About DriSMo - Driving Skill Monitor

Today's technology already allow drivers to be guided by a GPS. To take this a step further, this app provides a system to monitor and analyze the driving quality by using the accelerometer (G-sensor) of your smartphone. This will help you determine if the driving is good or bad, helping you improving your own driving skills. Hence the name "Driving Skill Monitor" (DriSMo).

The goal of this application is to emphasize the attention towards good driving quality and make the drivers aware of their own driving quality. By raising the awareness of driving quality, you can increase the quality of driving. Fuel efficiency will also be improved, as a result.

What are users saying about DriSMo - Driving Skill Monitor

Y70%
by Y####:

Tested the app while driving a bus around the suburbs of Stockholm, SE. I managed to get the verdict "good". What pushed the verdict down was road bumps and damages which I simply could not avoid, while the vehicle is rather large. I couldn't drive any slower because I would have been late. The voice comments while driving is touching, sort of ;-)

V70%
by V####:

Like many others have said, this is a great app for rating the condition of the road surface, but does nothing to rate the quality of your driving. Sitting at a light, I'm an excellent driver, but once I start moving in rate as bad! Even on the highway with cruise on, the road bumps make the rating bad. Get real!

P70%
by P####:

It is probably well indented, the idea is good, but I find the algorithm should be adjusted. I agree with other reviews saying it measures rather road quality than driving quality.

N70%
by N####:

It seems to be completely random, driving down a smooth road at constant speed below limit the dial would swing into the red zone for no reason

N70%
by N####:

Way too sensitive. Sharp turns throw me to the yellow even at 10 kph, and speed bumps? Well, you're just unlucky.

N70%
by N####:

Too sensitive, even when still and engine off (stop & start car system) it deviates into "bad driver" (htc desire). Good idea though.

N70%
by N####:

When it says bad driving when you're stationary, you could be tempted to uninstall it. Reducing vibration in the phone holder can transform you from a very bad driver to a very good driver.

N70%
by N####:

While this app has loads of potential I found it quite useless. I could not get to second gear without going into red and there it stayed until I stopped. Sadly, I have had to abandon it.

Z70%
by Z####:

Works great. Helps me keep my agressive driving more moderate.

N70%
by N####:

I don't think I deserve a lowered score for driving up hill. Clever application idea, though. Keep it up.

L70%
by L####:

It works great on newly paved roads but whenever you go over a hill, hit a bump or come to a stop it goes straight to the red. It needs to recognize the stops for sure

V70%
by V####:

Provides very good feed back of your drive. Overly sensitive to bumps and acceleration imo. Probably a device issue though. Thanks to dev for no ads!

C70%
by C####:

I have tried a few similar apps and none of them were as good as this. It is easy to use. Good useful feedback to improve driving skills. Only slight criticism is that speed bump/ potholes are registered as 'bad driving'.

C70%
by C####:

Very nice app. But unless the pothole and speed-breaker aspect is taken care of, it's useless in a country like India. I did my best driving on a non-congested road and still came up 'Okay' thanks to the potholes. I hope you guys find a solution to that soon.

C70%
by C####:

Far to sensitive. I rate myself as a fairly decent driver, every bump in the road I went over apparently made me a bad driver and every time I stopped at lights made me an excellent driver. This is for the old bids that drive around at 20mph the 1's that cause the accidents because people try to avoid there so called good driving.

C70%
by C####:

Does a great job at what it's advertised to do. Five stars requires sensitivity option / buffering of sensor data and possible exclusion of bad data (impossible spike). Not all cars have soft suspension, and not all roads are perfect. Perhaps predefined options - 4x4 (quick buffer), regular, and sports (slow buffer to compensate for harder suspension). This app as is is great for measuring passenger comfort.

X70%
by X####:

What a load of twaddle! Apparently I'm a bad driver because there are potholes, bumps, bends and sheep in the road. I live in the bloody Highlands (of Scotland). I managed to get an 'OK' average on a newly tarred bit of straight Road but that's it. I drove for 20 miles 10mph under the national limit and didn't break and took at the corners gently and nursed the car along and the bloody app stayed in the red because the road had bends and holes in it, not withstanding the odd sheep. This is shite!!! Lol!

C70%
by C####:

Agree with other reviewers - far too sensitive to potholes and other road conditions. I've just driven to work, within speed limits, in cruise, gearbox braking with minimal foot brake use and slowing for corners. 19% bad, 79% ok, 2% good. I'd love to know how you can get it to register excellent! I'm sure tweaks could solve this, maybe the calibration is too severe....

