I have released a beta version of the app with Active Processes monitor working on devices with ROOT access. You'd need to become a beta tester in order to install it. It may be a bit buggy. Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

Also, as of Android Nougat, Active Processes tab will show only one app, Simple System Monitor itself. This is because Nougat has restricted access to /proc directory where information about running processes are retrieved from. Please bug Google about this issue instead of me :)

Simple System Monitor, as the name suggests, is a clean and simple system monitoring app for your android device. It graphically shows usages of various system components.
Features:
• CPU usage and frequencies for each core
• Total CPU usage and average frequency
• CPU frequency graph for each core
• Time spent on each CPU frequency state
• GPU usage and frequency*
• RAM usage and ability to clear RAM
• Network activity
• Disk I/O activity (internal and SD card)
• Test disks' read/write speeds (internal or external)
• File browser with support for basic operations (copy,cut,delete)
• Cache cleaner (optionally requires ROOT)
• View list of active apps and processes and their CPU usage, RAM usage, network activity, PID and UID.
• Kill processes as ROOT (only works on rooted devices)**
• View temperatures of all of the thermal zones
• View battery health and temperature
• Ability to keep running in the background despite being swiped away from the recent tasks list
• Floating mode - shows system monitor data on a little floating window on top of other apps
• Dark UI theme
If you see "..." for one or more CPU frequencies under the CPU monitor graph, restarting the phone should solve the issue.
*Only Adreno GPUs are supported at the moment. Sometimes the GPU stat information may not be available/accessible in the kernel even if the device has Adreno GPU. In such case, "..." will be displayed instead of a frequency. If you don't see the GPU monitor, then your device's GPU is not supported.
**Using ROOT to kill processes is not recommended and should be used very cautiously. I do not hold any responsibility if something bad happens to your system or device because of it.

Misleading screenshots: the app does NOT tell you what app is using hoe much cpu, just ram. Maybe this is a pro feature, but it's missing in the free app.

Amazing app and you know why? I gave my girl a xperia XA ultra but it was starting to lag a lot. All other apps show stuff as normal all was good including the system management but your app was the only one that show me the ram on this phone was going up nearly as 1% every second until reaching around 98% and of course the lag kicking in. Only your app was able to show me that, had others open at the very same time and they show me like 55% ram used and stable!!! I would never figure it out it was a ram management fault without yours. All good now and I will keep it, oh that's for sure. Thanks and keep the good work.

Works great. Only thing I dont like is that there are no widgets. It lets you open windows that stay on the screen (didnt know android could do that) but I'd prefer a widget too so that I didn't have to open the app just to take a quick peek at what my phone is doing.

Since update the 3 little lines up top disappear when I touch them! I would go in there to refresh to make sure I not missing anything. Now I can be sure if what I'm seeing is accurate.. If not fixed then I'm wasting my time here.

If you are a super user of Microsoft environment and looking for a sensible resource monitor look no further, this is it. Give this guy a medal. GG mate, well played. Ps: Add a feature to change color of the floater some time. Blue is invisible under the sun.

It's amazing. Shows me almost everything I'd want to know about what's going on in my phone and lets me have a floating monitor show on other apps so I can see how much they stress my phone. Lovely.

Excellent app to monitor CPU load, disk activity, GPU activity, network and RAM usage, battery temp, etc. While running other apps! Can pop out monitors as persistent floating windows. Awesome.
