription worked, however the instructions were bad. After downloading the app, one has to first click on 'preview' to download the entire 94MB of its content, THEN you could see the option to enter the access code. There is only the in-app purchase option before downloading the actual content.

Nice idea from The Economist, but its implementation is either inept or devious. Like many other reviewers have reported, it is not at all obvious how to proceed to make use of the offer present in the printed copy, based on the instructions included therein. The offer does work in the end, and it is not as difficult to get going as some reviewers claim. However, I have the feeling that The Economist has either hired incompetent programmers/designers, or else it is trying to be too clever in its efforts to get people to cough up some extra money. Either way, The Economist loses two stars.

The app is unstable and repeatedly crashed and froze my phone unless closed down. The format is very poor with photos and graphs too large to display on screen. Economist you need to do better!

* Thanks to Dan Yurman for install instructions. Suggest Daniel Franklin installs himself in future, noting steps required. The code font had four ambiguous characters (eg is it '2' or 'Z'). Works now though.

Redeemed my voucher to find a sub par app. This shouldn't be synonymous with the economist. SMH!!!

I have no idea where my voucher code is. Shouldn't there be a link included in the email so I can find my voucher code online? The whole process is far too confusing. I will change my review if I can figure out how to actually access this.

Purchasing the 2015 publication was easy but found formatting a little wonky in places: abbreviations are not capitalised and the whole article on Italy ("The plan for Italy") lacks formatting. Minor issues through, this was a great read over the Christmas break.

DO NOT use the access code printed in the magazine with the Google Play dialog. Instead, download the preview, all 98 Mb, open it, and page in 3 or 4 pages at which point an Economist specific dialog box will appear asking you to enter the code from the magazine. Once that's happened, DO NOT hit the reset button. Instead, navigate using your Android device buttons and re-enter the now authorized APP. I would never have occurred to me that the redemption dialog was inside the APP. Like everyone else I thought the Google dialog would be one and one. Not.

I have lost all respect for this organization... It is said to be free but immediately demands payment to open the cover... And the year is almost over!
