About Army Knife for Android

This app contains a set of tiny tools: a flashlight (widget too), a unit converter, a timer, a stop watch, a compass a bubble level, a calculator, a magnifying glass (Android 2.2+ required), a mirror (Android 2.3+ and front camera required) and a ruler.
Essentially it is an Android "Swiss Army Knife".
Each tool does what it is supposed to do. There's no space for special effects like 3d compass, talking level, psychedelic flashlight etc: the goal is to have a lightweight, fast and easy to use set of tools, one "tap" away from your home screen.
This app is half the size of a common "standalone tool" like a compass, a flashlight or a magnifying glass. This way you'll save a lot of disk space. You'll save network consumption too, not only for the first download but for every update too.
It doesn't require network access, the permission to write on your flash memory or the permission to read your contacts.
Suggestions, like new features to implement, new tools etc. are welcome. If you want to contribute a translation, please let us know by sending us an email ;)
If you find a bug, please contact us using the "Report a bug" main menu function.
Note: if you write a comment on the Android Market without sending us an email, it's difficult for us to fix the problem, because usually we need some information (such as smartphone type and version, a way to replicate the problem, etc.)

Note:
- Depending on the hardware capabilities of your smartphone, some tools may not be present
- The permission to use the camera is required in order to turn on the camera flash LED. Some smartphones (for instance the Google Nexus S) don't light the flash LED if the camera is not running. If you check the most popular flashlight apps, you'll find out that they all require this permission. Android Army Knife doesn't shot any photos, doesn't save multimedia info onto the flash card and doesn't send anything on the internet: it doesn't require the network permission at all.
- This app was first released on may 2011 with the name "Swiss Army Knife". Because of a copyright infringement it recently changed the name to Army Knife for Android.

What would make it even better is if magnifying glass app had a record button function! Like how I can zoom in! The camera app that comes with my phone doesn't have a zoom option. Bummer... Going to search out a camera app with zoom in the meantime but this app is still FANTASTIC!

Keep getting the popup that says that there's a submenu, but where is it? I know you had to change it from the old version, but I really did prefer the little red knife. And how to turn of keyboard vibration on calculator. this is the only app that does it on my phone.

Some one complained it was to hard to move the decimal point for him on the cubic in to metric.the answer is 3 spaces. Liter to cc. Don't use meter cubed for engines, please. Think 5.0 liter.

At first I thought what a great tool! But then I ran into problems others have had. It reminds me often to calibrate, but there's no calibration tool, help file, or anything else to explain how you're supposed to do that. The compass is WAY off! Do not use it for anything important! It's random so you can't adjust for it. I've shown the sun rising in the south and setting in the east. If they fix these issues, this could be a 5 star app!

Even I talk a lot so the headlong says it all lol

Apart from the ruler which is utter rubbish the rest of the tools are okay. With a very good magnifier.Or in a ad free package. Could do with adding a decibel metre, GPS speed metre and heart rate monitor.

Z70%
by Z####:

I love it. Try any of the top rated magnifier apps and the app in this kit will blow it away. All of the other tools are above average. The magnifier is my favorite, it will change your world

I've used this a lot. I recently factory reset my phone and after reinstalling this app, my battery started disappearing like crazy :( It's too bad cuz it's got a lot of useful stuff in one small place.

Z70%
by Z####:

I like this app, but it seems to have some kind of custom behavior when the "back"button is touched, because the s7 uses a long press on back as the menu button, and the app recognizes it as "back" immediately and repeatedly, so I can't get to the menu to calibrate, etc... hence loss of one star.

This is a welcome change from apps that pester the user with adverts, notifications and attempts at spying. It has multiple functions, but takes up little storage space. Well done!

I use a few tools daily and the others are occasionally helpful. but the flashlight's irritating. It turns right off when 1st turned on. It says it's on but no light, so you have to touch it 3 times to get it to work. Irritating& Way too many steps to especially when you can't see! 1st find the app, pick flashlight, turn on, then off, & on again. I'd give 4* if the bug was fixed & 5* if it had an option to pick a "favorite" tool to auto-open when you touch the app & other icons could be in a margin.

Several sensor inputs don't appear to work on the Nexus 7 with this app, breaking the compass and level apps. Also the unit conversion does not provide a keyboard so it is useless as well

Z70%
by Z####:

No compass, everything is there and working well except for the compass

Z70%
by Z####:

Overall I love this set of apps and use it daily. However, I've run into a problem: On my new phone I can't set any of the app options. Please add an Options button to each. Details: On my old Samsung S5, a long press on the Recent Apps button brought up an app's Options menu, but on my new Samsung Note 5 a long press on the Recent Apps button splits the screen.

