Petfinder for Android
I hate how this app searches. The touch screen feature makes searching very difficult because of how it jumps around so easily by the slightest touch. But other than that it's a great website to rescue pets.
WHY IS THIS APP SO BAD? This app is UNUSABLE. Search results always, always yield NOTHING. It seems that it doesn't recognize location and/or the search function is faulty. PLEASE, go back to the drawing board and develop an app that works. Meanwhile, I will continue to use the PetFinder site. Animals need homes. Don't they deserve better than this half-baked app? Shame on you!
Found this app while looking for another fluff ball to love. Just had our kitty put to sleep 8 days ago and, especially with my husband in the hospital, it's sooooo lonely around here!
I want to love this app, but it continually loses connection go its server and does not update regularly. I will see profiles on the app for pets that have been adopted weeks ago, and new profiles don't show up when they are put onto the site. I wish it was more reliable, as it has so much potential.
Despite being able to put in a location the app still shows pets from all over the US. Many pets shown were up to 1000 miles from me! Going back to the website...
I have had to download, uninstall, re download, restart my phone - all multiple times and this app will not locate any dogs for me..even when I select 'all dogs'. Fed up.
App is okay. It'd be nice if you could search for more than one age at a time. I wish there was a way to search for more than one breed at a time, although the site doesn't have that either. My other app complaint is that the app overrides the rotate settings on your phone- I never have screen rotation enabled on my phone, but the Petfinder app rotates if I turn my phone.
Many shelters and fosters conduct home visits and won't go beyond 40-50 miles. I would love to choose a certain radius, it would be most helpful.
It's ok but doesn't bring up as many dogs as the website. Gives me dogs all over US..not even in my state. Website is better.
There is always new dogs up, it helps locate dogs you would never find normally. The only thing I would change is being able to check multiple boxes like "baby" as well as "young" but that's such a minor thing.
I was expecting the app to have search filters like the website does. We have small children (and soon will have farm animals also) and I need to weed out any pets that will not do well in our home.
The location option is annoying. I want to be able to search for breed anywhere in usa. Am I missing something?
Can't choose multiple fields like age and size, slow to show search results, no decent search parameters to narrow search to local only.
Having to scroll by dragging an imaginary bar on the ride side of the screen is terrible. If i scroll anywhere else on thr screen, it sends me all over the place. A shame really, because the website is great. A true eff up here for an otherwise great service. I want to use it, but i refuse. It's too annoying.
It's a good app but would be SOOOO much better if the search engines actually let you filter how far you want the search to go out. I just searched for a dog and it brought up dogs from CA,IL,NY so that blows.
I realize this app can only use as much info as the website has, but the website has a distance filter. I'd also like to be able to select multiple breeds and age groups. As it is, I have to look at one at a time, which is time consuming. All the data is there, just make the multiple options selectable in the same filters. Further, sorting by date added would be extremely helpful.
The app does not pull up all the dogs that are listed on the website. We found a dog on your website that we wanted to adopt, but were unable to find that same dog on the app. The rescue group listed for that dog was also not listed in the app. I was able to browse using the app, but ended up going back to the website because I knew I wasn't getting a full listing.
Keeps saying can't find anything with where I'm searching. I put Chicago!!! Doesn't get much bigger and more popular of an area then that. I tried to look up any dog in any location because I don't mind traveling if it's the right dog for me. NOPE! Wouldn't Let me do that either. This app needs a lot of work. If I can't use it then why would I want to keep it. Uninstalling.
It's usually a little slow, but lately it won't load at all. If you save a pet to your favorites, it should let the user know when/if that animal is adopted. But I like the idea a lot
It's ok but I put in hanoverian horse or golden retriever and it pretty much gives me everything but what I wanted. Like I'll search golden retrieved and a bunch of Dalmatians and German shepherds come up. Please fix this and I will give it a 5 star
I love PF's website. Always hundreds of dogs in my area to browse. Was so excited to see they have an app too. But it says there are no results. What?! Good for nothing. Deleting.
Not enough filtering or sorting options when it does work. Many times it just says "nothing matches your search" when all i searched for was "dog" in the Phoenix area. In pretty sure all the dogs have not been adopted yet.
