The Time Traders_ (1958) is the first of Andre Norton's time agent novels. Three others by Norton followed over the years: Galactic Derelict (1959), The Defiant Agents(1962), and Key Out of Time (1963). The Time Traders was the start of a series of books by Norton that covered the Time War. Russia is sending time agents back into time and discovering ancient weapons of alien origin. The United States has no option but to seek out those technologies for ourselves or be faced with an even more powerful enemy. A special team of agents are put together to go back in time acting as merchant traders to find out where the Russians have found technology from a space traveling civilization that came to earth in our ancient past....
The Gifts of Asti. Imagine being the last remaining priestess in the service of a powerful God. That's the scenario that propels Andre Norton's fascinating short story, "The Gifts of Asti." Dedicated priestess Varta continues to adhere to her ceremonies, rituals and prayers, even when it appears that Asti isn't listening. Will the god intervene to save Varta from death at the hands of invading hordes?
All Cats Are Gray. It's an unusual story about a treasure hunt, a derelict space craft that everyone who boards her runs terrified from swearing that it's haunted, a black cat, an old space seed who is down on his luck, something that might have come out of an Alien universe, and a woman who spent her off-hours in the smelly, smokey space port dives frequented by those who made their living in the space lanes.
Star Born. It is about a lost colony from Earth that has established relations with an amphibian type race on a distant planet that also is home to a mythical, cruel and warlike race called the Others. The colonist are escapees from an earth that tried to suppress all scientific developement and traveled to the stars in suspended animation.
Plague Ship. It's a very fast-moving and suspenseful tale, full of unusual detail and unexpected turns. In Ms Norton's carefully crafted universe of space exploration and exploitation two commercial enterprises are attempt to reap enormous financial benefits by trading, bartering or hoodwinking intelligent alien races.
Voodoo Planet. Norton keeps the suspense taut in this story about magic on a planet that resembles Africa and that makes its wealth from big game hunting. The story is full of Norton's classic elements of a clear and meticulous sense of geography, flora, and fauna; a culture built on existing cultures (in this case, African); and clear story-telling.
Star Hunter. This very short novella was previously published along with "Voodoo Planet" as "The Space Adventure Novels of Andre Norton." It takes place in Andre Norton's Forerunner universe. As humans explore the far reaches of the galaxy, they keep finding the ruins of highly advanced alien civilizations that have vanished. Some planets have not been well explored, some have been colonized, and some are home to aliens.
Storm over Warlock is one of Norton's finest SF adventure novels, equally as exotic and exciting as her "Plague Ship."
The People of the Crater. This classic novella from Andre Norton is one of her first ventures into science fiction, and has held up pretty well since. it was first published in 1947. The plot is fairly straight forward, but told in a spirit of adventure and wonder:
