It used to sync between my PAID pc version and my phone. Now CS says it won't unless I pay $14.95/month forever for premium service. As I use my phone for cooking, and only use my pc for maintenance, this won't cut it. The program is designed for people who can/want to pay $180/yr. Respose to DVO response: This is NOT a computer problem. I have apps that still sync & upgrade free. I already paid $79 to upgrade to version 12 and the 2 features that were important to me now don't work.

U70%
by U####:

We paid 80 dollars for the pc version with free use of sync... now they changed it and you have to pay 15 a month. Change the name from cook'n to Crook'n please.

M70%
by M####:

We upgraded to Cook'n. 11 because you could sync your recipes to the cloud for free. Now you are going to charge $14.95 a month to use the cloud. In addition you are reducing the functionality of the program for which we have already paid for unless we pay for your premium service! This is nothing short of highway robbery. Do not purchase this program!

After the subscription rate finally fell, I relented and got the cheapest one because all I wanted was to be able to sync to my tablet. I have 566 recipes in my cookbook, and only 533 of them synced. I've run the sync several times and still not working. What the heck am I paying for?? Of course I can't contact tech support because I'd have to pay extra. Really disappointed.

U70%
by U####:

The free option doesn't permit sync, but the subscription options offer scanning and sync, as well as very responsive tech support at the top level. Sync is really worthwhile as it makes this app so much more powerful in tandem with your desktop version of Cook'n (all included in the one package subscription) Cook'n is easily the most versatile, flexible, powerful and full function recipe manager on the market. I just can't justify spending $15 a month when there are $15 a year alternatives After two months, hoping the developer would honour his commitment to provide the support I had paid for, I've come to the realisation that, unless you are actually paying him the monthly subscription, you are on your own. So much for his claims! This is a great app, spoiled by the money hungry antics of the owner. If you want the best, and don't mind paying a hefty fee, look no further than Cook'n. There are plenty of cheaper apps, even free ones, that will do much of what Cook'n does so well.

Sad that I'm not able to get all the recipes I've pinned. Still having trouble getting all devices to talk. Great concept but it's been a challenge for years that I have had it.

While their answer to this review was that they replied on 11/10/16, I didn't report it until a week ago. After trying to review the subscription options from the sync screen, the proggy threw up an error message that DVO's SSL security certificate seems to be invalid. I sent DVO a message about the problem, and received an automated reply that you must be a paying customer to receive support (even with a real program issue). After serveral attempts to report the problem, I finally received a reply from Dan saying the programmer hasn't looked at the issue yet. I hope their paid subscription support is more responsive to program issues.

I use to love this app for storing my recipes. However it no longer allows me to input new recipes. Everytime I try to add ingredients to a new recipe, program crashes. The only way to add a recipe is to capture it.

I paid a lot of money for the Cook n program. (About $65). I ONLY bought it because I could sync my recipes to my tablet for free and could bring my tablet in to my kitchen to cook. After inputting my recipes, I downloaded this app to my tablet, but cook n decided to no longer have the free sync feature. Now it is $5 a month ($10 if you want the useful version.) Ok, I want a refund. I no longer have the features that I paid for because cook n took that feature away. Bait and switch scam artist.

U70%
by U####:

I have been so disappointed in this program, one problem after another. I have bought 8, 9, 10 and 11, none have I been able to use to its full said potential. Paid for a download that they said would always be there in the event I needed to re-download it again. Well I needed to and get, "link expired" whats up with that. Now 12 more money, I have not even got the benefit for the last 4. Took the scanning off 11., and other perks and want you to pay mo money. I cant even use what I have already purchased.

U70%
by U####:

It has been a bait and switch scam and I have historically had difficulty syncing.Often my device will not sync and tech support-is apparently on vacation! This year it took several months for tech support to respond to me! Years ago, they had a phone number and the support was extremely responsive. Now they send an email stating they will respond within 24 hrs, then they don't! Worse is that they want you to PAY for the privilege of getting THEIR system to work properly! Tech support is not free!

When purchasing the PC version of the software, it provided the QR code for the mobile app. Nowhere did it say I would have to pay to access the cloud. And not only that, but I would rather use the older version (cook'n 11) if it still allows me to sync with my PC like I did before. I just find it to be bullshit that we purchase the software, only to have to pay for continued use of the mobile application that was pushed with the PC software. These cats ought to be ashamed of themselves.

