Rotation Locker for Android
Works well for what it does: you run the app and chose a mode to override your device's built-in screen orientation/rotation setting to switch among Auto-Rotate, Forced-Portrait, and Forced-Landscape. I say "forced" because it forces apps to landscape or portrait even if they wouldn't normally (regardless of native setting) rotate to that orientation. Setting this to Auto-Rotate changes the appearance of the native setting to show Auto-Rotate, and setting it to either of the other modes changes the native setting to show Portrait (even if it's really landscape). While this app is in (forced)-portrait or (forced-)landscape, changing the native setting itself directly has no effect unfortunately. Lacks a Forced-Auto-Rotate mode which would force all (or some) apps to auto-rotate even if they won't normally do that. It would be nice if there were a notification to show that this app is forcing a particular mode, and it would be nice if the the mode could be changed via this persistent notification. Also lacks any per-app setting capabilities. Has a simple Tasker plugin for automation of its 3 basic modes.
great little app to force other apps to open up in a specific view! after moving to a device running Nougat, Xposed was no longer an option to force an app that always opened up in landscape to open up in portrait and I thought I was screwed having to use this app in this awkward landscape view until I came upon Rotation Locker! with Tasker integration I can force the display to stay in portrait or landscape mode depending on what app has the awkward view.
HTC One M7 with Sense 5.5 and it's running well in persistent mode. I just disallowed the notifications in the apps part of the phone settings and I'm thrilled to have landscape for the home screen now! Thanks!
If this had an option to set the service at boot then I'd give it 5 stars. That's the only shortfall of this app. It's a must have for people who want control of their device or those with non-traditional set ups that can't simply be rotated. edit-- reduced it to three stars. While it works if it won't autoload at boot then it's pointless.
My nexus tends to heat up under one side when I'm using it, so I hold it in my left and keep the hot side uncovered. However, this is "upside down" to most apps, leaving me holding an uncomfortable slab of heat. This has enabled me to comfortably hold my tablet while gaming. Thanks, awesome developer!
This fixes the home screen on my Nexus 4 which, in native form, stay in portrait mode no matter what I want to do. Frustrating, because my Samsung Galaxy S# auto-rotates and it is not even native Android. I installed this, opened it, and long-selected Auto mode (select and hold to persist). Presto! All problems solved. Thank you, developer! Exactly what I needed.
Makes my note 4 like a mini tablet. I just would like one feature which is the option to have the persistent mode for auto rotation run at phone startup so I don't have to manually do it every time I restart my phone. Otherwise great app.
Has only auto, portrait, landscape with no sensor within the latter two and no reverse orientation at all. No control of sensor thresholds either. Many other free apps do more.
The only app I found in the market that doesn't use a background service all the time, low resource cost, definitely the best choice. But could you make the UI more 4.X style? It's a little disappointed to have a everyday app with 2.X style on a 4.X device. But that's OK, I won't be looking at it all the time anyway.
Been using this for years without a problem! Anyone who gives this a low rating is obviously not smart enough to read! Hey morons, before you give this a low rating. ..try writing a better Rotation Locker App!
The only issue is that it can't do a complete 180° (upside-down) rotation. Otherwise, wonderful little app.
It's Purple, Stuff the reviews, I must try it because it's Purple. Not to lazy to edit the settings when the device fails to show certain settings. Too lazy to find and test all the PDF rotating programs/apps etc, use this then take a screen shot, that should still be legal right? lol... And it seems to work perfectly. Try it & see.
Works great. My Samsung Tab 3 would rotate on either button set, very annoying! No Permissions, Yay!!!
Trims some of the items from the screen when in persistent mode. Not to bad as I still use it
(also save config after app closes) This app got it right. Preserves some functionality of the lock rotation buttons.
Like the simple interface. And it's doing what it is supposed to do. One negative thingy: it shows a blank icon in the notification area. Improvement would be to display a real icon.
Worked unless you want to lock in 180 degrees (reverse portrait), just gets error "Error: unknown orientation".
I like this app a lot but have some annoying bugs which prevents me from leaving it running in the background. Using a Xperia Z3c running 4.4.4 the camera is unusable as it doesn't auto rotate and remains locked in portrait mode. I run this when using in car as a navigation and music playing device and for this it works a peach. Android should be designed with landscape homescreen in mind. Perhaps the tablet and phone software ought to merge...
Works better and simpler than Ultimate Rotation Control when used with Tasker. URC is great but it is so complex that it ends up breaking certain rotation views that Rotation Locker has no problems with (even with URC's per-app settings). Using Netflix using the app switcher while on URC would just not work as natively as possible, but works just perfectly on Rotation Locker. And there's no need for a per-app setting!
I frequently leave my phone plugged in and on its side (landscape mode) using the case's kickstand with BlinkFeed displayed. Running this app in Persistent Auto mode provides a flawless solution for HTC Sense homescreens in landscape mode while also auto-rotating back to portrait mode... simply tap the widget, then long-press Auto. Worked flawlessly on my HTC One (M8) and on my current HTC 10 running Android 6.0.1. Solid 5 stars.
Just simply does not work. Apps jump between landscape and portrait back and forth. Out of control.
Locks up camera on portrait on my HTC one m8. Now messes up my quick menu and apps folder in landscape, but all rotate apps doing that now since att&t update.
I love how this app makes my dialer and lock screen rotate in forced auto rotate mode! However, the persistent service does not restart if the phone is restarted. This should be automatic. Since it's not, it's only really marginally persistent. Phone: Galaxy S5 rooted stock ROM, with Apex Launcher.
Some apps force a change in orientation. Android x86 portrait mode is sideways on a PC monitor, which is terrible. This app allows you to change it back and even prevent it from changing in the first place.
I love being able to force stubborn apps lika Bonza into landscape mode on my tablet. Needs per app settings for apps like xmodgames which do not display in a usable way in landscape mode. Thanks for the great utility!
On my Samsung Galaxy S5, rooted but stock ROM, 4.4.2, on the home screen, I lose a quarter (4 out of 16) of my icons...a fix would be great

