DrivePlus for Android
Terrible. I hate this app and the drive plus box. It's absolutely ridiculous that they mark you down for driving on certain roads that are considered 'high risk' or the fact that they mark you down for driving at certain times of the day. Most people use their car to drive to work, most people have work during the rush hour, so they will driving at the peak times and if your work is on a high risk road, well then you can't do anything about that. Also I keep getting marked down a little for 'smooth driving'. It says I break to hard, but the box and app don't take into consideration that some cars are older and have worn brakes that are still perfectly fine, other than you need to press down on them a little more than say a brand new car or something. This is so stupid and Directline really need to rethink their box and what it should be monitoring instead.
So it does work, finally. But it scores very oddly. A road becomes all of a sudden risky, when it was not yesterday and it will not be tomorrow. It does not take into account foreign speed limit, so bad score when you drive 130km/h, like others, in France. It drains your battery in Auto mode and it can not be stopped, so you have to force stop to spare battery life and persistent icon in status bar. By the way if you use your car to go at work, don't bother, you will never have a decent score, no matter how good your driving is, because you "choose" not the best hours of driving... Very hard to support such an app even if I believe the concept is good.
Persistent "service started" notification annoying. Recommend blocking all app notifications
Stopped accessing GPS, even though all other apps can. Have had problems with this app since the start. Considering legal action against direct line for mis-selling and selling a product that is not fit for purpose.
I've now been asked to de-install & re-install numerous times over the past 6 months & it's still not working :-) Last year I reclaimed the full £30 & so far since May haven't registered £1 due to the lack of mileage Think I'll be contacting Trading Standards Very unhappy with this app & Direct Line :-(
Now working again but I lost the payment last quarter as it wouldn't connect to GPS. Still scores harshly but at least it's working
Not good at all, you get penalised for driving at particular times and on certain roads. I have to drop my 7 year old at school but due to the time and road I get marked down everytime. That is ridiculous, I can't change the time or the roads to the school. Really bad app
It recorded a train journey I was making the other day. I switched off my phone when I realised what it was doing. It gave me a score of 44 for sitting on a train!!
It's intermittent and records incomplete journeys.
Can't even log in to the app! It's the right password, bit won't even let me reset it within the app!
After the update it keeps logging me out.
To sum up, the app is doing everything to rate you down.
Worthwhile having as can get money back and helps in improving awareness of own driving skills etc.
App does not work anymore
Its frustrating when all headings show green and your score is recorded low. There is no explanation why it reads well but looks bad !! I got my highest score for the period when my car was parked at an airport car park for a week. Hows that?
Uses five criteria to assess score. I live in an area with narrow roads and high accident risk. This outweighs good scores in the other 4 criteria. I've just passed my advanced motorist test but can't get a score above 70.
App itself works pretty well. However as mentioned by others, the drive plus rating is unhelpful. Says I'm driving perfectly fine but because of the roads and times I drive (which isn't necessarily in control of the driver), I am being marked down.
My driving overall is smooth and really good. However my score lowers down because of the day of travel which is out of my control as a driver being stuck in a traffic is not my fault and the time of day it can't be unstoppable this needs to be improved as soon as possible
I am assured that I am improving on my driving and I have only passed 6months ago. P.S. I found out that you can disable the unremovable notification (on Android) within the phones settings, not on the app.
None of the previous versions have worked well, this one is dreadful and offers no useful feedback to the driver (and arguably none to Direct Line either). Stops halfway through a journey and doesn't upload a score. Have tried reloading to no avail. One can only conclude that it's been deliberately designed so as to minimize the money that Direct Line has to pay out to customers. Come renewal time this will weigh heavily on my decision to stay with the insurer. Update 10/5/2017: Like so many others have experienced the App can no longer acquire a GPS, even when others Apps can....very frustrating.
I'm puzzled by the scoring almost every road I hope on is high risk so reduced my score. EVEN TURINING MY CAR ARROUND IN A PRIVATE CAR PARK IS A HIGH RISK ROAD. That's crazy!! Also it scores me lower on roads where there are humps due to the changes in speed! Had a good score on safe Road IT WAS THE M25 on a Friday afternoon and I was in traffic due to an accident how ironic.
Rubbish app. Unfair as it marks down for conditions out of driver's control even when driving is smooth and appropriate to traffic. Has stopped working as no longer picking up GPS and can't log out to reload.
Have used this for over a year. Not too bad, but recently after an update, it no longer finds the GPS. In summary then, the app is now useless. Will not be insuring with direct line again
Once installed the symbol is impossible to remove from your notification bar (Android). Criticises you for driving at night when I was assured you wouldn't be criticised at all for driving at night by a direct line representative.
Had a few problems but appears that they will be sorted out, other than that I received my first three cheques without any problems and mostly the app worked well
This week it has ceased to run not picking up GPS signal. Uninstalled/Reinstalled to no avail. Tried working app on manual and auto again fails. Apps team please sort. Others making similar cliches.
Worst box I have ever had. Doesn't take into account where you live and the types of roads you travel on. I live in a part of London where there are only small roads and you have to constantly start and stop. Because of this it always puts me in the red...
App now no longer able to get a gps signal so cant record journeys. Still waiting for last quarters cashback despite two emails to ask.
It has stopped working. Nothing happening since Wed. 3rd May 2017. Unacceptable. A real trial trying to find support and help. David Copeland
Not very consistent and doesn't explain the score very well. Can be all green and still score low. Apparently moving my car 10m from the close I live in to my drive was marked low due to it being "a high risk route". Sure.
Really need to sort this getting a score of 30 for getting of the drive and getting back on, and marks me down for taking a certain route. Should only judge you on speed and smooth driving, if the sat-nav tells me to go that way I'm going that way road risk is a waste. Poor policies
#1.1.3.7 Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Android Nougat. No longer able to find location. TomTom and GPS FIX able to see satellites OK.
Great app when it works but keeps crashing and not recording journeys. Then needs uninstalling and reinstalling. Real pain!
Has stopped working for me too. Can't get the GPS location to start the journey.
Latest update seems to change the quarterly end date every day. Seems to be a fiddle now. Has been ok but journeys are random with results. Bit unstable
I have been using this app since Nov 2016. It was problematic from the start and has not improved since! I have it set to auto-record but it only manages to capture about 25% of my journeys. Even when I have tried to manually record a journey, it quite often fails to capture the trip. It will spend an age trying to acquire a GPS signal and then time out. At first, it really made me more focused and mindful about my driving. This should have proved to be a positive thing but I quickly realised that this app doesn't appear to be compatible with 'normal' driving. Trying to avoid 'harsh accelerating' and 'unnecessary braking' was possibly making me more of a road hazard than improving my driving! As most of my journeys are short ones, including the school run, the odds seem firmly stacked against me as, despite what I consider good driving, I struggle to get over 70. Unless I am making an irregular 'out of town' trip of over 4 miles or so, I cannot acquire a decent 80 plus score. My road risk pretty much sticks stubbornly on red as I am apparently driving in high crash areas - which I can't avoid as it's where I live! I definitely would not recommend this app.
I used to get an unfortunately it has stopped working, but as of 28-5-2017 it fails to at all
Dreadful. Drains the battery even when it isn't in use
Doesn't record journeys anymore, waste of time.

Short journey's record as to many stop starts. Penalised for driving in town and braking due to defensive driving because of other morons. Other than that not bad, managing 82 ish.