BUYER BEWARE! I purchased the program with free cloud service years ago which allowed us all to sync between devices and this company has just recently did a switch on us all, requesting that we now pay for this service which is totally unfair and a major rip off. If you pay for the basic plan which is around $5.00 a month you are still very limited and not able to do some basic functions. If you pay $10.00 a month which is well over $100.00 a year for this program you can use the basic functions but a $100.00 a year is not worth this program. The owner tries to justify this cost by saying you will get free upgrades. I feel this program owner is a total rip off. That is my personally opinion. I have been using this program for years through all the ups and downs and now I have been backed into a corner and forced to purchase their plan in order to continue using the program with the sync/capture function. If you do not purchase the plan, the program is useless. I do not support program owners that scam you after you purchase their programs. He can come up with as many excuses as he chooses but even Mastercook only charges $10.00 a year to sync not $10.00 a month. SCAM!

I did the update and started trying to enter some of my recipes and everything I try to bring up the ingredients to enter them the application quits working. someone needs to check their app and update it correctly because I wanted to work this way but I might have to switch to my IPADand it will upset me. I added the new update and it did not help at all. Still unable to enter new recipes on the Android version.

I originally gave this app 5 stars. When I purchased this program, included in the price was the cookn cloud sync feature. This is the program I purchased. Now after purchase, this feature is no longer included? Now to use what I previously paid for, I must shell out money for a monthly premium subscription. Talk about bait and switch. Talk about a contract change. This is WRONG!. If a new purchase has this as a term of purchase, so be it. But to now stick it to loyal customers who purchased this. WRONG!!

Several years ago I purchased Cook'N with the understanding it came with with free cloud storage and syncing with my other devices. They have now removed the features which I paid for and now require an exorbitant monthly fee to get those features back. This is clearly bait and switch!

U70%
by U####:

App worked fine until I bought 4 cookn 11s and upgraded to four of the 12 version for myself and daughters. Now they want to charge monthly fees for something we all bought for the sync and cloud features. Waste of time and money. So angry. Should be class action lawsuit . Such a shame they got so greedy because it was a good program. Was bad enough to pay full prices for upgrades. I just bought a new car and at least Sirius states the cost after first year. DVO did not.

Find a different program. I bought Cook'n program for my computer in January for about $70.00 and downloaded this app to be able to sync my devices for shopping etc. In April I received an email explaining I now needed to pay $14.95 per month so I can use the program, as I purchased. Support has ignored my emails as have the owner, who apparently spends all of his time on here arguing that he is not a crook. He is a crook and I have sent a letter to the Attorney General in Utah. You should pass on this app.

W70%

Greed, bad format decisions and useless updates. Forcing people to pay monthly for sync is despicable - that is a basic function of mobile apps. New update is less user friendly- have to enter cookbook, chapter & other info that was intuitive prior - waste of time. Pay over $60 for pc version & see forced ads in the home feed!! Only a few installed themes and they suck - have to pay for new ones. Text is buggy. Dictionary doesn't have common cooking terms. Nutrition facts are STILL very inaccurate.

U70%

Been using this app and the PC version of this program for years. Can't believe that the last update is forcing me to upgrade or become a subcribing mbr in order to use sync function that has been available as part of the program! What is the point of program w/o the sync. Further, the program is not developed enough to warrant 9.95 or more monthly, that's a joke, since you would still need to upgrade the pc ver. Product as a whole is no longer customer friendly and will be taking my business elsewhere.

M70%
by M####:

BUYER BEWARE. Hidden ongoing fees! This is a huge rip off. It is truly a great program as long as you don't mind the initial cost plus an ongoing $180 every year to use your own recipes!!!

Z70%
by Z####:

I agree with everyone complaining on here. The company ran a big promotion at Christmas, so I decided to do my second upgrade since I started using DVO, which is not a cheap program to begin with. What did I get for my upgrade? A loss of functionality just a few short months later when they decided to charge an exorbitant fee of $14.95 per month in order to sync. That is one of the main pieces of functionality that I thought I was paying for when I upgraded. Shame on this company! UPDATE after company's response: My review stands and is completely accurate as to the facts of the situation. The company only recently added new cheaper options that include sync due to the large public outcry against what they did. I still think I was baited and switched and should not have to pay for sync ability at all. It was included when I upgraded and should still be included. Buyer beware.

As many others have stated here and on Amazon,I paid the purchase price for the desktop version. The new lower (4.95) per month subscription fee only provides sync, upgrades for future and cloud. You have to pay a total 120.00 yearly to capture or scan more than 5 recipes in 1 day. This is an excellent program, but to have to pay this much for full features for a program I already paid a substantial price (currently 79.95) for is not acceptable. It is the monthly cost customers are concerned about.

