Avare for Android
This app is super underrated. The thing about it is that it's not super intuitive and polished, but it's the best free Aviation app I've used on Android and it has so really cool features. This has some features that foreflight does not have. The app does have a website that can help you learn the app, or just play with it until you figure it out. I love that it has all the charts I will ever need and it will show your position on an instrument approach chart in real time. Freaking rad.
As a CFI, I use this app for both personal and instructional use. It's a key part of my EFB and has allowed me to go full digital on both VFR and IFR charts and plates. ADSB WX and traffic is a huge plus to quickly visualize in flight options and review of current weather conditions. I highly recommend this app to all my students, even if they don't have Android tablets.
As a sim pilot this is the best app I have found. Would be great if could pull more data from the SIM and could connect though Bluetooth, so that I could use my device to port in real weather. Would pay for the connecting software to be able to use Bluetooth and the PFD with FSX.
It works great. Any questions I have about the app, or any suggestions for updates get quick, helpful feedback. If you are looking for a free app that will provide you with the necessary information you need when you fly, you want this app! Geo-tagged plates are a very nice feature.
I've been using this for years; flying many thousands of miles with Avare. For a free aviation app this can not be beat! Very reliable and intuitive. If the industry wasn't bias towards foreflight, this would be my only go to flying app. I'm surprised there is no pay-ware extra feature for Avare. I know it goes against what they are for but it could keep Avare in the game for a long time to come. Thank you for your work Avare team, so to make my flying more safe! It just keeps getting better! Layered charts, synthetic vision, and probably more! Avare you did it again! Keep up the progress, I love bragging this app to foreflight only users!
I used to be a Garmin Pilot guy, but have switched to Avare to save $70 or more a year. This is the best free aviation app for Android for many reasons including open source nature, smooth scrolling charts, multiple ADSB receiver support, chart overlay, and geo reference. I use a different radar app called MyRadar, because I don't like the low quality radar on Avare. I suppose the low quality is for smooth function and quick update. Overall, great job developers of Avare and thank you.
Avare is the best aviation app I have used. I have been flying with this for 2 years and it has always functioned beautifully. I keep it updated daily and won't fly without it. I have also recommended this to friends who use it as well. Kudos to the Avare team for a fantastic product.
All the features I need for for situational awareness on any flight. WiFi connectivity to ADS-B weather from my Stratux keeps me informed of the current WX trends the may affect my flight plan. Lots of power from a free app that keeps improving.
I'm an aviation enthusiast and hope to start my private pilot training soon, but I've used this on commercial flights as a passenger. For a free app, this is about as good as it gets. The only things I'd like to see added is a radar overlay and maybe a way to personalize the plane icon (color/size). Maybe actual pilots have a different opinion (then again, maybe not), but will likely be my go-to navigation supplement when I start training.
In many ways, I like it better than Foreflight. Would be great to have Stratus integration, but still positively outstanding useful and great to improve situational awareness. Great job and thank you. Keep it free!
Great program. The only reason not 5 stars: not super intuitive and no ADS-B support that i can see. However, haven't found anything better that's not real expensive
Works well with the $59 Insignia Flex 8" tablet and internal GPS. I'm very impressed with the app and how well it will run on a very inexpensive tablet. I'm looking forward to adding an xradio receiver and attempting to receive ADS-B weather broadcasts. I will be making a donation considering how useful this app is and considering that it was free
Great app. I have used it for several years now. It is better, IMHO, than any of the paid apps. The developer also does a great job releasing frequent updates.
Love this app. Recently stopped using Garmin pilot, too slow. This app has everything, except terrain avoidance. At least I haven't found it. My new favorite VFR navigation app. Thank you!
Excellent app. It has become my standard cross country trading app for all my students. This capability would have cost you a grand just a couple years ago. Now all my students can have it. Thanks!!!
This is great in the air because it was so easy to connect it to Microsoft Flight Simulator and learn it on the ground when the Hobbs meter wasn't running...... 6 month edit: updates often, keeps getting better.
Looks very useful. I noticed a tip that said it has taxi plates with geo-referencing. Does anyone know how to use them? That would be a 5 star feature.
Used it on a few commercial flights and worked very well. Always knew exactly where we were, looked out the window and kcould spot landmarks all the way across the country.
Frequent updates and enhancements and free moving map, filing and planing. I make my IOS buddies jealous. Keep up the great work!
No complaints for a free app. Great features and great with x-plane not sure about actual aviation I believe I would go with ff for that.
It's an excellent tool to have while flight planning and en route. Just be sure to keep your charts updated and download A/FD information, plates, etc in advance in case you lose your signal along the way.
Absolutely love this app! Never leave the ground without it. ABSOLUTELY my go to for VFR navigation and IFR situational awareness. CanNOT recommend this app enough.
Once you dig into this app and really understand what it offers such as geo synchronized approach plates, it becomes obvious that this flight book has much to offer. That it is still free places it head and shoulders above the competition. You will be missing out on the best deal in aviation should you not spend some quality time with Avare. I was so impressed, the money I used to send to Garmin for their Pilot app, now goes to Avare to help with development and bandwidth.
Best free EFB I've come across. Has shortcomings but it's free. Foreflight is better but only on Apple and it requires a subscription. This is free. Did I mention it's free?
Great situational awareness gps over sectional map. I fly 30 hours a week, and I use this every flight. And it's free!
Awesome app. It'd be better if more info abt the airports available on AFD section. Not sure what are VFR PLATES n how to use them?
This is a great app for aviation and the authors are very helpful with questions. They just keep making it better and better. Great job guys.
Use it as primary VFR navigation and love it. Works great with Stratux open source ADSB in have recommended to many fellow pilots.
It does a great job informing the pilot of where they are and what resources are available and near-by. To the program designers: Good job.
This is an amazing app that just keeps getting better! Highly recommend it to all my aviator friends.
For free this is definetly a 5! Only wish it had better Canadian support but is more then adequate with World ONC and Topographic.
I have used Avare years and it has been nice to follow how it has improved over the time. I love it!
Avare is the best. Particularly for a basically free app. It's the only app on my Android devices. I have used it for several years on my Nexus 7 (WiFi) Tablet. It keeps getting better. I have the paid version of Foreflite for IOS, also a great app, but it cost and only out features Avare by a few features. Great job folks, IT KEEPS GETTING BETTER... Thank you.
Has sectionals and tac's but no "off" button... runs constantly in background. Hard to imagine desktop devs writing programs with no off button, except malware obviously
Looked like it could be really good, but does not have any Canadian data whatsoever. Doesn't help me in northern Manitoba.
Switched over from Naviator for the free plates. Very pleased with this app. It's much more intuitive and the downloads are much easier.
Why waste money on foreflight? Get a statux for $100 and you have everything you could want!!
For free app it does great. So far I have no complain.
This app just keeps getting better and better. A true treasure for VFR pilots everywhere.

There are a few things that are not perfect. Can't rubber band a route, a few bits of the interface are maybe a little clunky. I do wish it would download chart updates in the background. But... it's FREE, and chart and AFD updates are FREE, and it does work really well. Plus it will send GPS data to BT serial devices. Works great with Stratux also. I keep looking at other apps, but Avare is the one I keep using. And, I find the more I use it the more I like it.
