Marantz 2016 AVR Remote for Android
After the last effort, this now seems more stable and usable, however the experience is still poor. Controlling a media playlist is bafflingly flaky, with the device randomly stopping after 1,2 or 3 tracks. Sluggish and unintuitive, Marantz should get some UX people in to bring the software up to the great standards they set, and we expect, from thier great products. NR1606 wired on home network. Even Pioneer software is better than this.
The resent update both on the AVR and Android app have DRASTICALLY improved. The response time is much better and refresh rate using the app are much quicker. Not fast; but I'll take it. AVR stability DRASTICALLY improved.. it no longer switches inputs at random and locking up has not happened since the update... Thank you Marantz. This is getting closer to the quality I expect. It's not a platform issue as I have the app installed on 4 different Android devices all with the same results. App runs PAINFULLY slow to connect to the system and God forbid the device your using goes to sleep and you have to go through the process all over again... I love the receiver.. it has amazing sound and quality.. but no quality in the app.. downloaded a 3rd party app that works 1000 times better..
Used couple of days so far. Works perfect on Marantz SR-5011 (2016). The interaction with the AV is the same as the controller. I will update if something new comes up. Good job.
Shame on you! This and others app are horrible. Are you doing this intentionally? Such cruelty... On our money!
Unstable, changes with each update, generally for worse. Currently will not let me switch my top of the line 4000 aud avr remotely.... not what i expected when i bought this unit.
Some instructions would be useful, e.g. an explanation of why this message keeps appearing and what it actually means: 'do you change the setting to turn on the device from this app?'
I've read a few reviews after I installed it and found most to be spot on. Then I installed on a Samsung Tablet Pro (Not a plug for Samsung) cause the app worked badly on the S8 +. But on the tablet it is faster, does not turn unit off or no crazy action. Pretty happy with it. Oh it does take some time to connect when the unit is in stand by mode.
Freezes a lot and crashes sometime. It could be much better, considering it is also for some hi end receivers
What's the purpose of this software without visual feedback of what I'm doing? Absolutely useless.
Used to work well, now it does not connect to my AVR anymore, it finds it on the network but then wheel keeps spinning.
Very poor. The programmers have no clue how to make such a simple app quick and reliable. The most frustrating app on my phone.
Having paid for a marantz flagship receiver I'm really disappointed the app won't connect. Come on marantz get this sorted.
Really worst app. Need lot of improvement. Doesn't connect to receiver most of the time. Always get a message receivers not found.
Hasn't worked for the past couple of months. Detects my sr7011 but the wheel spins until the app closes. For such great home cinema amps this app is a huge insult to the brand.
Used to work ok (not brilliant) but since last update won't work at all, finds receiver but then just crashes. Not what I would expect from a premium brand.
Used to work fine on my Galaxy S6. Now won't connect to my receiver.
Worked for one day, now. can't find receiver. The iPad version of this app works flawlessly, so it's not an issue with my network or reciver (SR6012).

Update: Works ok now, as of 2.2.0. Increased to three stars. Old review: Echoing what other reviewers are saying, this app no longer works. It was crashing every time I opened it. Uninstalled and reinstalled, which fixed the crashing. Now it won't detect my av7702mkII, which is in the supported list. Manually adding IP results in an error saying "This device is not supported". I also tried clearing all app data and restarting my phone. The app worked before this update. Was handy for changing volume when I left the remote across the room, or for turning it off after leaving the room. Now useless.
The app used to work with NR1606. Now after firmware and remote app updates it does not work any more. It doesn't see the receiver and only allows IP DHCP input though the instructions are asking for MAC address.
Would be an awesome app if it didn't constantly crash, cannot go more than a few seconds before freezing up and then restarting. I would give this zero stars if it were possible. Hopefully they can fix the compatibility issues so that I can use my Samsung tablet as a remote as I planned before purchasing my NR-1607.
I bought the 6011 receiver and one of the features I wanted was remote app because the 6011 doesn't have the big display. Well now this doesn't work I'm stuck with a porthole display the size of a coin. You suck for ruining this app.
App is very slow. Devs: Please auto select the last receiver used instead of asking me to go through 2 screens even though I only have 1 compatible receiver. (Samsung A5 2016)
Marantz your receiver is amazing now please fix this app!!! It crashes all the time, when it does work it's slow and sometimes can't find my receiver. You deserve better!
Stop working with SR7011 since the beginning of August 2017. Before that it used to crash every other time. Love the Marantz receiver hate their app.
It stops and restarts sometimes when I try to change from this app to HEOS and then I try to return. Most of the time it works fine. It has a big drawback, but I think that it is the AVR (7011) that has the limitation: When I am playing from online (NAS or Spotify), from TV audio or from USB it doesn't tell me the format of the signal (FLAC, ...) nor the input bit rate, and this info is important to me when I am testing several sources of signal. It is not very intuitive to change between screens and between the AVR app and the HEOS app. To resume: It could be better, I can live with it, It has the screen with the right labels in tha AVR info but it doesn't show the information (format and bit rate at least) - when I press the info key, the info that shows up in the TV also lacks this important information (so I think that maybe this is more one limitation of the AVR and not from the app).
Last update stopped working with my NR1506. Says it's not compatible. Had to reboot my AVR to get it work.
Unstable, crashes all the time. I switched from Yamaha to Marantz for sound quality and the 6011 delivers but the app compared to Yamaha is garbage.
Ok this is now working pretty well. It's finding my receiver with very few hiccups. It's responsive. DON'T MESS WITH IT !!!!!!!!
App never finds the device, even after recommended changes. How can you have a quality receiver and such a junk app?
Version 2.2.0. no longer loads app. Not like the app consistently worked before that, but at least it opened...
Used to work now it don't after update. When you spend 900+ for a receiver stuff should work. This was my 1st Marantz product and it will be my last.
Used to work okay until Google released Oreo. Now it is very slow to connect and doesn't seem to control my SR 5011 anymore. ????????
After last update it says my sr7010 is no longer supported.
Clunky and unstable. Marantz can't do better?
Worked and then it didnt....Avr isn't that great either...will definitely rethink any future marantz purchases

Good comments Mike Kenyon...Super disappointed in the software for the app.. Putting so much money into something that should work properly. And sound good... which it does. The 2016 app isn't even working for me. You really should be ashamed of yourself for the terrible app. It would be really nice to see an update that was worthwhile and useful for something that should be above-the-line but it's not.
