eCab, the new taxi experience for Android
Great when you're not in a busy area served by cabs. Terrible otherwise, as your ride is frequently rejected and you'll potentially be charged for a 'reserved' cab 20 minutes later.
When it works it's great but when it doesn't, it gives a generic error and does nothing. With no recourse if in that state. If an error shows up, it should show you a prompt for other methods of getting a cab like phone.
Have used better taxi apps but this one works for many European cities and takes cards (saving you fumbling with foreign currency in the car). Pretty good.
Couldn't verify two US numbers (1 cell, 1 Google voice) -- "an error occurred". Tried both numbers several times over 12 h period. Worse, it looks like it's working, but fails when you commit to a ride (by asking for phone confirmation). Also, the map search is terrible: it fails to find landmarks that Google knows, and street number search lands me on the wrong continent.
ATTENTION: FRAUD! I downloaded the app, filed a credit card number and was immediately asked to authorize a "test" in my card to validate it, stating that NO CHARGES WOULD BE PLACED ON MY CARD. A couple of minutes later I got an SMS from my card company advising me that A CHARGE OF 74,72 DOLLARS was authorized on my card for eCab/Royal Taxi. I have opened a ticket with the card company to dispute the charge, but nothing has been solved yet. The charge has NOT BEEN REVERSED. I HAVE BEEN CHARGED IN EXCESS OF 70 DOLLARS BY THIS COMPANY WITHOUT EVER SET FOOT INSIDE ONE OF THEIR TAXIS. SO, A WARNING: DOWNLOAD AT YOUR OWN RISK.
Whether it's the app or the drivers I'm not sure but either way this app just emphasizes how terrible the taxi system in Vancouver is
Sent out to requests for a cab and I was billed an absent fee of 5.00. Avoid this buggy app
Have used the app twice and a frustrating thing I've noticed so far is that the destination recommendations are never within the city you are in, sometimes they're not even in the same country or even continent. Please narrow the search parameters to the area I'm in, or at least the continent,
Cab says it completed the pick up when they don't even come to pick you up. One cab was on its way to me then stated it picked up a passenger so I took another cab then yellow cab called & said I didn't wait for my cab & wanted to charge me $5.
Saw 3 cabs with lights on pass us even after I requested the trip. Then the driver asked where we are going. Vancouver cabs are the worst!
Shocking pricing, or perhaps that's just cabs in Grenoble. He already had 4 euro on the meter when I got in...
Tried many times always says Searching ... And taxi never comes
Garbage. Sent 3 cabs instead of 1. None of them met the criteria stipulated in the request
Working good for me, having some difficulties with the GPS though
terrible. has never actually been able to connect me with a cab.
Can't reset password and can't create new account because it recognizes my phone number . you need to create a password reset via text or phone number.
Wannabee Uber. Useless.
Tried to order a car, 2 times got order completed notification although no car was ever present
App is great for getting a cab no matter what time of day.
Supper quick for a friday night decently my new way of ordering a cab
It beats calling the cab. That's for sure.
Lots of bugs but better than calling
For the most part it's a good tool for entrepreneurial conquests
--> poubelle.
Good app. Works really well of getting a taxi.
First time using this app the GPS locator jumped across the highway for no reason and sent the cab on a wild goose chase. App should have the ability to load in a business name because sometimes addresses are not known by the user. When taxi finally showed up the meter was already set to 11 Euros and the cab ride was extremely expensive. Will not be using again.
When it works, it works really well. Just a little quirky. That said it is great when you don't speak the language; you can track your cab and when all else fails, it can connect you to an English speaking person who is very helpful.
This app screwed me over getting to the airport. One would assume that if you put a cab request in the night before for a 4:30am pickup to get to the airport, that the request is being processed and the pickup planned. Nope: when 4:20am or so came around, the app started searching for cabs in the area...it did this till 4:45 at which time it sent me an email saying no cabs in the area and my request has been cancelled!? So I called a cab company directly and had a car at the door in less than 10 mins.
While ordering a taxi in Btussels this app always puts me in Paris. It also crashes regularly. The drivers have been good though.
Be patient, the app can take an age to load and can lock up on occasion. Once it goes though, great service!
As others have pointed out, this app has issues with showing the correct timing/status, and lags in updating the status. When I ordered a cab, it said it was 5 mins away, and then a few moments later it said it was waiting outside, but when I went there was no cab. I ended up calling one instead. Having proper real time updates is quite an important part of this service so this must be addressed ASAP if you plan on being an Uber replacement.
The experience isn't the smoothest, but for the most part, it's quite nice. Just a couple weird glitches here and there, but nothing that prevents getting a cab.
The app is good in my city as it has options for 4 taxi's but the "your cab has arrived" feauture is not accurate and i can see the cab on the gps a block away. This needs to be fixed. Also, the gps needs fixing to get an accurate location for pick ups. Otherwise this app has potential.
Terribly annoying and complicated to order a cab. I don't want to create an account or insert my credit card. I just want to call a cab.
The app charges $12 over and above what the taxi company charges. Whole trip cost me $48. Same trip with Uber last week cost me $13.
Getting a cab via this app in Vacouver is extremely frustrating. ..always seems to default back to Paris :s
Does it eventually load? Tried twice and it just spun and spun.
Like Uber app
App can be improved but it works.

I just got out of a cab in which the driver felt immense frustration at having received no training in how to process eCab+ fares (in which a payment is automatically taken out of your credit card). It took about 5 minutes for him to figure out which buttons to press and which paperwork to fill out. He was unhappy at being pressured to have to process payments this way. I left with a sense that it would have been easier not to use eCab+ and also that I didn't want to force another drive to use this system.
