New typeset is clear. App loads quickly.

Frequently the updates aren't really that news worthy; they aren't major, breaking stories. It seems like if there hasn't been an update sent in a certain number of hours, they'll find something (anything) and use it for an update. I guess the marketing people want the DetNews to pop up on you phone on a certain frequency.

Lacks customizations. Major events in the world going on-site is first article about Tigets/Lions/U/M sports?

Stop abusing the breaking news push notification feature. Sports wins and loses is NOT breaking news. I only subscribe to the breaking news push notifications but somehow my phone is constantly flooded with sports notifications. Uninstalling this app because it was annoying.

Photos in stories can't be large sized for better viewing.

I would like the app to abide by my settings! I don't want sports updates, never selected sports or anything but breaking news and news. Almost all I get is sports. Stop it! Please.

Still slow, clunky and disorganized, and now we're back to entire sections that have only headlines, with blank pages where the article should be. Will they EVER get this working?

Doesn't crash as much as it used to, and no longer shows blank articles very often. Still, it's slow, clunky and disorganized.

I like the app, but the latest update adds a pop-up to the bottom of the page for each story that says "swipe for more stories".....I don't need something to tell me what to do on each page. I go back to the main page to see what other stories may interest me; I don't want to "swipe" to see the next story without knowing what it is, and I find the pop-up very annoying and there's no way to get rid of it...... really bad idea!!!!!!

If you click on a pic and headline you would like to read, the pictures don't show up with the story just ads. Also, when you reopen the news app it should go back up to the top of the page and load the latest stories.

I get it, you want the commercials to play. But does the same Chevy ad have to play 10 times? Long after I've exited the app? I shouldn't have to force an app closed to stop a commercial.

Is there zero effort to at least customize the USA Today app to better show you are unique? The app is identical, by design, to the shade of blue used. Nothing reminds me that I'm even in your app. Terrible app to replicate in such a direct way. Boring!!!

With this last DOWNGRADE, the Detroit News has become a mindless spoke of the Gannett Empire. No longer do we have a well designed newspaper app, but instead we are subject to a dumbed down version like the USA Today. This "diet" version of the news and childlike organization of the app is no better than the children's books that I read my toddler before bedtime. Why mess with success when the last version was fantastic? I don't care what the most read story is....I wanna read what I wanna read!

Detnews needs to go back to the old app. I've used this app for years. The UI is terrible. Too many ads, not enough news. I am Uninstalling it.

Just another news "source" reporting through a politicised veil passed off as journalism. Deleted app.

The same articles can are here 5-7 days in a row. With all the news in Metro Detroit this app is sad and I will be deleting it.

Ever since the update, the app won't open

Update on the new ap. Doesnt freeze. BUT, I hate the format. Too busy with too much imagry. Difficult to sort thru to find the stories of interest. I prefer to read the article vs look at the pictures. Perhaps the readership is reading at a 3rd grade level? Give me a list of headlines and let me choose. Drudge Report is extremely successful without the mind numbing graphics that eat up data. ........................older comment: Freezes all the time. Junk program. Fire someone.
