About DIY Women Crochet Vest

A sweater vest is a versatile accessory item that looks good on almost anyone, from infants to adults, men and women. Crochet your own version by making the front and back separately, then sew them together and add a border round or two. Make your vest warm and snuggly with tight stitches, or light and lacy with open stitches. The possibilities are nearly endless.

The steps to make you own crochet vest are:
• Crochet the front and back pieces. You will work them the same way in most cases; sometimes you may want the back to come up higher than the front. An easy way to do this is to crochet a basic rectangle to the point where the neckline will be. Crochet only the first third of the stitches in the rows, back and forth to the top of the shoulder. Finish off, then crochet back and forth across the last third of stitches from the row where you stopped the neckline. Now you have worked the whole front and both shoulders. You can repeat this for the back and the vest will be reversible and easy to put together.
• Sew the seams together by placing the two sides of the vest together, right sides facing. Sew the shoulder seams then down the sides, leaving room for the arms where you do not sew a seam. Make a whipstitch with a large-eye blunt needle and an extra length of yarn to sew your seams.
• Turn the vest right side out and crochet for three rows in the round around the bottom hem. Then crochet in the round for three rows around the neckline and arm holes. This will give your vest a more finished look and help to hold the pieces together.
Or other patterns you can follow are:
• Start with the back by chaining 65. Single crochet in the second chain from hook and in each chain across 64 times. Move onto the second row and chain a single crochet in each single crochet across before turning. Repeat the second row until the piece is about 15 inches in length. Fasten off.
• Move onto the armhole next. With a slip stitch, connect the yarn in the 5th stitch from the right edge. Chain a single crochet leaving the last 4 stitches undone. Keep going for 56 stitches or until it is about 22 inches in length.
• Repeat the first step. The front will be done in the same way as the back. End with a wrong side row.
• Chain a single crochet in the first 16 stitches, then turn. Continue until it is the same size as the back. This will be the left shoulder. Fasten off.
• Move on to the right shoulder by skipping over the center 24 stitches for the neck. Connect the yarn with a slip stitch into the next stitch. Continue to do 16 stitches until it is the same length as the left shoulder. Once again, fasten off.
• Move onto the sleeves next. Chain 37, then single crochet in the second chain from hook and in each chain across for 36 stitches, and then turn. For the second row, chain a single crochet across, and then turn. Repeat row 2 three more times. Increase the row by working 2 single crochet in first and last stitch, then single crochet in each stitch across for 38 before turning. Repeat the increase row every 10th row 9 times. Then fasten off.
• Finish by stitching together the shoulder seams. Fasten off, and weave in the loose ends into the fabric.