Z70%
by Z####:

Useful app. All in one toolkit. But there is a problem with menu. in New phones generally there is no menu button. And the app itself does not have action menu. So I cannot open options. It is annoying

Z70%
by Z####:

I used to use this app with my s3 and it was great but now I have an s5 and there is no way to calibrate any part of the app because there is no settings button on the phone or the app. It would be great if they fixed it by putting a settings button on the main screen of the app.

I had it before and it had some glitches and tried another one. Mistake was trying a different Swiss app. It pops ads every time you launch. No fun when you actually need the flashlight. Once I reinstalled this one it works perfectly. Sorry I left the first time.

gr8 app! This app has been super since i started using it several versions ago a few years ago! Solid, stable app! Not invasive on permissions, unlike 95% of Android apps! Thanks for a gud quality app. And free! How u do it, i don't know! But '¡¡muchos gracias!!' from Panama!

I use this tool so often for so many things. I work in a grocery store, and once a customer asked me if I had a ruler... YES! On my phone! LOL!! This is such a useful app, I recommend it to everyone!

Z70%
by Z####:

I love the features on this app. However, I have no menu buttons at the bottom of my home screen... I can't calibrate anything and I can't email you guys with my issues. Using Note 4 running Android 5.1.1

Z70%
by Z####:

The flashlight widget is flaky on my Nexus 5x. It turns on for a second and then turns itself off even though the green indicator is displayed. I had to install a different flashlight widget.

Z70%

Really like what the app is trying to do. Unfortunarely all the tools that require valibration are useless. There is no menu button to access settings to calibrate the tools on Samsung S7 and Note 7.

H70%
by H####:

I feel like an idiot because I'm usually pretty good with computers and figuring stuff out but....where are the settings and menus to calibrate and such? Other than that this seems like an amazing group of tools here...I'm on android 4.4.2 and on an LG g3

Z70%

Like app but was able to take photos on magnifier but has now different buttons. Take or play button doesn't work. Have uninstalled and re installed but still no good.

Z70%
by Z####:

Am I missing something or there is no software menu button? On my Note 2 everything worked fine, but on Note 5 there is no hardware menu button. Without calibration some of the tools are useless.

Pros: o Convenient in that "everything" is in one place. This applies both to finding the app online (and installing it), as well as to finding it on your phone (and opening it). o Most apps are at least adequate if not better; the compass is especially nice. o No ads; no unnecessary permissions. Cons: o Doesn't do most things particularly well. In particular ... there are much nicer calculator, level, timer, and clock apps. Notes: o I'm on the fence about giving a four star rating. (3.5 would be just right.) o I've since uninstalled this app and have installed a bunch of "individual" apps in it's place, including three levels and (roughly) six flashlights.

The Good: Several useful tools in one convenient app. The magnifying glass alone is worth the install. The Bad: Compass doesn't seem to work but that may be a usage issue on my part. Suggestions: Add an alarm clock with multiple optionally titled alarms and a world clock so I can replace the built in app on my phone entirely. Add a daylight clock just to make it truly excellent. Thanks: For a very useful app.

I was really impressed. Until I started playing with the compass. With a recently calibrated Samsung Galaxy S5 and a clear view of the North Star the compass pointed to true North (+/-3degrees). But turn the phone so that the top of the phone faces South and the compass is off by 35 or more degrees. I don't understand this and it calls into question the reliability of this app.

Z70%
by Z####:

I reality like this app. It's got virtually everything you need on a semi regular basis. I love that it doesn't require a lot of intrusive access or space. The only thing I can't find (bringing it from five to four stars) is the calibrator for the various tools. It was on the version for my HTC m8 but I can't find it on the HTC 10 version.

Works great... Even got the camera orientation correct on the Nexus 5X which alot of apps still get wrong. Thanks!

Only problem I have is with the compass (unable to get it to work correctly for some reason). I'm guessing the problem may be: the result of the operator. THANKS FOR THIS TOOL KIT.

Absolutely brilliant!! This is the most used app on my phone. Everything you need in one place. It really is an electronic Swiss Army Knife.

I used to have Swiss Army Knife on my Android phones, got this one and couldn t find it. Finally had enough time to hunt it down {I don t normally do that}, thank you for the name change and keeping the app around.

Great app but on my new phone i have no options button so i cant calibrate the tools. Phone is an lg leon using android 5.0.1.

I loved this" the Droid, and the Droid RAZR MAXX, but this Samsung Galaxy Note 4 doesn't have an options button on the bezel. Even Google has moved to having a options button in their apps.

C70%

most applications that come with a flashlight are at best semi productive. However, there are very useful apps available. My suggestion to anyone in need of a useful flashlight. Try 360 or AIO Toolbox. Keep swiss and use them instead.

C70%

I use the unit converter and the flashlight the most. I haven't needed the others much, but the magnifier is fun to use. (And, as the Boy Scouts say, be prepared.)
