ecobee for Android
Clean interface and functionally works. Whilst I'm using Google voice to control heater, there are often times where one touch operation is needed. Currently too slow to open & navigate the app. I'd like to see widget support, homeiq built into app, and a relationship between ecobee sensor and automated ducts to optimize heat distribution.
The app is starting to get very frustrating. It keeps indicating that im entering my geofence when Im way far away from it. There is no way to change the hold default settings from the app. It also takes a long time for the app to load the thermostat settings page. While the bee graphic is cool the settings page takes to long to load. 3 stars was generous for the app but their tech support over the phone is amazing which helped. Great room for improvment though...
Just ok.. still Doesn't update correctly, especially what equipment is running, app refresh is too long. Doesn't read the HRV settings correctly, shows different settings than actual ecobee3 shows, and can't change below 20min/hr in app. HRV timer doesn't reset to off after. No widget! Be nice to see temp and system status as transparent widget next to my clock and weather and battery widgets.. etc. Can't access all settings. Other than changing temp etc that Almost all the app is good for. It works no doubt, but needs some tweaking and features. And really, the iOS and Android version should be identical in those respects. Even the windows app and 3rd party apps, like ecowarp for example, outshine u in many ways. Please fix.
I absolutely love this thermostat and the accompanying app! The geofencing is super awesome and helps keep my home comfortable and my energy usage down. I do not maintain a "normal" life schedule, so your typical programmable thermostat does not fit my lifestyle. I always ended up having to override them and set them on programs which were not conducive to efficient energy use.
I hate to give this two stars but I'm also tired of tapping several times on a menu item before anything registers. It's been like this for me since the beginning about six months ago. No updates have fixed it even though I see several complaints about it. Fix this please.
Very slow and limited in what it can do and minimal updates. I much prefer the ecobee Wrap application that shows temperatures with decimal points along with a quick summary. Wrap is also much faster than the stock app with a better UI. I hardly ever need to use this app anymore..
Barely useable with the touch screen issues. I assumed it was my phone, but problem persists on my new one, and other reviews confirm it's a known issue. Android is 67% of all smartphone users Ecobee, please stop ignoring this.
Application is often sluggish or non responsive. I think integrating a cache feature within the API may solve this issue. Cache "Right now", "sync later" . Until this happens, my review will remain 3*
Installed 2 hours ago. I immediately set up a geofence, since I am confident that this feature will save me the most money.... Sitting on my couch, I have been alerted by ecobee that I have left my 1.5km geofence 3 times. What a joke! (Nexus 6p)
App has all the features one would need and expect. However, can tell it's not native as very sluggish and not too responsive. Likely a web app running in a container. In either case, the slow performance and responsiveness could be fixed and needs to be.
The application is extremely sluggish, having to click on items multiple times before it opens. The current weather conditions are about 10-20 degrees off daily, on the app and thermostat itself. Ease work out the bugs.
The wifi functionality is fine, but I want an all in one app that both allows me to control the thermostat and provides all of the data like System Monitor and Home IQ. The app succeeds in the system control, but none of the data can be found. This isn't a screen size issue either as I can pull the data up on my phone's web browser, but the point of the app and systems like this are to make everything convenient, and it doesn't do that yet.
The interface is the worse I've experienced for an Android app. I have to touch the phone (menu option) several times before it recognizes the input. Very frustrating.
Would love a clock. My previous "dumb" thermostat had one and I can't seem to stop looking for the time there.
I can't access the save buttons on this app when making changes. It's below the area and when I scrolled up it goes back done, being unable to save anything.
I can't even login. It's keep giving me an error saying "we can't connect to ecobee. Make sure you are connected to internet" but I'm connected to internet. I installed the app on iPhone and it works fine but it doesn't work on Android.
It's definitely not a Nest. This app has lots of issues. I don't recommend the ecobee system. For starters, why can't they show a usage history - app or display? It's not hard, but they don't. You have to log into their website and use a ridiculous dashboard. Give me info at my fingertips. The app also is sluggish and requires carefully finding the touch points. Not easy to use. Backing up is even worse. It loops around in circles. Sometimes, it's easier to just close it and restart. Humidity has three modes: on, off, frost. No explanation as to what frost is, but it's the only "automatic" mode. Website seems quiet on the topic.
I'm inundated with data. I love it. Now to put it to good use to lower my consumption. At least remote access will let me turn down the heat when I'm away longer than expected.
Continue to get a goofy error page when editing my "schedule". Running Pixel on Android 8.0. Had this issues for the last year. If this was fixed, would be a great app.