As many have mentioned, this company already got paid when I purchased the software. Then they told me that they are going to charge extra for something that I've already been getting for a couple of years as part of the software. On yesterday's update, they blocked my cloud usage so that I can no longer use my smart phone unless I pay them a monthly fee. That's not going to happen. I've emailed them a couple of times, and the response that I get is that I should be happy to pay them an additional monthly fee. I've also filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau about their shady business practices. Notice that I mentioned software as in version 11 for the PC which allowed cloud usage to sync between the PC and Android device. I paid for this software. Now the developer thinks that I need to pay more each month to use the feature. I do NOT recommend doing business with this developer ever. If you don't believe me on how bad it's gotten, check out the Amazon reviews to see how the ratings have drastically dropped since the pay for cloud model started.

UD: DVO response proof of Bait & Switch. Nowhere on my packaging does it state "TRIAL" software or will need to SUBSCRIBE to use features. Bait & Switch/Paid product no longer works as advertised. 2 years ago purchased 10, a year ago purchased upgrade to 11. Loved the program, worked as advertised. Can you say bait and switch 2 years later or purchasing a product that no longer works as advertised? The 11 upgrade promised to sync with all devices, capture recipes, etc... now require monthly subscription membership of $4.95, $9.95 or $14.95 (an excuse that the cloud is expensive and comparing themselves to major software companies such as Microsoft. who charge hourly for their customer service). In short, they no longer provide the previously advertised services/have limited everything that pertains to cloud sync, customer service, scanning recipes. etc... Very disappointed that the product no longer works as advertised. I would have never purchased had I known 2 years later the product would be dummied down or TRIAL vers. Let me sync with my own cloud, allow basic backup from app so that customers can sync on their own. Most free database apps have a backup to storage option

I just LOVE the Cook'n app! I also have it on my laptop and tablet. Besides the ease of use and keeping it up to date I love the customer service the best. Finally a company that cares about their customers (thanks Brennah)! The only downside I can think of is when printing out the cookbook, I hate for the recipe to be continued on the next page. I would rather have white space and just start on the next page if it won't all fit. I was going to have you print cookbooks for Christmas gifts but that fact stopped me. Again, best cook book program out there.

I LOVE the Cook'n app. I love that with the cloud storage I can have all my recipes on my tablet, android and laptop. That way no matter where I am at I can always pull up my recipes. The customer service is great. When my laptop crashed and I needed to reinstall they were right there to help, and all my recipes were right there as well! Thanks Brennah! I love being able to capture recipes from the internet and keep them organized in my cookbooks. They are good about keeping things updated. Thanks for a great app!

Bait and Switch. I would not have purchased the desktop software without the ability to sink to a mobile device. It was THE reason to purchase such an overpriced application, now it's a program I am looking to replace. All these one star reviews have gotta hurt. Who is going to buy their software anymore?

F70%
by F####:

I have been using your cookn since version 6. I have paid for multiple upgrades and purchased for family. Taking away syncing and then charging a little over $179 yearly for syncing is GREEDY. I don't pay half that for Norton antivirus software that truly is important. I don't need, or want, the extras you offer with premium service. The single most important feature I needed was the ability to sync. There should be built in ways around cloud based syncing. Other apps can do so. I can't recommend cookn now.

H70%
by H####:

Used to be great. Now they changed their model and they want $14.95 per MONTH in order to be able to synchronize with your desktop. That makes this app useless for me. The developer now suggest I simply pay them only $10.00 PER MONTH to get the functionality advertised in their $80.00 (one time) app. This is equally absurd. If their costs for online storage/synching/tech support are anything approaching this, they desperately need new management. Their comments also ignore the fact the functionality HAD BEEN in the product and they removed it

I have been an avid cook and recipe collector for many years and used a few recipe programs on PC including Mastercook and Accuchef. As I was doing Voluntary catering for a Social club I found it a nuisance having to plan and print recipes every time I was preparing for a large Function or a smaller group Dinner. When I purchased my first Tablet I started searching for a way to solve this frustration and that's when I discovered Cook'n and now I wouldn't be without it as I now have my Recipes with me where-ever I go. I have had Cook'n for a few years now and have had the occasional problem which is usually followed up and sorted quickly by DVO Support (Cook'n). Thank You Dan and all your Support Team (Susan C, Brennah O and Bridger Hall)for a fantastic and well supported App and PC Program.
