Denon 2016 AVR Remote for Android
This is the first time I've reviewed an app on the play store. The latest update is broken for Android, but my Apple devices work. Apparently I'm not only one having issues. I have followed the instructions to check for updates on my receiver.
Somehow gets worse every update. Maybe one day there will be a working app for my $2k+ AVR, but I'm not holding my breath. It fails to connect well over 70% of the time.
When installed, worked fine. Now it does not display correctly the source playing, neither some of the controls (like radio channel selection for example). Still can control basic functions of the reciever, like source selection and volume. Hoping for a cure with the next update...
This app is shocking, & I have yet to use it without it hanging. I bought a Denon AVR because I still appreciate music as well as movies... but that's not much good if I can't get to it. I hope someone from the app developers does read these. Denon, you are compromising some decent HiFi equipment by not having a fit for purpose app.
Crashes frequently, slow and unresponsive. Low levels of functionality. Update: It's getting worse. It won't find the receiver on the network now so it's functionally useless. I regret having bought the Denon AVR due to this and other technical shortcomings.
Maybe 15% of the time it might work ok. Very frustrating. My receiver is hard wired to the network, new router. Using Samsung S6. Will never buy Denon again. Update 10/31/2017: Still a disaster, HORRIBLE!!! I have no idea how they test this app before they release to the public... but no research and development apparently . HORRIBLE!!!
WT is going on! Just spent $1700 bucks four the Denon AVR 6400. This app shouldn't even be in the store. Shameful. Just came from a Yamaha receiver. Their app was great. Everything just worked. It can't play a song from my server without disconnecting. DENON, what are you guys doing about this?
not as intuitive as the yamaha app and the animation just adds more delay to the whole experience. Denon could have definitely done better.. also need the app tl stay active in the background and not everytime have to look for the avr when launched.... denon guys.. its all about practicality and speed .. hope the next version is soon
It does not like to display the song or album art and information. You have to keep back arrowing so that it shows all your Pandora stations and then it keeps scrolling on its own and then it shows the art and info. You have to do this whenever you leave the app or skip a song. Highly annoying on my note 8.
Denon is the worst app maker I have ever encountered. Completely useless. App crashes constantly, has a horrible interface an, does not remember products and is totally unreliable. I like Denon less and less every time I use their products now, which is sad since they have had very good amplifiers. Can't recommend anyone buying Denon anymore. Please hire someone who can make good apps, software and interface...
Buggy. Often have to force close. Often shows incorrect, wrong, or no data from AVR. Steep learning curve. Unintuitive design -- many features hidden, clunky HEOS integration. Tons of really cool and convenient features when you can find them and get them to work.
App is very inconsistent. Latest update broke it again. Confirmed system is running latest firmware and no amount of phone reboots solves the app not detecting the receiver. Developers, please correct.
This is my first app review here . App is crashing always and disconnecting as soon as it detect my AVR. I don't understand what are they doing to make it so treble app to use. Denon should have so much better app than this to use .
Has never been good but has stopped recognising my device. If I input the IP address manually it says device not supported. Well it used to be so what's up? Edit Managed to get it working again by main power off and on then disabling WiFi and connecting with via LAN. Given up with the WiFi for now.
Used to occasionally work, now it never works despite me owning a compatible receiver. This app has no place being made available to anyone. Awful.
Garbage. I love the sound of Denon amps but this app is absolute garbage. Why? Because it works 10 percent of the time. Gets stuck in loading. Won't connect. Force close. It's not bad when it works but that's rare.
Doesn't load on Xiaomi Mi6, stuck in the loading screen. Very bad as I don't have an app to control my receiver.
Doesn't connect to the receiver anymore (used to work when I first got it, then they started updating the app). Very disappointed that basic connectivity can't be established. Decent enough when I was able to use it though.
Pretty awful. Won't even launch. Re-installed twice without success. Now deleted. Don't waste your time with it.
Worthless, does not detect receiver neither automatically or manually with IP address. Firmware is fully up to date on receiver.
Initially I could not get this app to work using the Wi-Fi connection on my receiver. It seems to me the problem is not the app but the AVR's Wi-Fi. Once I switched to ethernet the app came to life. It seems to work very well and although initially can be a bit confusing with a little bit of practice it serves its purpose nicely.
This app is terrible! Kinda wish I bought a different amp!
Only app I've felt compelled to review. Was pretty bad when it worked for about 2 months now it says my 2017 AVR is no longer supported... Huh? What kind of deviltry is this?
The app. gets stuck in "loading" mode. I am at a loss to understand how Denon can put their name on such garbage.
Pretty good, needs more work though... Stops playing when source is media server, playing a playlist created in the app and phone screen closes
I don't get all the negative reviews. Works great on my phone. Easily 10x better than the Sony app, especially for multi-zone. Performance could be a little better, but the controls work great.
I was worried when I saw the abysmal rating this app has, and even more so when it initially failed to connect to my new x4300... But updating the receiver firmware seemed to do the trick. Obviously this app has had its issues, but it works well now!
The recent updates are worse and don't provide any new improvements for what I need to do. Once I connect to my receiver, the loading indicator is always there until I click somewhere. Now I can't use Spotify to stream remotely on my receiver. The device doesn't appear in the list of devices from Spotify. (Could be a Spotify bug)
A joke app - kept losing connection, now since an update to Android 7.1.1 it can no longer find my AVR 7200 at all, despite resetting phone and unit. Trying to insert the IP address manually doesn't work either.
Terrible. Can someone please create an app for this device that works and doesn't require me to have to continue to initialize the receiver to regain communications over wifi.
So far the app works well for AVR control and in many cases, better than the remote. App needs a widget view for track control to be great.
App freezes up on my Galaxy S6 every time my phone screen turns off....then I hit my home button to do access the app again.
Terrible, foced to use this app if I want to listen to Internet radio ,going back and fourth between this and dennon app.
Can't detect avr on the network while third-party apps have no difficulty... What a shame.
Denon seems to have released a half-assed app. Can't seem to find my AVR-X6400H. What a joke. Come on Denon.
I won't write anything... All guys here told all about what's happening with App... Denon guys, PLEASE, solve this problem !!
Claims my receiver is not compatible though it used to work before the latest update.
When using with media server it just repeats the same song from playlist unless phone screen is on

Did they test this before deploying? I didn't think it could get worse than the old Denon app, but I guess you learn something new everyday. Literally will not even boot up - just sits at the startup screen for hours. Completely useless! Super awesome that in 2017 I still have no way to remotely control a $2,000 networked receiver