While the UI looks nice, the app itself seems like it was made by very inexperienced developers. For example, the use of the back stack is horrible. Try going to comfort settings, pick one, pick a temperature, hit save, repeat once or twice, and then start hitting the back button. Instead of going up a screen you go backwards through every screen you have seen which makes no sense!
App works well for us, it's nice that it mirrors the thermostat. I just wish that the thermostat display and the app would tell you whether the heat pump or the gas furnace was running, instead of just "equipment running".
WOW a 200 + dollar thermostat ruined by a sluggish, have to tap 20 times , app. Functionality is good but the stupid ported iOS app is really bad. It works but very very slow to respond like many others have pointed out, come on ecobee fix the app Why does loading the app have to be so slow, I have a Honeywell thermostat and the app is much faster
I'm on wifi at home and it doesn't respond to what I set on my phone. Annoying! (older versions worked much better)
Geo fence stopped working I was told to download 3rd party to make there app work again. It worked fine for a month. Wife said I told you to buy a NEST lol
It's great when it works, but I repeatedly have to go to the thermostat and reconnect it to the network. That wouldn't be feasable if it needed changed and I wasn't home to manually reconnect it. Needs work.
The Android app lacks features compared to the iOS one. There is no home iq report & you cannot see the system status and other graphs. The Android app design is not great compared to other app.
I love it, works a charm. My only issue is that it's not setup to use the Android back button properly. Beyond that it has all the features I could ever want!
Doesnt support multiple users, all users have to share the same user and password. This means that the geofence only works for one person; For example In a household of two adults when one leaves the geofence and one stays inside the ecovee Thermostat goes to away mode and doesnt stay in home mode even though theirs someone still home. Having multiple users in same account that takes into account individual geofences is one of the features that I miss about Nest thermostat and cant recommend Ecobee until this feature is implemented. Considering selling ecobee due to this lack of essential feature in a Smart Thermostat.
App works as intended, sans a couple of crashes here and there. Now, if you could please add Android Wear integration, you guys would be the best!
Great thermostat but terrible app. Especially trying to use the schedule feature. Just plain awful. Makes me regret my purchase
App broke connection to ecobee. No connects only briefly then breaks connection and kicks me out.
This app was always good to me until now. Everytime I make a change on the app it doesn't stay. I had to try at least 4 times to switch to heat. I'm still trying to increase the temp.
Works well overall. Only complaint is that with a heat pump the app doesn't tell me when aux heat is on. Aux is displayed on thermostat, app never shows this.
Ecobee server is too slow. Also there is a bug when vacation start time is saved. App displays incorrect saved vacation start time on vacation configuration page, however, correct vacation start time is displayed on thermometer configuration page. We have 4 ecobee thermostats, three of which we configure min/max temperatures when we are away for multiple days. There does not appear to be a copy from/to feature for vacations.
-Not enough testing done on the app - keeps crashing - tried to login using iOS and keep getting login error - tried to setup scheduling using my android app simply does not work. Keeps reverting to default settings. Extremely poor app from stability standpoint
App layout is good but is slow. It is frustrating that one has to touch the arrows and not anywhere on the line to navigate. There is an unnecessary transition animation which takes away much time and slows the workflow down. There should be a way to copy vacation settings from one thermostat to another in the same house. Geofencing tied to one phone is useful but inadequate in multi user households. Thank God we could get around the limitation with life 360 and ecobee IFTTT applet. One much needed feature is widget controls to quickly change temp and profile. Inexplicably, the home iq/system monitor tab is missing in the phone app but is available on the tablet app.
Functionality is great, but the app is too slow. Annoying load times at every step of the user journey.
This thermostat is amazing. Smarter than its competitors (Lyric, Nest, etc.) the Ecobee 3 balances your whole home, not just the temp in the hallway with its remote room sensors. It has changed the comfort and consequently increased the happiness of our home for the better. No more worrying about the temp in the kids rooms.Wiith this thermostat we can prioritize their rooms or just let them be averaged in with all of the other readings from different locations in the home. Set up is guided by the thermostat itself and so simple and that anyone can install one and have all over comfort for their home in just 30 minutes! Don't pass this one by, because it really is the whole package and a new, better way to make comfort and savings as a priority in your home.

The features in the app are great. I appreciate how the general layout is almost identical to that of the Ecobee unit itself. Unfortunately it's nearly impossible to access these features within the app. Sometimes I press one of the menu items and it takes me right to it. Sometimes I have to press the button 50 times before it allows me in. Sometimes it just doesn't work at all. Please fix! It's called a smart device for a reason, being able to control the device with your phone of a large part of that.
