그리고 34년 전 오늘,
광주시민과 전라남도민들은 민주정부수립과 전두환 세력 퇴진 및 계엄령 철폐를 요구하며 민주화 운동을 하였습니다. 공수부대는 시민들을 진압하여 사망자 166명, 행방불명자 54명, 상이 후유증 사망자 376명, 부상자 3,139명 등에 달하는 인명피해가 발생했습니다. 언론은 방관하였고 대중은 침묵했습니다.

수십년의 세월이 지났고, 우리 사회가 더는 무고한 시민들의 희생이 발생하지 않을 것이라 믿었건만 아픈 역사의 반복이 오늘을 사는 우리를 더욱 슬프게 합니다.

잘못된 역사를 바로잡고 시민이 주인이 되는 세상을 만들기 위해서는 올바른 정부가 수립되어야 하고, 언론은 권력을 감시하고 시민의 눈과 귀가 되어야 하며, 우리는 불의에 침묵하지 않고 행동해야 합니다.

디자인주스는 1919년 3월 1일을 기억합니다. 1950년 6월 25일을 기억합니다. 1973년 2월 2일을 기억합니다. 그리고 34년 전 오늘을 기억합니다.

그 기억을 디자인주스만의 기억으로 묻혀두지 않고 모두가 기억하고, 행동할 수 있게 대안언론의 역할을 하고자 합니다.