Tired of finding breeds listed incorrectly! A pit bull IS NOT a cocker spaniel or corgi or golden retriever or any other breed said rescue decides it may or may not be mixed with. The best is finding them listed under chihuahua. I have adopted a pit bull b4 and yes they cleary need their own category or adoption app. BTW, it is not just pit bulls, other dogs are mis categorized.
I downloaded the app to be able to find local rescue animals, but unfortunately I am unable to actually locate animals within 50 mile radius. All of my results are hundreds of miles away. The location feature on the app cannot narrow down animals in a closed vicinity. I guess I shall have to start carrying my laptop around or a tablet to be able to find my next pet.
Would easily get 4 or 5 stars if my favorites would update when a pet has been adopted. It's irritating to have to go back and search through to know if a favorite pet is adopted or not.
This app is great, but there is one thing that is super annoying. I'm currently searching for a new member to add to my crew, so of course I would want to search for local pets. When I'm searching for the local pets, it will show the first few in my area and then it starts showing pets in different states. And I know good and well there are more than 4 cats in my area for adoption.
I work w a rescue group that's on PetFinder please look us up if your interested in finding a new member of your family. Mini Paws Rescue Inc. Is a small in home rescue group in GA. We keep all our rescues in our homes to give them the full attention and needs they need to transition from being thrown away, lost or given away and we try to train them if needed as well. Were also a 501 (C) 3 which means we souly operate on donations only and out of our own pockets. Please look us up under shelters and rescues
Wanted to search for cats around my area but wanted to lay in bed without my labtop and this works great. So glad they had an app.
App has potential to be amazing but unfortunately it severely drops the ball. Results are never up to date and it doesn't let you set a distance radius. App is doing all furbabies a serious disservice, especially ones in high-kill shelters who are on extremely short borrowed time ='( <3
Lazy load of images waits until in the middle of the screen to load, sometimes never loads. Remove lazy load or have it pop sooner. No distance search, I'm seeing 80% of results from out of state. Can't select multiple search criteria. Why not allow for searching big and medium sized dogs? Doesn't show age/sex/relevant info on search page. You have to click into the animal to view.
I love thiss app its perfect but 1 little problem is that seeing all these homeless pets makes me sad
I want to love this app, but it continually loses connection go its server and does not update regularly. I will see profiles on the app for pets that have been adopted weeks ago, and new profiles don't show up when they are put onto the site. I wish it was more reliable, as it has so much potential.

The location feature on the app cannot narrow down animals in a closed vicinity. I guess I shall have to start carrying my laptop around or a tablet to be able to find my next pet.
I want so much to like this app, but it doesn't update well. If I am looking at my local Shelter, for example, I will still see profiles for pets that were adopted weeks ago - and if I go onto the Petfinder website, those adopted pets are no longer listed, but the app still shows them. Therefore the app isn't a reliable source. Sad face.
They finally put out an update after a year and a half. Again, now you can finally look up available animals under your specific search options and save/bookmark potential pets you'd like to adopt! :)
It worked pretty well, few kinks needs work. Sometimes it was not accurate but i did get a puppy from using this and he is perfect
This app has so much potential. However it was hinky on ioS and worse on Android. I looked up "border collie adult medium" and the thing crashed, telling me it couldn't access the server. However, I was able to look for "border collie adult male large". WTHF? I don't have a problem with national searches because I have a lost or stolen dog which may be anywhere, but I can see if this were the default it would be very inconvenient. Also as someone else pointed out, not all animals on the website are seen in the app. Use in combination with other apps such as Finding Rover and Petharbor for best results.
I wanted to search my area but it keeps showing me pets from our of state and across the country. Not very helpful in that. Please fix, the app is great otherwise.

While I love petfinder (have adopted 2 pets using their site over the years), their app needs some help. It often glitches, thus not allowing you to search (or showing that you have no results when you definitely should). Not having the same options as the site is also annoying. Like if you want to do a radius search, limit your search to declawed or house broken dogs, youre going to have to use the site and forget the app.
