About Alibi

When activated, Alibi will constantly collect the last hour of audio, video and location data from your Android device and temporarily store it to the phone's cache. It is optimized not to deplete your battery, and runs discreetly in the background.

Once Alibi has captured evidence that you would like to save, open the app and save the data to your local storage, compressed and hidden to prevent it from being tampered with. Think of it as a body camera, or a personal DVR for your life. Alibi never stores or shares any data with any party for any reason.

Alibi is built around privacy, and seeks to provide evidence of any situation from police interactions, vehicle accidents, altercations, arguments, workplace harassment, and much more. It gives users the confidence to stand up for themselves in the face of misguided authority or misplaced aggression. Never be without an alibi.

I like the app but i think its lacking some basic functions that might be really handy to alot of people. How about ability to change recording time from 1 hour to 3 or 6 or 12 hours. Auto save up to 12 hours if not accessed within 24 hours over write the files. Auto upload of files to the likes of dropbox. Choosing recording quality and file type would be good too and specifying what folder to store files in. With micro sd cards being so affordable and phones so powerful now all this is possible :)

Keeps freezing and I have to restart my phone. And when I save something, where do I find it? It's supposed to save the data as hidden files on the memory card, but when I plug my phone into my computer, I can't find them, even though I have the option to see hidden files turned on in Windows Explorer.

There are some serious issues with Alibi, not the least that it does not autostart which means that you have no evidence at all if you forget to start it after a reboot (and who remembers that?). With no updates for almost 18 months, it also seems to be abandonware. Nevertheless, in the absence of any competition, still the only option around -- hence the three stars.

Edit: this app saved my life yesterday! I got attacked yesterday and I now have concrete evidence! It works and might just save my life. But I seriously need to increase the microphone recording volume and cannot find any settings for that.

It takes pictures even though I tell it not to; I only want to record audio. Absolutely destroys battery life

"Alibi is in beta and recording video may deplete your battery". Umm the description says otherwise. If it doesn't eat my battery I'll change the rating.

But I'm still concerned about battery drain. Any user comments on this?

I like this app, it's really useful, reliable, & easy to use. I do wish there were some tools to help organize my recordings and sync them with location and calendar data. I also wish there was an option to automatically start recording when I turned on the phone. But it's a good product as it is.

Time and time again go to save important info only to find the app has crashed

I became very curious of this App when I discovered it and started reading the "Reviews" about the App. Thus, I found that my "Gut Feeling" was NOT TO DOWNLOAD the App but curiosity killed the cat and I did indeed download it to my phone and only to receive an error message: "THE APP COULDN'T BE INSTALLED...." and when I attempted to view all of the message it disappeared and now the App IS NOT INSTALLED, to the best of my knowledge but it does REGISTER AS BEING INSTALLED via Google's App list in my Google Account. If I catch any of you people spying on me then all I can say is "MAY THE FORCE BE WITH YOU"...?

Doesn't work. It creates empty files on export. Have emailed support but not got a reply. Nice idea.

They should really add the the ability to choose how many hours until it deletes itself

Good so far. Definitely think there should be a widget for this though.

Hangs up, saved files impossible to find, no response from support, drains battery. Uninstalling.

I just wanted to add a line to my original post. To those fellow users who are reporting empty files/folder I too was getting similar results and finially realized that a memory cleaner and battery optmizer program would empty out the files and leave empty folders behind. After telling the program to leave alibi alone the issue vanished. Stable & lightweight enough for all day use. Yes it would be nice to have video & audio saved on the same file but even so a program that makes my must have list.

The idea is good but it needs fine tuning . It saves 2.8mb jpg single frame pictures with color bars instead of video. A setting to email the files when they are saved would be nice. That way you have a copy when you get home, even if phone is lost, confiscated or smashed. Galaxy S4. Edit------Now May 2016 and this still doesn't work.

Often will only save 3 seconds of audio. Even when told not to save photos the app still activates phones flash at random intervals. There is a real need for this app, if only it worked properly.

The app at first glance appears a streamlined concept, but the execution is poor. I have tried repeated controlled tests between 20-60 minutes. Alibi, when it saves any files at all, often re-saves recordings made on previous sessions. For an app that at its heart seems to be intended to be intuitive to a user in desperate need of extra eyes and ears while under duress, it repeatedly fails to function properly under the most optimal conditions.

The audio quality of the files is really low. I'm sure this is to minimize battery consumption but the audio is hard to make out which is a problem.

Doesn't work. "Must record for 15 minutes" even if it's been an hour... Simply put. It never starts recording.

I love the simplicity of idea and interface. It works on my LG G3, with a few annoying bugs: when my phone ringer is set for sound, I periodically here a camera snap sound. Even though I unchecked take photos when I launched the app, it is still taking them. And the recorded audio is VERY muffled, so much so that to make out what's being said I'll need to do serious audio editing. When I use other apps to record sound on this same phone, the mic picks up all sound in the vicinity with incredible clarity.

had altercation with person while recording w/alibi, phone was dropped and battery fell out. no info was saved.if i had used normal android video recording which records directly to non volatile memory than i would not be in a he said, she said predicament. at least provide option for direct memory recording in these matters.

This app proved a *very* bitter disappointment today when, after recording a hit-and-run accident I was involved in proceeded to create itself a 12-minute gap in audio data, during which I announced the license plate of the person who basically ran me over with his vehicle (while I was on a bike), leaving me with a broken bike and injuries at the scene! Why can't this app ever seem to work when it needs to most???

Nice app. Video works great on my g2. I wish it had an autosave option instead of having to "click to save." Also, after making a new recording, all my deleted files show back up in my data folder.