It's not a background app so it doesn't eat ram. Exactly what I've been looking for.
No problems, works as advertised on VZ Moto X 1st gen. Thanks for a quality app without special permissions.
Rotates home screen on ZTE n9521, Lollipop 5.1 phone but does not display icon tags at all and Google search bar is not displayed properly. This issue is present on several other apps like this one. In addition turns screen upside down
This is really dumb that a 3rd party app is needed but thanks
Can I have the landscape mode in the other direction? Partly because the bottom portion of my nexus 4 doesn't work.
This is such a fantastic app 4 me & IMHO, 4 Anyone else that prefers a 'Wide' screen view!?! ★My 7" tablet is more comfortable 4 me 2 hold in 'Landscape position!?!' ★But many apps are made 2B viewed in Portrait mode & it was very annoying 2B turning my tablet back & forth!?! ★Rotation Locker came 2 my rescue 1 day & its made my viewing much more pleasurable, in the days gone by!?! ★Yessirie, I highly recommend it to everyone who desires some peace of mind & less strained wrist(s)!?! ★When restarting my tablet, 'Rotation Locker' is the 1st App I start/ enable!?! ★Thank you very much♡♥♡!?! ☆★☆I STILL♥♡♥THIS APP!?! ☆
The yeahs have it for my 4.3 android phone. This can be accessed from my home screen or apps table to stabilize my screen into either view. This controlled viewing versatility completes movie menu items on youtube or whatever else whenever else. I can only think of one program view useful for a rotator setting it into default screen: a personal picture into wallpaper or lockscreen-saver. But I can do without all the non-essential megabyte memory-bloat.
Finally the home screen rotates, and generally it seems the app does a better job than the original Sony firmware.
I'm using Android-x86, and I had a few problems with some applications that would force portrait. I no longer have that issue thanks to you. 5/5

The only issue I have is that locking the orientation in landscape switches the screen one way and there is no way to flip it. It would be nice if you could choose which way to orient the screen.
It works all right. I hope it can do a little more: allow to landscpe the other way round (someone may call this upside down). This is why I gave it 4 stars.

Works exactly as advertised, takes next to no space, doesn't run anything futile in the background. Even works on apps that do not natively support the chosen orientation (my main reason for downloading the app). Also works fantastic for automatic rotation control for in-car use in combination with e.g. Tasker.