D70%
by D####:

I love the couple of laughs it gave me when it commented on how well or painful my driving was as I drove. It crashes sometimes but not sure if it's just my phone's set up. I would like the option of a quick start upon taping a widget for example using a previous calibration setting. This is a great app for testing your driving skills and for those complaining about it being too sensitive, that could be just your phone, you're just not driving well enough, or you worry too much. Look for overall average.

Y70%
by Y####:

The sensitivity is a bit judgmental. Apparently I accelerate too quickly! ... in my car! It does encourage economical driving though, which is good for fuel economy.

Y70%
by Y####:

The results are more about how rough the road surface is than your driving. Apparently if you don't move - that's excellent driving?! Go up a hill - BAD! Go over a pot hole - BAD! Pull off from stationary - BAD! Avoid crashing by turning to go round a bend (Even ridiculously slowly) - BAD!

C70%
by C####:

As a member of the Institute of Advanced Motorists, I want to find a program to monitor my driving. Unfortunately this is far from being it. It confuses bad road surfaces with bad driving. Driving up or down steep hills gives you a negative score and anything over a medium acceleration puts you in the red again. Taking a corner at more than 5 miles an hour gets you in the red too. Maybe this works well in suburban environments with perfect road surfaces in a car with incredibly soft suspension but in the UK countryside, forget it. If you really want to know how well you drive, talk to the IAM or ROSPA, this app is useless. (Phone is a stock galaxy S3. Test vehicle Daewoo Musso over 52.5 miles and Nissan Primera over 31.4 miles).

B70%
by B####:

The app is very interesting but needs calibration of the thresholds. Every bump is sensed in yellow or red when even my pregnant wife doesn't feel uncomfortable. Too sensitive for Indian roads.

C70%
by C####:

The results are so inaccurate that it's funny! It goes in the red for no real reasons, bump in the road gravels, corner, etc... The only time it goes into the good driving zone is when you're standing still at a traffic light. But in another hand it can help you saving fuel driving smoothly.

C70%
by C####:

Be nice if I could set for performance driving instead of gas saving. At least now I know one reason other drivers take several miles to get up to the speed limit. "Show off your skills"? Seriously? Only using the first 10% of the throttle is hardly a skill.

C70%
by C####:

Useless app, even sticking to speed limits and under can't get it to show good driving, only time it does is when I stop as soon as the car starts moving again dial goes back down to bad driving, try the go compare app instead no active display of driving but gives a score after journey, seems far more accurate than this app, now off to delete it.

C70%
by C####:

But let down, on my Galaxy Ace, by bumps in the road swamping the horizontal accelerations which are the real signal of driving style. Great way of logging the quality of the road surface!

C70%
by C####:

It seems the app measures road surface conditions and the quality of the vehicle's suspension, more than anything else. In RSA, both are well below par... The app seems to be totally oblivious of one's driving prowess.

Y70%
by Y####:

Absolutely brilliant. Great stats I can use. Accurate mapping and helpful trainer. Just brill!

P70%
by P####:

It really makes you conscious of how easy you are on the car. Well made, but I wish it had ongoing calibration. It would smooth out the data on hills.

C70%
by C####:

Recommend for friends who drive recklessly.

C70%
by C####:

Good but not great. Speed bumps send me into the red no matter how slow I drive. Nice UI, could do with being able to choose driver.

P70%
by P####:

Does what it says very well. Took one star off, cause' still asks me to rate it after I allready have done it.

Z70%
by Z####:

Dude U forgot to make the YouTubeVideo of this viewable on MOBILE Devices! Come on man, it's a MOBILE APP!! remember?! & sorry...Fun but useless.

C70%
by C####:

It is too sensitive on bump on the road. When you are stuck in a traffic jam it is rated as excelent driving and it improves the overal statistics which is not relevant.

C70%
by C####:

As other people said, vertical acceleration has to be mostly ignored. Can't I see previous runs on the map?

C70%
by C####:

Having used this on the Nordschliefe and clocking a 9.17 this app told me my epic driving was 'bad' so the lower the score...the better the driver ;)

C70%
by C####:

Completely useless for my little four wheel drive Suzuki. Considers every bump to be bad driving, which makes for a lot of supposedly "bad" driving.

P70%
by P####:

Works well. Meter jumps around on bumpy roads giving me a poor rating. Pretty nifty app though.

E70%
by E####:

I've spent 15 minutes waiting for this to calibrate and it never finishes. Disappointed.
