About Textspansion

Access a database of your commonly typed phrases with Android’s first “text expansion” app!

Whether you’re browsing the web or writing an email, you can access Textspansion by long-pressing your device’s search button to access your database. Clicking on the desired phrase will immediately copy it into your device’s clipboard and send you back to what you were working on. From there you can paste it where you like! Store anything you like into the app that you want to be accessible!

Future features:
- Encrypting the exported xml file
- Support for Ice Cream Sandwich
- Gesture recognition to open the app
- Opens a dialog on top of the app you were on previously

What's up with the name? Textspansion is a portmanteau of "text" and "expansion". It was originally inspired by TextExpander (by Smile Software, LLC.). Due to OS restrictions, we can't have our app actively detect keyboard input. The "short name" was inspired to be the text snippet that the app recognizes to expand.

Very useful

Use daily on my Samsung Note 4 and now on galaxy tab S2 9.7. Always works and easy to use. Like another reviewer, I exported data list from my phone to my tablet via email and data automatically loaded; excellent undocumented feature. On galaxy tab S2 9.7 no menu 3 dots is available but holding the lit back icon button opens the menu and settings.

OK, it's not a true text expander, nor a text shortcuts handler. It's kind of a clipboard filler, but it works fine. I use it as the alternative to the PalmOS Palm Shortcuts (native app) and ShortCut5 (3rd party app), none of which are yet available in Android. Placed in the Notifications Drawer, it's always at reach and its functionality doesn't depend on app compatibility. Kudos! - Samsung Galaxy Core 2

This app hasn't worked right since upgrading to a Galaxy S7. I no longer have any access to the settings menu, so I can't make the app accessible from the menu bar. This has pretty much crippled the app for me.

It's really really good. I just wish there was a way for me to like login and save my data somewhere so that even after I accidentally uninstall the app or my phone undergoes factor reset settings.

Use almost daily on my Samsung Note 3 and now installed on galaxy tab S2 9.7. Always works and easy to use. I have this on Kit Kat, works good, phone has marshmellow and it's not fuly functional.

Really hard to learn how to import backup file, other than that the app it self is brilliant

X70%

The only such app available which lets you frequently used text to copy in 2 clicks. It's lite and saves a lot of time, needs limited permission

The biggest weakness of this app is the inability to carry the database across devices, or restore a database after restoring the phone. There is an option to export, but where is the option to import what we've exported? I've had to build my snippet list at least a dozen times!

E70%
by E####:

It's a copy paste function only. Not actually expanding.

VERY quick and efficient

LOVE Textspansion. Recently I got a new phone and thought I was going to have to re-enter all my snippets. I was pleased to see I could export - but WHERE oh WHERE was import. I exported to email, and when I opened the email on my phone and clicked the XML file my phone gave me the option to import into Textspansion. So while it does not appear to be documents, it's fast, simple, and easy. For those with no search button, the access icon will also appear in the drop-menu which should be available from anywhere. I've also tried the ones that use the keyboard with little success. On the phone, this is the best I've found. Kudos.

Or menu button or any other button. I've created a shortcut in my pie control, but there isn't much else I can do... Waiting for update.

Thank you so much! I don't know what you did, but this update works now! I'm extremely happy that you addressed my issue & fixed it, in a reasonable amount of time, very cool! I look forward to checking out the new features

seems like it would be great. unfortunately i have one of the best android phones in 2011 (samsung gs2) and samsung's don't have a search button. long pressing menu just brings up normal search shortcut.

S70%
by S####:

Adds efficiency and functionality to android. With cm7 i've set it to long press of menu since swiftkey allows a gesture for hiding the keyboard

J70%

Idea of the app is good but, I have a genius button. The app can only trigger using a search button. Uninstalled.

V70%
by V####:

Like the idea...but no search button on my phone

T70%
by T####:

Really useful and timesaving application.

C70%
by C####:

Great easy app that helps you with all your pasting needs!

N70%
by N####:

Ability to create timestamps is good, but the fact that you still have to copy and paste makes this a bit painful to use. Also needs a token to represent current clipboard contents.

N70%
by N####:

great thought. I use TextExpander on my Mac daily. Problem is there's not that many new Android phones with a search button anymore, can that be remapped somehow?

N70%
by N####:

I have been looking for a date/time stamp app for a while and this meets my needs perfectly!

N70%
by N####:

I did not go past the end user license agreement. It states they are not responsible for lost or stolen passwords, identities, credit cards, etc. Um no, how about a little assurance you will try to prevent this!

N70%
by N####:

This doesn't turn abbreviations into text as you type. And if you don't have a search button forget it.

N70%
by N####:

Not well integrated

N70%
by N####:

It doesn't actually expand your phrases. You copy / paste it. I might as well write it out then without needing the app...

N70%
by N####:

My device (Samsung Galaxy S5) not only doesn't have a search button but it also doesn't have a menu button. Without a physical menu button (usually three vertical dots on software that realizes some devices don't have a physical menu button) I can't actually open the menu to turn on the notification bar icon so I can actually use the app. It's great for storage and quick(er) copy/pasting of more complex emotes like a shrug or a table flip but its utility is sorely limited in most cases due to the OS limitations and the fact that the app is, currently, not optimized to take advantage of newer devices not having search or menu buttons. If they'd fix these glaring errors and maybe research global text replacement on Android a bit more then maybe it could become super useful.

O70%

Sounds very useful, however there's no search button on my phones (SonyEricsson Xperia Ray, Samsung Galaxy S3).

H70%
by H####:

This is NOT a real Text Expander. It's a stored clipboard cut and paste utility. A true expander will, as an example, when you type "TY"... expand it automatically to "Thank You."

Y70%
by Y####:

Having to constantly copy and paste gets old, immediate expansion of shortcuts would be fantastic.

Y70%
by Y####:

exactly what i was looking for. what i do is i long press the home button so i can launch the app. saves a lot of time typing often used texts. more power to you guys!
