L'avvincente corsa su asini che si svolge da anni a Camposano in provincia di Napoli.

La storia che vogliamo raccontare inizia proprio qui, a Camposano, la seconda domenica di maggio del 1768, allorquando l'intera popolazione del casale si radunò nella piazza principale per celebrare l'agognata indipendenza, conquistata appena l'anno precedente dopo una lunga contesa durata decenni, dalla vicina città di Nola. Furono indetti festeggiamenti da mane a sera per tre giorni, con falò, banchetti, musica e giochi di ogni sorta. Tale fu il fervore per la conquista dell'autonomia e della libertà che anche gli abitanti dei vicini 15 casali accorsero festanti alle porte di Camposano. Molti giunsero in groppa ad asinelli, da sempre docili compagni dei contadini nel duro lavoro dei campi. Alcuni giovani scorsero tra gli astanti una giovinetta, rimanendone folgorati: il suo nome era Giuseppina, ed era la più graziosa tra le fanciulle del casale di Camposano. Nacque subito una disputa tra i pretendenti al fine di stabilire l'ordine per potersi dichiarare alla ragazza. La contesa tra i giovani fu così accesa che la folla ben presto si radunò intorno ai corteggiatori, intenti a stabilire le regole di un eventuale gioco a sorte, il cui vincitore avrebbe avuto poi la precedenza sugli altri per presentarsi alla bella Giuseppina. Si narra che, defilato, il mezzadro del casale osservava la controversia, da cui fu molto divertito.
Accorgendosi dell'impossibilità da parte dei giovani di raggiundere un accordo, decise di avvicinarsi al capannello di persone, prendendo la parola: poichè una semplice conta non avrebbe reso alcun onore al vincitore nè omaggio alla fanciulla, egli propose una gara di astuzia, abilità e, perchè no, fortuna, ovvero una gara di velocità con gli asinelli. Entusiasti, i pretendenti accettarono, ma il mezzadro fece notare che l’unico percorso adatto alla singolare corsa era la strada di collegamento tra il casale di Comiziano e quello di Camposano, che rientrava nelle proprietà del consigliere Giulio Mastrilli: era necessario, dunque, chiedere al nobiluomo l'autorizzazione a gareggiare sui suoi possedimenti. Per questo motivo il mezzadro e i pretendenti si avviarono verso la casa di campagna dell'aristocratico in via Capuua. Giunti a destinazione, il mezzadro bussò al portone e, presentatosi al nobile affacciatosi dal terrazzo principale della dimora, illustrò i motivi della visita. Il nobile, da sempre amante delle donne, ne fu assai divertito e, nominato il mezzadro mossiere della corsa, diede parere favorevole.

Fu così che i giovani, con l’aiuto del mossiere, diedero vita alla gara: corsero immediatamente ai loro asinelli legati ad un palo poco distante e, stabilite poche e semplici regole, si lanciarono in corsa, cavalcando a pelo i propri animali, incitati dalla folla incuriosita e divertita. Quell'anno il raccolto fu particolarmente abbondante, per cui si decise dall'anno successivo di celebrare l'indipendenza del casale e la fecondità della terra organizzando una corsa con gli asinelli preceduta da un corteo di giovani, guidato ogni anno da una diversa fanciulla in età da matrimonio, recante tra le mani un cesto colmo di primizie come simbolo di abbondanza ed auspicio di fertilità. Attraverso testimonianze orali è giunto sino a noi il racconto di questa singolare vicenda. L'associazione culturale iside di camposano, con il proposito di portare alla luce le tradizioni e la cultura dei nostri antenati, anche quest'anno ripropone l'avvincente palio del casale. That year the harvest was particularly abundant, so it was decided the following year to celebrate the independence of the farmhouse and the fruitfulness of the earth by organizing a race with donkeys preceded by a procession of young people, led by a different girl every year in marriageable age, bearing in his hands a basket full of fruits and vegetables as a symbol of abundance and fertility of hope.
